Two sets of those are for G3 and G8?
Sorry, but I don’t understand making the ground position manual, Couldn’t you just drop the character to floor? And if the invisible heel is moving the character up, couldn’t you just move her down the Y axis? Also, can’t you actually delete the geometry rather than make it invisible?
And for the window in the wall, can you paint straight lines with the geometry editor? (I’d just try it myself but life crap is taking up a lot of time just now.) Also just noticing that none of my apartment windows have a frame. They are indented and the glass starts about eight inches in, so I’m wondering if you could do that on a wall. Some modelers make huge bare walls that would look way better as a window with a nice backdrop... Ugh, still so much to learn about DS....
Only higher heels may fit certain clothing styles, but in the wrong context hardly anything looks as ridiculous as high heels. This has nothing to do with fantasy or not - even fantasy must have a minimum of credibility. I've seen gladiator outfits with high heeled sandals... Is there anything more silly? - Super high stilettos on pointed shoes never look elegant, I think. Maybe Ferragamo alone can find a way to make them look good... But this is my personal taste.
There are Genesis shoes by SickleYield (Sickle Super Heels and Sickle Super Heels 2; over at Rendo); these shoes have morphable heels. So the technique has been around for a long time, and it works well.
Furthermore I can only recommend the above mentioned 'Patchwork Shoes' by esha. They are available for G2F, G3F and G8F. Dogz' 'Summer Footwear Collection' is also indispensable for all those who want to have more choice with the heels, and who want to make a whole bunch of pretty summer shoes and sandals out of one set - for all Genesis generations from G2F on.
I really liked how they offered both heels/flats in TreadZ (https://www.daz3d.com/treadz-for-genesis-3) where the morphs control wedge/flat/etc. Regardless, I'm all for more flat shoes (or at least the option) - especially for fantasy/sci-fi outfits.
PAs should be aware that I often pass on their outfits if they have high heels. I've mentioned this before.
I've also observed that the Daz store has something like an 80%/20% High Heel to Low Heel ratio. I may not be exaggerating there.
I was browsing through my smart content recently looking for some decent low heeled options for some characters, and even with me being 'biased' against buying high heeled outfits most of the time, and favoring low heeled outfits in sales, I still had limited choices when it came to picking low heeled shoes, but had a plethora of high heels to choose from, which I didn't want to use.
What makes it worse is that most of the high heeled shoes and boots are simply variations on the stiletto heel style. High heeled 'wedge' heels are far less common, but may still outnumber my flat heeled options.
A reason that I probably have as many high heels as I do in my Daz library is because many of the women's outfits in pro bundles have high heels, and I jumped on the 'buy this pro bundle, get these other pro bundles' bandwagon over the last year and a half or so when that was being offered with G8 bundles. I don't use most of those high heeled shoes, though, they mainly just collect dust in my library...
Divamakeup mentioned using the geometry editor to 'edit out' the heels, but if you want a short heel instead of a flat shoe, this is a bit more problematic. Sure, you could stick a primitive or two of some sort at the bottom of the shortened heel that is now hollow, but the point is that's extra work. And if you export to Hexagon and then re-import it, that can introduce other issues...
So yeah, it'd be nice if a few more PAs would take the time to make 'low heeled' versions of their shoes, but I'm not holding my breath. Just be aware that I may pass on your product if you chose the high heel route, especially for a 'fantasy/medieval' outfit.
Yes, you answered my question, even though I was unclear. I shouldn't post so late at night.
Even though they're incredibly bad for a woman's long term health and cause over 100,000 trips to the emergency room per year in the U.S. alone, I have to admit that I do like the look of high heels. That said, high heels on some things simply look ridiculous and/or stupidly dangerous, especially the nose-bleeders and stripper-platforms that many DAZ artists habitually use. But hey, what are a few snapped ankles compared to all the other damaging and toxic things women regularly do to their bodies in order to fit our culture's increasingly unrealistic standard of what's considered attractive? Just gimme those girls in high heels and swimsuits!
I was tempted to do a render with heels only in it, but quickly realized how much work it would be with all the heels I own in DS, LOL
Seriously. I imagine a lot of us long time DAZ users could give Imelda Marco's infamous shoe collection a run for it's money. However, to figure it out in my own case, I'd have to go back and manually look at all of my outfits to see which ones came with shows and which ones were shoeless. That's way too many hours I'd have to put in to find out. :(
It'd be a morph, so you'd have to own the original product for it to do anything - but I'd always ask them first anyway.
Right? High heeled _space suits_ with the ******* hanging out, no less. Like, whevever envitronment, from acidic to vaccuum, made me want that protective suit, probably won't hurt my boobs, right? 9_9 Wait, we probably can't say ******* - With the disctinctly female mammalian anatomical features hanging out. >.>;;
I agree with both of you - I tend to buy every reasonable show I see, and I could just swap 'em out...
...But that still eaves me rewarding someone who decided I didn't need any option but hooker-heels on road leathers, a space suit, or black ops gear with a sale.
It chafes, it does. >.>;;
I, too, think this will prove to be a Very Good Thing to have learned, thank you! :)
If you don't have the ground position on Manual and have it set on Auto instead, no matter how far you "drop the character" the ground keeps moving lower. Auto makes sure where the ground is drawn is always below all of the geometry in the scene. So trying to hide the invisible heels under the ground plane doesn't work when you have the Environment Ground Position Mode to Auto. So setting it to Manual allows you to do that.
