The meaning of the word "armour"

armour |ˈɑːmə|(US armor )
noun [ mass noun ]
1 the metal coverings formerly worn to protect the body in battle: knights in armour | a suit of armour.
Source: Oxford Dictionary of English

For far too long, I've been cringing every time an ... outfit ... for female figures has been described using that word. And now, it's gotten even worse. One of the newest products in the store is an "armour" that provides less protection than the stereotypical chainmail bikini.

Seriously, can we stop doing this?

Please?

    Well Murgatroyd

The whole armour problem isn't a problem if the assailant aims very carefully as to hit the metallic parts.

    Good point! :cheese:

I don't disagree with your point in general, Murgatroyd, however, in this case, you also need to recognize that this particular "armor" is meant to be impractical since it clearly states that is inspired by the fantasy art of Vallejo, Bell or Frazetta. In this case it's not meant to be taken as serious armor, whereas much of the other armor you're referring to seem to have that expectation.

In this particular case, the assailant would have to achieve a level of accuracy usually reserved for the likes of Robin Hood.

As a Frazetta, Vallejo fan I find the set to be perfect for those type renders. This is Fantasy after all. If you need Real "armor" for your renders they also exist in the store. This is sort of like saying I don't do zombie horror, why do they sell zombies?

Name three. Refitted male armour doesn't count.

This is a systemic problem. I wouldn't object nearly as much if the non-protective armours weren't the vast majority.

I never said a word about Female or Male. Tip! in REAL life not many females wore armor of any type. So your still in fantasy if that is what your looking for. And the few famous women that did wear armor often wore custom sets made only for them or sets reworked from male sets. I'm just saying I understand the Artist doing the new set as it was done, fantasy sells far better than real in the 3D art world.

I haven't seen any previews of Teen Josie yet, so she could be 18 or 19 for all I know, but I'm sure we'll find out for definite in due course.

Points already made, but since I'm here... the conventions of fantasy pin-up art were established long before most of the folk on this forum were even born. Even so, nobody is forced to comply with said conventions if they don't want to - there are alternate options available.

In addition to items listed above, Betomelo's Celt 1 is also worth checking out... http://www.daz3d.com/age-of-warriors-celt-1-for-genesis

Further to the armour in the DAZ store and if you're looking for Genesis-specific armour, SickleYield has a couple of full-plate suits in her Renderosity store, and there's also fantasy ranger armour for sale over at Xurge3d's store (and other armour sets too if including Gen4 figures).

While these are male Genesis shapes in the attached image, I could just as easily have applied female shapes instead or fitted to G2F - these are made up of both SickleYield's armour sets and middle guy is also kit-bashed with cloak & breastplate from Celt1...

While not full plate, a couple more Genesis items worth mentioning...

    Caput Caseum - http://www.daz3d.com/caput-caseum

No. Some of us like that sort of fantasy 'armor' and are just of sick of hearing people complain about it as you are sick of seeing it.

Fantasy Armor uses MAGIC... Invisible magic to cover the "seemingly vulnerable" areas. In actuality, the armorer makes the whole set, but shifts a bit of it to the ethereal.

I do think at times it should open an Daz-Exotic store, where more mature and content can be sold.

It would be great for those who are interested to find what they need, and for others who are interested in family friendly content to find what they are looking for.

Yeah, it's high time we discuss this new and pressing matter that threatens the very core of 3D art. Finally, after what feels like aeons of forced silence, someone has the balls to speak up about this.

Dear PA's: Stop releasing stuff that some people don't like!

I don't buy it, but I am not complaining that some folk do. It's relatively easy to make, and it sells and sells and sells all weekend long. But that is no more "armour" than it is a spacesuit. It's not even big enough to be a chastity belt. (Heaven forbid someone sell one of those vestal cuiraisses!) 8-/

I'm not particularly interested in skimpwear, outfits of this nature. It would be great for those who are interested to find what they need, and for others who are interested in family friendly content to find what they are looking for.

LOL, from my POV this whole site is G rated. I would very much like a mature DAZ oriented store with full promo images and more diverse content.

There are sites that deal with that sort of stuff.

I agree with the sentiment of the original post of this thread.

There is FAR too much armour out there for wimmens.

We need more armour for Cows!!

How are they supposed to defend the farm against all those monsters without any protection for their udders??

    It's not fair.

    MOOO!!
