Solved ~~ Need Help with Furballs for Cupcake by Capsces Digital Ink

So, I picked up Furballs for Cupcake by Capsces Digital Ink back when RDNA was first purchased by Daz3D. I think I was using DS 4.8 at the time. As far as I can remember, all the Furball morphs for Cupcake worked when I first purchased the product because I vaguely remember going through all the morphs. My memory could be fuzzy, though, since I didn't actually render anything with them. A lot of that was shiny syndrome because I was picking up a lot of products back then.

Fast forward to today, I'm trying out a lot of my older products again to see what I need to do to update surfaces and maybe render more of the older cute things I picked up. Unfortunately, half the morphs don't seem to work in Furballs anymore. It's possible they didn't work in DS 4.8 either even though I thought they had.

So, anyone have these? Do you know if they work in DS 4.10? All the morphs are in .pz2 file formats so I thought they should have worked.. Some morphs appear to work while others do not, and some appear to only do part of the morph so I'm not sure what's going on. Any help from who have the product and know how they originally worked can you see if all the morphs work now and maybe there's something I'm missing or let me know they just don't work at all. I'd really like to use these for a project I have in mind, but I need the morphs for variety.

Also, if you have these and have Poser can you tell me if they might work in Poser 8? I might consider picking it up Poser Debut if there is a simple way of using it in Poser and then saving for use in DS afterward. Ideally, I'd like to get them to work in DS.

I hope someone can help. Thanks.

Knittingmommy, I bought the Furries Bundle for Melody and found I needed to load the Melody figure supplied in the bundle to make the morphs active. Perhaps it might be something similar with Cupcake? I don’t have her yet so I can’t test this for you.

They're working OK here in DS 4.10.0.123. Be sure that everything in installed (I've installed both DS and PS files, not sure if it's necessary, but just in case). Then go to Figures/CDI/Furballs in the Poser library and load the Furballs base figure and tail (picture 1). Then go to Pose/CDI and apply the morphs and textures from the Furballs, Faces and Furs folders (picture 2).

Yes, all those critters can be tricky to figure out because they have their own figure you must load instead of the original figure they're based on.

Took me a while to work this out, lol smiley

I’ve now added cupcake to my wish list because she’s so cute!

Well yes, I did have Cupcake loaded so that isn't the problem. I must have something not loaded correctly though. At least, I know it is supposed to work based on the screenshots @Taoz posted. Those give me hope I'm not going down a useless rabbit hole trying to figure this out. Actually, I know when I used them before in 4.8 it was before Daz Connect. Now, I install almost everything with Daz Connect.

It occurs to me seeing how Taoz installed the Furballs with both the DS and Poser files that DIM was probably used and that maybe the problem is in the fact I installed with Daz Connect instead of DIM. Installing with Daz Connect doesn't offer you the option of installing the Poser files. I think I assumed it would automatically put everything where it's supposed to be, but there might be something missing. I might try uninstalling the Connect version and installing through DIM and see if I see the same problem. It's possible installing with Connect misses something that's vital. Just because you can install that way doesn't always mean it works. It's possible the older Poser products are like scripts, they work better installed through DIM.

I'll update the thread whether or not that's the issue.

    Thanks everyone! :)

I've installed them with DIM yes. AFAIR it's correct that Connect does not install the Poser files.

Also note that if you install something with DIM (or at least something that included Poser files), you may run into problems if you later install it with Connect, even if you have uninstalled it again with DIM first. AFAIR there's no problem the other way round, but I'm not 100% sure.

I had a support case going because of that, but their final answer was this:

"We looked at this issue and The products install fine as they are meant to be installed
The user needs to pick one way to install DIM or Connect, by using both they will get conflicts
Connect uses a different directory structure than DIM and shouldn't be blended the way the customer is doing it.
Please have the customer use the cloud structure for connect only and if they choose to use DIM to use the standard directory structure for DIM installs.
The reason the customer is having this issue is because of the way they are installing and is not something we can fix."

This goes to prove one shouldn't try sorting out older products at 3 am! Before uninstalling anything, I came back fresh this morning and reread what @Taoz and @Mollytabby wrote. Turns out, I was trying to use the morphs on Cupcake herself since she was the required figure. @Mollytabby was correct in that I had to use the figure supplied in the bundle. There is a modified version inside the Furballs package which I thought I was using but apparently not. Once I loaded that figure instead of the original Cupcake everything works! So completely user error here!

At some point, I knew that because I had them all working before. It's just been so long since I've played with them I had forgotten that little tidbit with the older products like Furballs and Melody (yep, have her and she is my next figure to play with after all the Gumdrops characters).

The upshot is it does work when installed with Daz Connect. I just had to get out of my own way to see what I was doing wrong.

    Thank you both very much!

    Awww.... cute mouse heart

The early hours of the morning often seems to be the only free time I have at the moment for playing with Daz, so I truely get where you are coming from!