I think you can delete geometry by first using the Geometry Editor tool to "paint" the area you want to delete then right click and scroll down to Geomentry Visibility >> Hide Selected Polygons. Then right click again and select Geometry Editing >> Delete Hidden Polygons.
As for straight lines, it depends on the geometry of the object. It selects the polys.
I like high heels (foot bend + metatarsal bend > 45deg) and flats - but nothing in-between and no boots. Must haves are athletic shoes, ballerina flats, pumps, and high-heeled ankle strap sandals - All relatively simple, basic designs. I wish these are are available when a new character is first released. Or even better for new characters - compatibility with previous generations!!
Just a small list of the 25 most recent sci-fi suits, including today's new Hydron suit (which is a skip for me, simply because it's way too pricey for me when it doesn't include heels):

Flat: 15x
Heels: 10x
And there are several in that list (especially some of the slightly more skintight and revealing suits, which already wouldn't win first prize for realism anyway) that come with flats, which should've looked much better with heels. For the more bulky and heavily armored outfits, I'd agree that flat boots look better and more consistent. But overall, the numbers show that there are already way more outfits with flat boots than with heels. And it's been like that since G3F. For Victoria 4, Genesis and Genesis 2 Female, there are noticably more high heeled sci-fi outfits. But for people mainly using G3F and G8F, they're severely lacking. Especially since high heels from previous generations are a pain to convert, while it's relatively easy to do for flat boots.
Rendering people isn’t my thing and I just was reading through this thread out of curiosity (even though I’m not a cat)...
Just a thought.... Since a bunch of you folks who posted here seem to know of outfits and clothing sets that include flat soled shoes and boots, you guys should start a thread listing (with links) all the store items that fit this need... kind of a community resource for seekers of the flat soles.
Hmmm... that could be a cheesy title for the thread... “Seekers of the Flat Soles... Flat soled footwear thread”
I need more coffee...
+1 for no heels, or morphable heels, or flat heels...
especially now with figures like G8 (or others with fit-all addons) that wear the wardrobe of pretty much any other figures - also cross gender.
many cool outfits, like leather pants or whatever, can be worn by males even without going in the "dude wears dress" niche. and so often i see one of those outfits, with awesome shoewear fitting the outfit's style perfectly, and then *bam*, heels so high my head spins. ofc i kitbash a lot too, but sometimes i just don't have anything remotely fitting, or i'm sick to always use the same stuff to kitbash in, or i'm really frustrated because those shoes/boots would be so cool - but for the stoopid heels.
and yeah, i use the geometry editor a lot, but then the feet poses are a pain, or everything distorts. so i'd be ecstatic for any ready-made solution by the vendors.
TMI side note: as a female i've worn heels 1x in my whole life: i was 12 and it was a new year's party (family friendly & parents were present!)
...OK, what about G3F?
More or less the same thing applies to G3F sci-fi outfits. It's the Victoria 4, Genesis and Genesis 2 sci-fi outfits where heels seem to be more common than flats.
And, as awesome as the RSSY Clothing Converters are, high heels sadly remain problematic in conversion. So those older generations are quite limited as fallback alternatives to find something to match.
...however, add in "contemprary" (which I also use a lot) and the ratio changes.
I'm really not either - or, at least, if someone asked, I'd certainly say it wasn't my thing. But, I do client art, and they always want people, and I do own a truckload of people and clothing, on the theory that "If I ever do want to add a person, I want the best..." It's odd. If asked, I'd say my art and interest are 99% buildings and machines, and yet... all these people. >.>;;
I need more coffee, too.
It's a great idea, though, about the thread.
Superceded...? ;) I know... I know. I have all this stuff. And, really, I wasn't even in it for G2 or G3, and just coming back and getting G8 stuff, I end up with all this G3 stuff, 'cause it fits fairly well, or if it's just the perfect thing, I figure I can always fit it in Hex or Blender... ::sigh::
...yeah save for some hair and an occasional character morph, just abut every character asset in the store is for G8 now. Still have a number of items on the wishlist I am slowly acquiring (tight budget). Sometimes sales help (December was a very good month). Yeah I have a huge library of character assets, all the way back to Gen3. (I still have a soft spot for Aiko 3 and Sadie). There are a couple tricks I know of to old content to work with G2 and G3. but going backwards from a newer figure (like G8 - G3) is a different matter. I have the G8 - G3 Clothing Converter in the cart (thanks to the Best of the Best sale) but in the description it mentions it will not work on "wearables" (outfits thatare complete single preset [which PC+ and Daz Original clothing often is]).
the PA who creates the deheeler utility will do very well financially indeed.
Considering footwear all have different geometry I doubt that such a product is possible.
it is just geometry thats the point, is a matter of reshaping and scaling, I can myself easily deheel anything in the Carrara vertex modeler but of course cannot redistribute that, one needs a one click DAZ studio solution for most users thats all.
But how would it identify the heels?
all the geometry under the soles of the feet
just rescale it all and repose feet I can manually do this and load it as a morph could be done in Hexagon if need be, whats needed it a utility that selects by weightmapping everything under the sole to rescale on y axis and maybe some sliders for different parts of the foot to finesse the process
