Josh Crockett

I noticed that almost all of Josh's store is now a DAZ Original item. Does this mean Josh has left this community or is now working for DAZ? I tried searching the forums to see if there was some news but couldn't find anything. I loved his critters, they were original and high attention to detail and well worth their money. Hope to see more creations. Hopefully this isn't a repeat of what happened to Sanctum Arts, I'm still kicking myself for not getting that werewolf when they had it and then closed up shop.

I don't miss Sanctum Arts at all, I used the werewolf for a commercial illustration and their lawyers came after me! I was told their products are intended for hobbyists only. I deleted all of their content after that, good riddance. But I really hope Josh Crockett isn't gone from DAZ, I love his creatures.

He hasn't gone anywhere. Most of his stuff is Daz O's so it's in the scifi flash sale. Don't worry :D

Sounds like their lawyers hadn't read the standard EULA that comes with every DAZ product.  And if they had a legal complaint against anyone, it should have been DAZ they went to... which may explain why they're no longer in the store.

They sold their products at their own site before they totally quit the world of Poser content.

They'll remain Daz Originals, so yes, they should be consistenly discounted from here on out to varying degrees depending on what marketing wants to do with them.

As far as Sanctum Arts goes, from what I hear they got tired of piracy and went on to work in the gaming industry

The inclusion of your creations has definitely encouraged me to buy more than 1 Pro Bundle. Looking forward to what you create in the future!

yeah, but when you are getting paid directly from a studio it helps to digest the disgust you feel when you are stolen from directly (from experience)

look forward to your new creations Josh!

Pirating is such a tiny segment of lost sales that those independent contractors that have spent their own time investigating those lost sales via the pirating problem lost more income by spending that time on the investigation of their pirated products instead of spending that time modeling a new product.

You have to steadily sell quite a bit of product, it's not a one-hit wonder sort of hit-music factory sort of job, and not mind doing all the paper work accounting and holding back of your earning to pay your taxes when you are an independent contractor. My brother was a draftsman and made much more money as an independent draftsman but he had to do a lot of extra work to establish clientele and do the extra paperwork himself too. He also often had to come up with new contracts just to pay his taxes because it's too easy to spend an entire contract on your own needs (and wants) and push back the required government taxes until later. Some people avoid working as independent contractors for just that reason because it can get you in big trouble.

Yeah, everything is a DazO now, you should still be able to tag the product though. Also my stuff still comes up in the search if you search my name.

There are days when I'm tempted to buy Hob Gobblin just to se if I can put a smile on his face. There is enough scary stuff going on in this world as it is.

Well, it's less soul-destroying to have people stealing from the company you work for than it is to have people stealing from you personally.  The net financial losses from piracy are often overstated, since not everyone who took the opportunity to use your stuff without paying would necessarily have bought it given no other option, but some people could and would have paid and didn't.  When it's your intellectual property, it's painful.
