Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, of course, but I've always felt the same way. To me, it seems that the G3F figures (and the G3Ms, for that matter) are a bit more "idealized" than their base G8 counterparts... that is to say, the G3F base is a bit more curvy and buxom while the G8M base is a bit more powerfully masculine. That starting point would logically tend to influence characters made using those bases in the same direction, though obviously a dedicated PA can do just about anything with them.
By comparison I think the G8 bases are, overall, a bit more realistic in terms of presenting more of an "average" generic person rather than someone who's about to embark on a career in modeling. What that does do is let the G8s be a bit more versatile in their range, which is why we've had so many great mature characters and bases for both G8f & G8M, as well as so many younger looking characters for G8F.
Personally, I think it's great that the G8s went in that direction, as now the two sets compliment each other quite nicely, and I use them interchageably in scenes depending on what I want.

LOL!
Agreed.
One thing I noticed was that Victoria 7 is VERY cute, but Victoria 8 not so much, and Raiya---for the past 3 generations---has used the respective Victorias as the base for the majority of her characters. Consequently (maybe, I can't be sure if this is the actual reason), her Victoria 8 characters have looked more mature, and she has used the Base G8F for her younger-looking characters. It's a lot easier to make a gorgeous girl if you start off gorgeous.
Charlotte 8 and Zelara 8 have helped raise G8F's cute quotient, but Charlotte's face morph is so distinct that I can only dial her into one girl in a group. Victoria 7 does not put her stamp on faces that have her dialed in. I've taken to doing what Cybersox does: I use both generations together. If Genesis 3 had the expression control and HD expressions that 8 has, I'd use it even more.
OT: But I'm still using G3M for many of my main male characters because we've only just gotten enough variety in the faces to get the cast I seek (though Emma&Jordi's and Rarestone's morph sets give G8M powerful flexibility that I've come to rely upon). I need three more adult Caucasian non-stylised Daz Originals Genesis 8 Core characters with HD Add-Ons to get the kind of coverage I want in G8M, especially since Male-M3dia has only released two male morph sets this generation (his head morphs have the kind of distinctive detail that few if any PA male characters have).
I, too, am partial to Genesis 3. I think it's the curves, not just in the body but the face as well. Genesis 8 females seem to me to have more angular faces, maybe? The ones that don't, have the very round faces that suggest very young characters. It works for teens and mature characters, but not as much for in between, which is probably where most people are looking for their models. Genesis 8 male also seems angular to me.
Don't get me wrong, I really like some of the Gen 8 characters (particularly Mousso girls), but they do often seem to be better for "side characters", I think.
Probably, the same reason why both Genesis 3 and 8 male faces are more sexy & attractive than Genesis 3 or 8 female faces on average.
It's a conspiracy between content creators and kleenex
they are basically the same mesh though
ROFL
I tend to think the same thing, Butch.
It all comes down to personal preference.
I actually think gen 8 males are far more handsome than Genesis 3.
Most female figures in the pretty girl genre look the same to me.... expressions are more realistic in Genesis 8. I always hated the way Genesis 3 smiled. Like they were vamps sizing you up for dinner.
I don't have a preference; far too many of both have big eyes, which is an easy fix.
In my opinion, they aren't :D
LOL!...
(uncomfortable silence

