Misleading Product Names - School Girl Poses - A hidden Gym set, bicycle & more
in The Commons
With so much stuff coming out these days, it's really easy to overlook a hidden gem, and the generic names of some products really don't do the content of the product justice. Case in point: disordercode's new School Girl Poses for Genesis 8 Females set. I only happened to open the page for this product because I didn't recognize the bicyle used in the promo. Surprise, the bicycle is part of the set, as are a set of gym bars, a desk, a carry bag and a bunch of other small props, not to mention a pile of poses for each item. So, given that I'm mainly buying the set for the props, perhaps a better product name would have been School Girl Props and Poses...?

Spot on! I almost missed this one.
I noticed the props and poses were included for what its worth.
Thanks for this post, I was just going to skip it to but know into my cart it goes
'Tis why I always check the product descriptions. You never know what you might miss!
There is no way to name a pack that represents numerous props, characters, morphs and such combined. This is why you should always check what's included in the pack.
Good catch.
Looking at the poses, many are generic. The bike and its poses are great for anyone regardless of age; and so too are others - as long as of a sporty persuasion.
Sure there is : if that was this set it would be Schoolgirl Poses, Props and Morphs for G8F It doesn't tell you everything that's in there, but it at least it gives you a heads up of the type of products incliuded and it'll pull up on a google search.
As for looking at what's included in every pack... there are currently over thirty thousand items in the DAZ store. Who has the time to go through each and every one of them in detail? Sure, you can go through the new releases as they come out, but will you remember that set A had a bookbag in it six months later?
+1
The problem with leaving it to checking descriptions is that the preassumption is that all potential buyers, new and existing, are willing and able to check every single item in the catalogue for a single item they might need/desire. If sales of primarily new items are the majority driver of sales , then this is not so much of an issue. However, a list of Daz-searchable keywords attached to a package would make the issue - however relevant to sales numbers - vanish.
As a side note, I find searching for items at Daz a very hit-or-miss (and VASTLY more miss) proposition. If I need something specific, I usually end up somewhere else, where the search engine actually gives me some relevant results. Mostly, I imagine this hurts vendors with back-catalogues more than Daz.
Hence the need for Daz to hire a resident anal retentive to categorise all the products in the store. Give them a corner where they can organise to their heart's content, and once a day they go through upcoming releases proofreading product page copy, linking associated products, and keywording all props & elements. Of course....
Not misleading at all. It seems to be pretty clear in the description and the pictures I think
I guess no one remembers yet these were released for V4 back in 2011 as 3 separate products by halcyone, still available at Renderosity.
I’m really pleased that I bought it, it’s a great set!
So true. I have so many sets that I bought for certain knick knacks and peripherals htat weren't the main product, but I had a massive categories fail back in the day of the old content library system and I'm still finding things that I've been wondering where they were.
Obviously all new poses and textures, though, since niether G8F nor Iray existed then.
Not in halcyone's store AFAICS.
It should have said poses and props
They used to be called SchoolGirl, SchoolGirl2 and SchoolGirl Expansion, but yeah. they're definitely not there anymore.
I hear you! I just bought a lovely harp from Daz. It's been around for years because it's not Iray and I only found it because someone linked to it in a thread about musician poses. I've made a number of searches for "Harp" on Daz & this one, with "Harp" in the name, never came up.
Or whether or not the props in a scene are static or not. Things like hospital beds for instance that one would expect to be positionable. From the descriptions I typically have no idea if that's possible or not, nor do the example renders reveal much. Or sets that on the face of it sound like a complete set, like a house or apartment, yet are actually only a room or two and missing key elements. Imagine being shown an apartment IRL that lacked all the basic amenities that so many environments here do. Sure you can get a bedroom here, a kitchen there but they don't often if ever line up or match in any respect.
But honestly I think the hospital type scenery is what gets me the most. "Oh look, the doors move!". Well, what about the beds? I wouldv'e thought that was the question any reasonable person would be asking. You expect doors and sometimes windows to open/close.
And thanks for the heads-up. I don't even recall seeing that one. Very versitile looking.
That's interesting. I looked yesterday before I posted and they were there. Thats why I mentioned it. They must have pulled them right after.
