I also thought it was an age/culture/respect thing ;)

I do believe that this woman has sat too long in the sun in a bikini.  Good grief.  Having said that, she's in my cart.  So happy to see realistic characters and clothing that you might actually see on the street or in the garden.

I’m curious if there is a way to tone down the breast sag. It’s a tad overdone especially if she wears a bra.

  • Anyone rendered her in 3delight?  She comes with mats, but there are no examples that I've seen (no, I'm not surprised).  Pretty hard to consider buying something sight unseen!

The naming convention would have applied to Floyd, Mabel, Olie and Edie, if it were regarding age.

Maybe Mrs. Chow is the only one who's married.  :)

It depends a lot on culture and individual preference. It's interesting to me because Ollie and Edie are heavy on fantasy (where characters are likely to have honorifics only if they're higher social status) and Mabel and Floyd have a stronger "North American retiree" vibe. If I was introduced to any one of them I'd call them "Ms./Mr." until told to do otherwise--especially if I was still in Florida, where honorific and first name ("Mr. Floyd" or "Miss Edie") would be fairly common forms of address for any adult--but Floyd and Mabel would be the two who wouldn't surprise me if they said "Oh please, call me [firstname]" right off the bat.

I don't own the g8 morphs but usually you can dial out "natural" on the breasts and the get to a bra form

Going to have a look at 3DL mats now, will post a render later

  • Here is my render of the different Mrs. Chow characters side-by-side.

I do believe it is a cultural and also, a respect thing. I like it.:)

I hope someone can help me, I bought the traditional outfit for Mrs.Chow but when I load the outfit, it is invisible.

    Nothing to see.

I tried to uninstall, reinstall but it stays invisible.

I tried to load the textures on it, to see if that makes it visible, but nope.

I never had this happening with any product but this one.

This is also the Iray preview, nothing to see. :(

Well the good news if there is a Mrs Chow there is likely a Mr.Chow.

She probably is a widow, considering the average difference in life expectancy of males and females in most industrially developed countries.

    ok Mrs. Chow, in 3DL

out of the box (which is SSS at 75%) one distant light very light yellow, shadows 50% softened and UE2 very light grey

     and 25% SSS

So even in 3DL she's rather orange

What a fantastic figure and bundle!  I am particularly impressed with "Zhirong".  My first render from this bundle:

Zhirong with the traditional outfit. That's Rose Hair peeking out from under the hat with some of chevybabe25's Backlight shaders.

I admit I’m curious why Mrs Chow is named differently than the other characters. Instead of using a first name. Like presumably Victoria, Bethany, Ollie etc.

Traditional culture demands that adults are always addressed respectfully in public and that means formal address. It's only since the 60 - 70s and later that that has largely been done away with in the US. In Switzerland and the bits of Europe I visited while living there, fomal address is still holding on much better than in the US, especially in countries were formal address is a cornerstone of how their native tongue even works grammatically. English is missing that integrated formality in it's grammatical structure which make it easier to speak familiarly or even disrepectfully if one chooses as the language has no grammatical means to even force formality upon anyone.

I am no expert, but I think English did have a formal and informal form many years ago, however we dropped the informal one (ie thou, thee etc). You, I believe, is the more formal form, and that survived.

  • I have not bought into 'G8' anything really at all. I did buy one character once to trigger a discount on something else until today. I bought Mrs. Chow pro bundle and Edie 8. My entire cart was totalled $1007.10 but with the discounts from MM and my PC+ membership I only paid $300.17. I knocked off a lot of things off my wishlist (mainly props). I think the total I paid for Mrs. Chow was $32.

I definitely grabbed this bundle, since just about everything in it but one hair is something that I can see using. I also picked up a number of the addons. What surprised me, was that with the bundle and the other addons, and the discount, the HD addon came to $2.22. That's practicaly giving it away when comparred to the usual. Very welcome deal. Thank you DAZ.

How did you install? In your screen shot you don't have the figure loaded, does it help if you have Genesis 8 female loaded and selected before loading the clothing - or is that what you did and you deleted the figure to respect the forum ToS?

If you turn the limits off on the "Breasts Natural" morph you can give her a chest lift:

I tried with figure installed and without, this one was a screenshot without the figure, It does not work either way. I am at a loss as to what the reason could be.

I installed manually, then tried with DIM, but nothing works.

    I have this line in my logfile : D:/Users/Petra Robinson/Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Daz Connect Library/data/cloud/1_58581/people/genesis 8 female/clothing/dforce traditional outfit/traditional hat.duf (1,1): Syntax error - expected '{' or '['

At the risk of echoing the sentiments of everyone else in the thread- Mrs. Chow is fantastic, and the Zhirong character is especially nice.

I would like to add my voice to the chorus asking for a Mr. Chow!

Also, older African-American characters would be greatly appreciated.

The Daz family has become amazingly diverse in terms of age, body type, and race/ethnicity.  Big ups to Daz and all the talented vendors.

yes Yes, would love to see those possibilities.

I'll admit, Mrs. Chow is not a character I would be using anytime soon. Seriously did not need her right now and I'm not one for jumping for the 'incentives' for purchasing the Pro Bundles, but yes, the sales for this character were hard to pass up. I pretty much grabbed a bunch of G8 HD-addons and ran with it. haha But beyond all that, I have to say Mrs. Chow really is a fantastically designed character and I'll support these kinds of characters. She has a look that just captures one's attention, IMO. Wow, great work to all those involved in not just the Pro character, but the addon characters, the outfits, etc. People seem to really love the look of Zhirong, who looks fantastic, but I think Tao is just as impressive. There's something sweet and wise about her look.

Thank you so much for the renders, Linwelly!  Orange really seems to be the preferred skin colour this year, doesn't it?  Maybe it's a southern thing... everyone up here in the north is pasty after a long winter!

I have her and some of her goodies in my cart, and... I really like the ChOni, but it isn't 3Delight compatible, and yes, I could probably figure something out, but... I can't use DForce anyway, so what use are all the pretty clothes?  And if I start in on G8, even for just one-offs, I'm going to need morphs, so many morphs! clothing fits... I'm probably better off to save myself from this, and save up for the iray to 3delight converter, and other useful things.

She came close, though, to dragging some of my runtime up a couple generations... her and the Floyd nestled in my cart, having a little kaffeeklatch together ;-)

Wow,  seems like not too long ago, you could not get a mature base figure, a pre-teen, or any ethnic characters, and PA's would argue you into the ether why it couldn't be done,  and now the Daz line up has thankfully become nicely diversified for people trying to do things other than cheesecake and pin ups.

I guess the naysayers must be off sulking that other people are making the cash they decided to ignore, but I for one couldn't be happier.