ROFL!!!
This conversation again...
Next up, why are there no genetalia with my G8FM figure???
Oh, but they do. It's just that you're too polite to look.
These days, as a consumer, I'm more likely to focus on the flaws in the characters than the perfrections. It's easy to find the next "Generic Perfect Fashion Model 8". I prefer characters who are slightly asymmetrical or have some flaws in their skin. For me, those are much more interesting and alluring than any of the fashion model characters from any of the generations.
LOL. I shall avert my eyes.
I like that the daz models have been moving more towards realism. The stylized characters are fun but I think Daz can really only achieve technical mastery when it can create a character that looks truly human. That being said, I still enjoy my G3 and have plenty of G3 models that I like better than the G8 counterparts. My favorite Daz figure to date is Alexandra 8.
That is what morphs are for, make them look anyway you want!
Yep, it's all about morphs. If you said that G3 is cuter *by default* than G8, that's one thing. You add enough morphs to G8, she can be cuter than any figure before her. Mix a little Girl 8, Littlefox or 3D Universe morphs, the 200 morph set, add muscularity morphs to males, etc. That's how you make any figure look good.
So true. I am always amazed when I hear a user talk about never creating their own characters with morphs, there are so many to choose from, the options are unlimted. I have never used any genesis character or addon character "out of the box", so to speak. First thing I do when a new generation is released is get the base figure and the DAZ face and body morphs so I can start creating my new character.
Genetics.
I think both Generations are beautiful. So many good characters this G8F. The works of Mousso , Bluejaunte and Sangriart just to name a few. Not sure why so much distaste for G8F. It really comes down to preference I guess. though I have seen some not so great characters in G3 as well.
Hairs are being split in this thread. I only would agree that the Girl 8 & Girl 8 addon characters was much better than the Girl 7 version were it's cut and dried. For the others it's more subtle. I think G8 overall has more realistic variety than G7 but not enough to fret about unless Mabel 8, Penny 8, Latonya 8, Alexandra 8, Edward 8, Floyd 8, ... hmmm, nevermind, looking at that list and comparing it to what came with Genesis 3 cycle and one realizes Genersis 8 far exceeds Genesis 3 in practical utility for all, even those that only do nude renders of beautiful young woman.
Out of curiousity, I just loaded up the base G3F and G8F and placed them in an identical A pose side by side. The differences between the two were minimal at best, though G3F does appear to be slightly slimmer, since when I place them on top of each other, the G8F figure occludes more of G3F than the inverse. The one striking difference between them, however, is that G8F's FACE takes up more of the real estate of the figure's head than G3Fs does. That is to say, G8F's mouth is just a wee bit larger, her eyes are spread just a bit further apart and her nose appears to be just a little thicker, which in turn makes her chin and forehead look less pronounced. Maybe this was done for a technical reason... something to do with the expanded expression controls, perhaps... but the end result is that G8F's face looks just a bit heavier, which in turn makes her neck look a bit shorter. Meanwhile, G3F's smaller face does the opposite, making her neck seem slightly longer, even though the two necks are almost identical. Since most cultures tend to prize smaller facial features in general... no one has a nose job to make their nose bigger... G3F has the benfit of starting off with a slight advantage in proportions that a PA would have to intentionally correct on a G8F figure to match.
I'm pretty confident in saying that the looks of characters have pretty much nothing to do with whatever minor differences in appearance there may be between the G3 and G8 base.
This new character came out: https://www.daz3d.com/evelyn--lynn-hd-for-genesis-8-female
The same creator made this character for Genesis 3 female: https://www.daz3d.com/lydia-hd-for-victoria-7
There are definitely improvements in mats/skin shaders, but Evelyn/Lynn is not nearly as attractive as Lydia.
Lydia (Below) is far more attractive than the character above. The char above is Genesis 8. The character below is Genesis 3.
I'm wondering if I should stick with Genesis 3 female until Genesis 9 comes out?
It takes so much time & effort to try and make an attractive Genesis 8 female when Genesis 3 females look more attractive on average.
This same question has been asked before, and not surprisingly not everyone will agree with your title statement. Check out this thread:

You noted yourself that there were technical improvements. And beauty is famously in the eye of the beholder. I personally find the first (G8) character more attractive than the second (G3) contrarily to you. I'm not fond of this kind of "statuesque", "cold" beauty that apparently you appreciate.
Besides, given the diversity of characters created, I strongly doubt that anybody would find one generation of characters consistently more attractive than the other. There certainly were G3 characters more to my taste than to yours, and G8 chararters more to your taste than to mine.
here we go again ......
And on top of it, using the world "ugly" or "uglier" for G8 characters.... Maybe there are less characters that fit your absolute deal of perfect beauty, but I'd be hard pressed to find any that isn't attractive. The only "ugly" ones one could find are the ones that have been made ugly deliberatly. Even figures that are deliberatly intended to be "regular" are in fact pretty attractive.
Beauty is EXTREMELY subjective. What you find beautiful others might not, and what others find beautiful you obviously do not. So buy what you like and let others do the same.
Live and let live, man.
