No clue as to when -- but it is obviously close as products are in development that won't release (fairly certain of that - would you buy something that only works in a beta release? I won't).
In any case, 4.10 isn't going to see any further changes, so it is time to grab it just in case . . .
A new Beta released just today (June 3rd) indicates there are still a few bugs to iron out before the next general release: 4.11.0.382
I can't just not download the 4.11 when it comes and keep on using 4.10? oh ... to have a backup just in case crash city or something.
Bingo! You don't have to download the current release - but if you ned to rebuild your system and you don't have your own backup copy of the installers . . .
Yes - but the rapid response indicates someone is serious about making this the current release soon. After all, in addition to strand based/dForce hair 4.11 has the version of Iray required for the 20 series nVidia cards.
That has been part of the beta for months though...
Correct. But only the beta, not the general release. And newbs are wondering why . . .
I don't do beta's. SO I'll just wait and see what happens. In the mean time I have the time I'll just download all the files in that handy list for safe keeping "just in case"... Usually it's not an issue for me, maybe a hiccup or something but nothing detrimental and as long as this darned 4.11 has taken to go GOLD I would hope that MOST of the bugs have been squashed internally. I mean really. in 4 months it will be 2 whole years since a solid new release! YIKES!
Also, for the main app do a search for Daz Studio 4.x Pro only...
Can you just download 4.10 zip and install it manually? That’s how I did it I didn’t go through the DIM to install 4.10 I did it manually. Or will this not work in the event there are Issues with 4.11 I have everything backed up but I was just wondering if you could just do a manual install of the 4.10 zip
Manual install isn't ssupported for the betas, although it is possible for the release builds it is strongly not encouraged as it is very easy to create issues (for which daz could not provide support). That doesn't mean you can't do it, but please don't encourage others to try it.
Oh okay understood
Also, just make sure you have the basic support plugins for that particular version... like GoZ, Dynamic Cloth and others. I got all that done yesterday and have zipped all of them into one zip and uploaded it to my DropBox for safe keeping...
This is about GoZ
I am keeping DS 4.10 for various reasons, and not going to 4.11 But my GoZ seems to have updated to 4.11 and is now grayed out in DIM in 4.10 installed file list. Didn't know that as I'd not used it for quite some time. But reading here and other places, this is what happens when DS updates... the plugins fall apart. Is this because they assume you 'want' to upgrade to the next version?
So 'it's not there' anymore, right? Odd that as it still showed on my plugins list in DS 4.10 when I wanted to create a morph and was able to export a base figure from DS 4.10 yesterday to ZBrush. But I could not export back to DS 4.10 and wondered why. So searched and arrived here! In the meantime, I did click on the grayed out item in DIM and it 'disappeared'... and now it no longer shows in the plugins list in DS 4.10. And under File, there is no longer an option to Send To ZBrush. So guess I have to try and do something related to what follows? If there is another thread, please direct me.
I am a Carrara user, but GoZ for Carrara doesn't 'do' morphs, it just does stuff to a character's basic body. Nevermind all that... what I did per namffuak was to go to my archived zip files and dsx files which I keep after download on an external drive. Oh yay... I have the 4.10 GoZ for DS and want to get it back into my DS 4.10. If I knew where those files in the zip used to live, I would just manually put them there. I had to to that with LAMH a while back. But I don't.
So can I do this and where do they go? The ZBrush ones should be OK where they are in my ZBrush files, yes? Errrr maybe no. I can't find them now. DIM must have uninstalled them as I do have ZBrush in my DIM as an app.
Any help appreciated! Sorry to be thick about this.... should really have predicted that GoZ would go t*ts up when DS versions changed.
Cheers,
Silene
ETA: Here is what is listed in the Plugins from the Help drop down Plugin section on the menu in DS. But in the actual file folder, whilst this dll file is there, there is no folder for the plugin. I am thinking that like LAMH, there should be a folder for GoZ ? Can I make one manually?
Filename : E:/3D/DAZ 3D/DAZStudio4 Public Build/plugins/dzgoz.dll
Name : GoZ
Author : DAZ 3D, Inc
Version : 1.7.0.123
That should be the right version - the final digits match, assuming you are using 4.10.0.123 - if not then you updated GoZ and not DS to the latest non-beta build. The beta and release build plug-ins from Daz are separate installs, though it's true in the case of GoZ that installing one version unisntalls the other (also true of the Photoshop bridge, as I recall - and of PostgreSQL, though in that case there haven't been any changes anyway)..
