Yep, sales people at the door.
At least with on-line spam I can detect it and avoid it but without a CCTV monitor outside my door I don't know who's out there. Luckily I live in an area where I don't really have to worry about knife wielding crazy people and also thankfully I don't get a lot of unexpected visitors. But when the same SPECTRUM cable/phone/inet salesman showed up at my door for the second time in as many weeks, I had reached the end of my diplomatic leash. I don't remember what I said but I do remember not swearing and yet having a boatload of fun unloading on him. As I opened the door he introduced himself with his practiced patter and then I saw red. The most enjoyable part was seeing him back away from the door about one second after I began my tirade. I saw on his face this most satisfying look of shock and perhaps fear preceeding his stuttering appology and obvious desire to turn and run. He hasn't been back.
Is a fisheye door peephole an option? Old school, but they work. Only need a drill and some tape to install.
When I lived in the city of Savannah, I had a sign on my door:
I work nights.I sleep days.
I am 6'2" and 240lbs with
a very bad attitude.
Wake me up and we will
both be unhappy.
Not even my friends would come over before 1600. Now that I live in the woods, I just keep the gate locked.
Well, no, actually. To be truthful I should have said "without a CCTV monitor outside my door I can't see who's out there without tipping my hand that I am home." My door is metal but has much of the upper half of it covered with a 9-pane window (yeah, not a great choice for a front door but I only rent here
). I keep a cloth over it held in place by magnets to keep the bright sun out of my dark office/livingroom (I am a mushroom and thrive best in the dark), and to keep casual visitors to the other apartment walking up and down the driveway from peeking in my front door at night.
I ordered a used camera from Ebay. The seller wrapped the camera in newspaper and then put the camera in a box. The seller should have atleast used bubble wrap or styrofoam. I spent $8 on shipping too. Hopefully the camera works.
a bit confused by titles
sp the British Empire never had an "emperor"?
Napoleon was an emperor at some point, but other than France dunno who he was emperor of , the seven seas?
sp. if you a king or queen, every thing is royal, like royal navy, royal air force etc
if you an emperor, you have an imperial navy? etc
is a dictator the same as an emperor?
Yes and no - the British ruler ws King/Queen, but Victoria was given the title "Empress of India" part way through her reign and I assume that was inherited by the Edwards and Georges up to independence.
Pretty much the whole of Europe, at one point or another, with various relatives as local rulers.
Probably, but that would be up to history, tradition, and convention - for example Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, but not Royal Army in the UK.
No, a dictator might take the title of emperor (Napoleon, Julius Caesar and Augustus) but most dictators don't (and don't call themselves dictators - though the Greek autocrats went in for calling themsleves Tyrants it didn't have the same meaning it does now)
Was Adolf considered a dictator when he was alive? I think he committed suicide, right?
Mostly they called themselves Leader Fuhrer means Leader as does Duce (Mussonlini) and Vozhd (Stalin). Franco apparently called himself El Caudillo de España (the Chieftain of Spain). Over in China you have the Chairman, as in Chairman Mao.
Why is it when I want to render a scene tonight for the PC contest that ends tonight, the smart content decides not to work properly? Edit; why?
thank yoos
I am trying to do a render of Caryn but the onesie is not acting like it is installed even though it is. DIM says it is and so does Smart Content but DS will not load it.
Russia had Tsars but some of the female Tsars were were called Empress. Especially Elizabeth and Catherine II (The Great).
I too have "No Soliciting" posted at my door. My neighborhood hates solicitors, so we have posted a similar sign at the entrance to the community.
In my state, with such signage, if you ask them to leave and they don't do so promptly, you can have them arrested and press charges for trespassing. Make no mistake, a trespassing charge may be a misdemeanor but can be pretty serious and can make some other bad stuff to happen to the sales person. Cameras are a must if you ever end up in a court of law and need to prove that you asked the person to leave. Make sure the camera footage shows you pointing to the street or exit of your community. Big movements, make sure there's no doubt that you told the person to leave.
