Polygonal offerings: all Iray?

James_HJames_H Posts: 1,096

I get that some of these are props (cicada) and some are rigged (crab). So I assume the props are just what you see. But on at least one there is specific mention of Iray, on others there is not: so are these all Iray or just where Iray is mentioned?

If someone finds out, I'd be grateful for a heads up.

doesn't take much finding out...just look at the storepages. some of the items are .obj/.fbx, so they are not optimised for any render engine. the  others mention on the page if they are optimized for Iray....

Are the bird props posable or rigid? Some of the birds have a base, can the base be removed?

they are all including the crab 3D scanned objects so all one mesh AFAIK

The crab is rigged, which means it has the bones setup. so that would make it posable.

    The birds dont mention that.

Pity the cicadas and the birds are taken from dead originals, you can see the pin hole on the textures of the cicadas and they look dried up.

Usually, when I see something described as a "prop", it means that it's not posable. I don't know if that's a general convention in the industry, but I've seen it used that way fairly consistently.

  • Hi,

All materials have been configured with iRay in mind. Regarding current offerings: only the Crab is rigged. There is always a trade-off between functionality and photorealism IMO. My focus is on scanning, so yeah ocasionally, artifacts, like the pinholes will show up...

Hope this is enough info. Enjoy and thanks for your support.

Does this mean iray material is incuded? Or do we have to create ower own shaders for iray?

Can the base be hidden on the bird props?

    Since they are scans, no.

    Iray Materials are included.

Branches are part of the model, but the block underneath the vulture can be removed.

Thanks, Polygonal. I thought that was the case, but the item descriptions are not consistent in mentioning Iray, so I thought I'd ask (I use Iray).

I'm a bit torn. I can use the birds and can live with them being rigid but there still are quality issues. The neck feathers on the vulture are distorted with similar issues on some of the other birds. Some have leg bands. I'm not sure how the scanning process works but I really don't want to remove bands in post process. They would be good background props but I usually need objects with high quality and large dimensions. You can get away with imperfections for small background objects but have been burned on other Daz products. I need realism AND quality in many cases.
  • Yes scanning results are far from ideal. Hair and feathers are particulary hard. I just don't have the time to model replacements and fix scans. Maybe someone here is more capable than me... The leg bands add to realism. I love the imperfections and oddities. If you don't want them, you'll have to photoshop... Good luck!

Consulted with my good friend Mr. Google and can see what the issues are now. In the end it's unfortunate those bands are on the birds per my needs. But creating my own 3D scans is intriguing and has possibilities. Now if only I can find a vulture...

Let the vulture find you. Go to the nearest desert and play dead... or find a taxidermist ;)