Thanks, Richard,
The one that was grayed out in DIM was the 4.11 beta, so it must have updated itself and I never noticed. But I was never prompted to update to 4.11 beta for DS. Odd, because I have 4.10 pro public build as I kept 4.8 as well for safety and run them side by side. Both are in my DIM applications folder, but all content goes to one place.
I did this because I upgraded to 4.10 and it wrecked my Carrara Content, so I rolled back to 4.8 which I had luckily kept... but for some reason could not find the GoZ files and no back-downloading was available per DAZ desk. So I had to have 4.10 just to use GoZ.
I just wish they would give people a chance. I don't know how to get the ones I had saved in my downloads back into their proper places, though. If I had thought about it I would have taken a screenshot of the various file folders. If I sort this I will.
Funny enough, if you look at the DS homepage... where it says GET DAZ.... it's still offering 4.10. So it's not happening yet. Hmmmm.
Any idea of what folders to put GoZ back into???
The beta is 4.11, and the Daz plug-ins match. The release, and plug-ins, are 4.10.0.123. Neither will auto-update.
That info I posted was from the plugin in the drop down menu. It let me export, but I could not import back from GoZ to DS. So came searching. Looked in DIM and saw the grayed out 4.11 not 4.10. Honest. I looked at it several times scratching my head. Especially at it being grayed out and no other GoZ in my Installed list except Carrara's which was fine.
Wished I'd screen-grabbed that for you. So when I clicked on that in DIM, it uninstalled even though it was grayed out. I meant to right-click and left-clicked instead. When I went back into DS, the plugin in the drop down was gone and there was no more GoZ option in the File dropdown. |Maybe there was just one left-over file for 4.10 that kept it alive in the pilugin menu? I haven't a clue. All I know is that GoZ for DS is gone from my installation completely.
So now that I did manage to save the 4.10 version in my downloaded files... how to I get them back into DS in the correct places or is that not possible manually? Maybe I need to re-download 4.10 again to get it? That would not be a happy experience. With my luck, I'd screw it all up.
What are my options, do you know?
Silene
Which versions are you currentl;y using, for release and for beta? I'm getting a little confused. And which installers do you have downloaded (if you wan to check DIM do so while working offline, otherwise it will just show the installed version - if any - and the up-to-date download)?
I am confused, too.
I had 4.8, back in 2017 but upgraded to 4.10. Then we found that 4.10 did not play nice by buggering up the content view in Carrara.
I unloaded 4.10 and reinstalled 4.8 because I had saved it to my external hard drive... lucky me. But I did not save any plugins (free included ones). Dumb me.
I then when to install the GoZ from the DAZ product list/store for my account and it was no longer there (as 4.8 was no longer there as well).
I contacted the DAZ desk and those messages are now gone from my account inbox (unless I am looking in the wrong place), so I am trying to remember.
I was told if I wanted to keep 4.8 for its supposed better compatibility with Carrara, that I could run 4.10 Pro Public Build along side it by installing it as well. That was the only way to get GoZ and there was no legacy GoZ 4.8 available to me. Plugins that I had paid for were available from my product library.
So I do not want to give up 4.8. Its relationship with Carrara is sound.
I just want my GoZ for DS back so I can make morphs in ZBrush that I can save as a personal morph in DS. The beauty of that is once you have created a slider morph for a character, I can access it as such in Carrara! GoZ for Carrara does not do this... you can do things to a figure/object in ZBrush and export it back to Carrara, and it is changed, and you can save the item as a .car file, but I have not found a way to save it as a morph. That's OK... that was the really useful purpose of having GoZ for DS.
See my file list below: Any ideas? It must have to do with the Public Build thingy..... sorry to be confusing. I wonder if I have to download the 4.11 public build to be able to carry on having 4.8 and yet being able to have GoZ for DS?
