I just did some research on this webp thing. It's an image format made by Google to be smaller and more efficient. I found instructions to disable it in my browser (Firefox) but now half the images on the site won't load. The older product images still work and I can download them as Jpg, but none of the new products do. I reenable webp in Firefox and I can see all the images, but of course they download as webp. This is what I mean when I tell people Google is evil. Was there really anything wrong with Jpgs?
There are a few online image converters where you can click and drag the image and convert it. Or depending on your browser, there may be a "save webp as jpg" extension you can add.
i'd be happy if they zipped all the jpgs and included them with the product d/l
without the images i cant remember why i bought something.
more often than not is not the main image which sold me on it.
this only happened recenlty.
it happens on my work pc and my home pc.
i didnt upgrade chrome recently, so i blame the store.
I still get jpegs with IE. Failing that, how about the snipping tool (PC - presumably there's a mac equivalent)? Tedious I agree!
Only the main images were the new image format for me. The rest are .jpg (Firefox).

Pay close attention to number one. It works. At least it does in FF.

Also, another thing that works (in Firefox):
Right click on the image and select "View Image Info". A box pops up with a preview of the image inside. Save As button will allow you to save the original .jpg.
FWIW, nothing I've tried in Chrome gets me a .jpg, which kind of makes sense since webp is Google's baby, so to speak. Damn meddling Google...lol.

Im sorry you feel that way but its not the fault of Daz3D. The system the PAs use for submitting our product only accepts JPGs for promos.
Using Waterfox on Win10 Pro and SolydX Linux I can save all the image as JPG. However, Opera forces webp when saving the exact same image. So its not the store but the browser.
If you look at the page source for each product page, you will see that the files are all JPEG and nothing else.
I recently had the same issue on firefox. I had to type about:config
in browser, the image.webp.enabled needs to be set to true
and image.http.accept set to */*
That fixed it for me
Those are the defaults in Waterfox now that you mention it.
That's the weird thing. Different people are getting different results regardless of browser. I use Firefox and I can't save as Jpg, at least not from this site. When I go to Creativecommons to get textures I can get jpg, png or whatever. I never really tried to save images from Daz until today.
Edit: I found a solution, for me at least. https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/asxxys/how_to_fix_images_saving_as_webp/
Just keep track of what you're changing. If it screws something up, you can always go back to it and reset it to the default value.
Not all websites are using the webp solution, daz was the only place it happened to me as well. But mostly the only other place I grab images from is deviantart, so that's not saying much.
so far i only having proglem with daz store.
was able to save product lib images jpg until about 2 weeks ago. that changed.
there nothing in the image url, thinkin is something in the page html shouts out to google
what browser are you using?
if i embed the image and right click save as i get the jpg
the webp seems to trigger by the site's image compression.
I'm a google chrome user and one of those people who save as jpg by renaming the first image to suit my search criteria and doing a Ctrl V and adding a digit and hitting the right arrow key for the next image, so this webp sucks for anyone who buys a fair amount of products and likes to save the promo images because we all know some of these products names are not what we would associate to the product or use in a search. An example is a product from Riversoft, Horrifying Skins (own both) who would search for a robot under that name? But Riversoft can call her/his work whatever s/he wants because I typically buy it, but the images help remind me why. I normally would not buy horrifying skins and if I was on vacation during that new release I never would have passed it by in a skin search and never discovered it in a cyber or bot search. I too am looking for the best solution for webp alternatives. So far I used three but all have flaws and are not as efficient (shortcut wise) as chrome was with jpg saving.
1. Use Microsoft Edge or Safari or any brower that doesn't support webp. The bad thing about edge is the arrow right button does squat. I have to right click with the mouse which slows things down but for me beats having webp files. It also lowers the snip tool and you have to click it to find it and save any screen shots. The bad thing about Safari is I am a green apple and can't find a quick snip tool. The second choice is snipping everything in chrome which is tedious. The third choice is to save as the webp files and use a photo program to load and batch save as jpgs which is a is slower and tedious step but saster than the snip tool option. The best solution I've found is to use two browser. Chrome to do the snips and manual downloads and save as PDF. Edge to do the save as and/or manual downloads. I am not a Microsoft Edgefan but right now it and I are becoming friends.
is a serious workflow choke. i save images and zipe by copy pasting the exacr product name. once in a while stop to remove a :
was a flow when buying several things together.
i got better things to do then convert image formats or mess with multiple browsers
ive dumped my cart several times for level of effort woes.
to quote dead pool, maximum effort
i dumped the babies , 2 babies addon, leopold
So, I use this chrome extension (I think...not on that machine ATM but it looks like the one I use at home) https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/save-image-as-type/ibcmpbjdpbkbdgejlchkllfiagebgbjp
It adds a new set of menu items to save an image as jpg and a few others instead of webp and seems to work just fine.
I'm wondering if it's cloudfare that is converting them to webp
need these in jpg format today. so ridiculous have to complicate a simple image save
You can also download an app called ShareX. It's like the built in windows snip tool, with a lot more oomph. It will auto save the image to a folder, which is handy. CTRL+PrintScrn will bring up the area snip tool, and ALT+PrintScrn will save a screen grab of the current active window. There are more, those are just the two I use the most. There's Lightshot too for Mac if you need to go that route.
Attached are the above for you, they're *png though since it's what I use for ShareX by default.
thank yoo so much for thr png
I just copy the image and paste it in Paint (if you are using a PC) and save as .jpg....it IS a big pain in the Buttinski, but it doesn't take a second.
basically, DAZ needs to do the reverse of this:
https://www.askapache.com/htaccess/serving-webp-images-for-png-jpg/
It's not DAZ but CloudFlare that converts the jpgs to webp. The promos on the DAZ server are all jpg (occasionally a png sneaks in).
If you have an iPad or iPhone, just click on the image and you can save to your device and cloud. Not sure if that works on Android. On a Mac, shift-command-4 automatically brings up a square selection tool and just select area of screen and it automatically saves a screenshot to your desktop. Windows use the snipping tool. All really simple...
I've been using a FireFox plugin (works in I.E. too, not sure what else) called FireShot - the free version is adequate. The nice thing is you can snapshot the visible section, the selected section, or best of all, the whole page regardless if it is all visible or not. Has settings to default to jpg or png and incremental serialized numbers, so "Awesome_Daz_Product_Promo_000" and "Awesome_Daz_Product_Promo_001" and "Awesome_Daz_Product_Promo_002" help organize your Promo archive library. I have considered the paid version several times but found so many negative reviews of the paid version's issues with registering that I have only used the free version. FireShot is INTREGRAL to my Promo harvesting. But pretty much, whatever you use and are used to is what you should use if you are happy with it.
There. Now you have my two cents!
At least I can save them as images, image magic opens them and will save to jpg, I set it as my default program for that format, a lot of the images on the web now it is impossible to even download, one can no longer save image as or open in new tab, Facebook especially, I guess it’s a protective measure, all you can do is printscreen or snip your browser.
Exactly. Thank god I am a 'puter hoarder. Windows 7 explorer is not not webp compatible. Nor vista. Render on the new machines save images on the oldies.
A lot of methods here are mentioning screenshotting, snipping or back-converting the images.
This is missing a major problem in this - that for a site trading on high-quality rendering, we're being made to look at promos which have been doubly lossily compressed, with two sets of image artefacts - both WEBPs attempts to compress JPG artefacts, and WEBP's own artefacts.
Daz needs to get their act together and tell Cloudflare not to recompress product promos or gallery images.