A friend of mine used to just let his big dog answer the door. Usually the dog would hear anybody coming up the walk, but even if the dog were preoccupied with something, a knock, doorbell, or a simple, "Who's at the door?" would set that dog off.
The dog was big, but sounded much bigger; much like a small bear. Deep bark, very frightening. Would bark and howl and scratch the screen door. People would leave because they were convinced that a big drooling and hungry banshee was going to bust through that screen and eat them from the feet up, slowly and painfully.
If anybody does get through to me and try soliciting, I first ask for a business card, then I just firmly tell them to leave or half the neighborhood will call the police. If they don't leave, I look up the contact information for the business on the card, and I call their national office and complain. I also tell the national number that the person willingly violated State law by ignoring a properly posted No Soliciting sign at the entrance to my community, as well as the one on my front door. If you call the number on the card, you never know, the doorbell ringer might answer his personal phone, and you won't get anywhere with that. Call the regional or national number and tell them instead. Be polite, but be firm. Get a couple of neighbors to call and complain too. The only thing companies hate more than no sales is people en mass complaining because they feel they've been harassed and inconvenienced.
Oligarchies
But Russians had Tsars before the Dictators took over
So if your last name is Tater and you first name is Richard... does that make you a Dick Tater?
I dunno... the complexity of the human nameage system is flabbergasting.
Personally, I always thought it sounded more like a type of funny shaped potato, or some sort persistent warts or structural anomalies... but whatever.
I didn't think Julius Caesar was ever actually emperor, wasn't he stabbed several times to prevent that.
Yes, I wasn't usre but that does sound right. That was why I added Augustus, just to hedge my bets a bit.
It's usually a pretty effective solution.
Ah, the "good old days".
The Klingons made it a military tradition.
if is tater salad, name is ron white.
taters preshusss, mash em puttem in a stew
Harbor Freight has a tiny little security camera set with two cameras and a monitor that often goes on sale for less than $50.00. I had one before I got my 8-camera recording/cloud setup, it was pretty good. And tiny.
A tsar same ss an emperor!
tsarina
Царь = Tsar/Czar = Caesar = king = monarch
Non-complaint: My woodchuck is back. I think he lives under the equipment & grain storage building belonging to the farmer next door. Debating whether to tell the farmer or not. He may not think it is as cute.
Complaint: Mid-afternoon snack, sardines on crackers. I love sardines that come packed in mustard sauce. However, I am fussy. I can't stand to eat the backbone and spinal chord so I have to disect the body and pull them out. However, today in the process of disection of one of them I discovered an inch long rolled up piece of aluminum foil making its way through the fish's gut. Ewwwww.... The state of our ocean.
I brought a turkey sandwich from home today when I went to work. After I clocked out I left the store to go to the food court. Then it occurred to me I forgot to toast my turkey sandwich. I went back to the store but the door was locked. So when I went back to the front of the store I told a coworker that I had a question about a turkey sandwich. He asked if I wanted one. I said yeah as in if you are offering one? He went back to the GM and came out and asked for free. I said Yeah as in I got a turkey sandwich but if you want to give me another for free that is fine. The coworker went back to the GM and came out and asked for the GM why should I get a free turkey sandwich. Then I asked if I could use the toaster to toast my turkey sandwich. I was told it was fine. I went back around and still found the door locked so I rang the door bell. The GM did not realize that the door was locked until she opened the door for me. I was allowed into the store so I can toast my turkey sandwich.
While I was there I refilled my lemonade.
Now for a complaint: why are cheese curls so messy? That is a generic version of Cheetos which also are so messy when eaten. Now my finger tips are orange.

Oh no, they've added three of my wishlisted items to the Temp PC. I don't really want to get them, because they're just textures, and I don't have the mesh.
Complaint: I just know that if I don't get the textures, then the outfits themselves will be on sale tomorrow. If I do get the textures, the outfits won't be.