I will stand by my statement that the grayed out version in my DIM installed content said 4.11... no doubt about it. That in spite of what my plugin menu said inside of DS 4.10. Once I clicked accidently and the grayed out disappeared from DIM installed, the plugin disappeared from DS menus in my 4.10 version. So something updated... maybe because it was a public build of 4.10 and they started 'stripping' things from it assuming I'd upgrade to the 4.11 public build?
So now I have all these files: They are as follows in a listed form.
Here are the files I have for GoZ 4.10 that I had saved in the downloads in a narrative as I cannot attach files in a message.
There are two files: The manifest store file and the zip file with the working files:
The store manifest file IM00016598-02_GoZforDAZStudio410Win64bitPublicBuild.dsx opened with Notepad and it says:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<ProductSupplement VERSION="0.1">
<ProductName VALUE="GoZ for DAZ Studio 4.10+ (Win 64-bit) Public Build +Beta+"/>
<ProductStoreIDX VALUE="16598-2"/>
<UserOrderId VALUE="removed for securty"/>
<UserOrderDate VALUE="2015-06-10T18:33:53Z"/>
<InstallerDate VALUE="2017-12-05T14:54:25Z"/>
<ProductFileGuid VALUE="2e31e6fb-0536-e2ed-c778-5b0e43a7d332"/>
<InstallTypes VALUE="Plugin"/>
<ProductTags VALUE="DAZStudio4_5,Plugin,Win64,PublicBuild"/>
</ProductSupplement>
The files in the zip are:
DAZ Studio_4.5_(64-Bit) with subfolders docs and plugins
Shared_(64-Bit) with subfolder PIxologic > GoZApps>DAZStudio64 and in there are GoZBrushToDAZStudio.exe and 3 others
Temp with initialize.dzime
Manifest.dsx
Supplement.dsx
Can you tell me what you mean by 'installers' ???

ETA: When I look at the current package in my Product Library for Daz Studio Pro BETA it does not give any version number. So if they are getting ready for 4.11 pro public build beta stuff... could they have removed the 4.10 version of GoZ as it would be part of the package, so maybe it grayed out and was substituted with the proposed one? If that is so, will the entire 4.10 pro public build disappear as well? That could explain it...maybe?
This is the package with included items on my page. There are no version numbers.
What's Included
WOW.... I don't believe this. I went offline and looked at my DIM as you said. In files READY TO INSTALL was the 4.10 version ready to install. So I installed it. And it showed up under INSTALLED, but grayed out. I guess when I clicked whichever version when online it just 'hid' in the ready to install area?
Then I looked in my DS 4.10 plugins after opening the programme and there it was again. With the numbers that I first posted that you said were 4.10. Also the GoZ option was under File dropdown menu. I exported a figure, changed something, but it would not come back into DS 4.10. So I am sort of back where I was, EXCEPT....
I went back into DIM this time online and there in the INSTALLED section was the 4.11 version as I had said, and grayed out. Yikes.... what is happening.
See attached screen shot. (At least I do not feel so insane now, just confused!) What does it mean. Will GoZ ever work properly in DS Public Build again? I will go away now and let you have a think on this and see if there is a solution. Thanks for all your kind help, Richard, it is much appreciated. You have saved me often in the past.
When you are OnLine, if the version you have downloaded is older than that on the servers, DIM won't know it is "out of date". When you are off-line it doesn't have access to the updated version and will use the one you have downloaded instead. It sounds as if you do have the 4.10.0.123 version of GoZ, and it does sound as if it is working as a plug-in. That just leaves the issue of communicating with ZBrush - have you tried resetting the path for DS in the ZBrush peferences?
That was it... it was not connected. How did that happen? It worked the time before and I have not changed any directories or anything. I didn't look at Preferences, was checking the shared apps files instead. I think ZBrush must only ask you at first setup, then if it falls off, it's not going to warn you there is no programme connected. Kind of cheeky for such an expensive programme not to set up a flag if there is no path back to the importing programme. It just did nothing.
Sorry, I was barking up the wrong tree... so I can hope that the version of DS I have will continue? Or will 4.10 pro public build beta be 'dissolved' when 4.11 comes out? I think I understood that if I want to have two versions one has to be the public beta thingy.
Thank you for your help... are there any other demons I need to know about ???
The version you have installed will not be updated automatically, and as long as you make a copy of the zips outside the downloads folder you can always reinstall if you grab an update by mistake.
