Just uploaded a free tree with procedural shaders.  Has star-shaped leaves and strawberry-shaped fruit.  Free for any use.

https://sharecg.com/v/92720/view/5/3D-Model/Carrara-Fantasy-Fruit-Tree

Let me know if there is a problem loading, or if the textures don't work.  I had problems with the shaders for the fruit so i included the opacity maps.

Note - I did not use any translucency on the shaders for the leaves.  Depending on your scene, you might want to add that.

You can have more or less fruit by changing the setting for "weight" in the leaf tab of the plant modeler.  Some screenshots show how.

Here is a 3rd unrealistic plant made with Carrara's plant modeler.  This is a tall tree with tapered unrealistic leaves.  All shaders procedural.  Curious if custom leaves preserved in upload.

Here is a fourth tree made with the Carrara plant modeler.  All shaders procedural.  Made at 15 feet tall.  Still unrealistic.  Free for any use.

If anyone demands that you get them an unrealistic shrubbery, go to sharecg.

The first few are admittedly pretty bad, but I think I am getting better.  Trying to see what can be done with just procedural shaders.  Think this one has a pretty good trunk and branch shader.  Another fruit tree.

You are welcome, guys. Here is a thorn bush.  Should be able to make a pretty good hedge from this one.

    https://sharecg.com/v/92745/view/5/3D-Model/Thornbush-Carrara-format

All photo references welcome.  For the moment, I am focusing on what I can do with procedual shaders and a few custom leaf models.  No attempt at realism.  In fact, my intent is something unreal, but definitely recognizable as a tree, bush, vine, etc. Brash and Moxie will be exploring alien worlds colonized by Earthlings.   In the future, I plan to shift to realistic plant models.  I've actually taken quite a few referene photos at a nearby botanical garden.  But for now I'm just trying to get better command of Carrara's plant modeler.  The curve option in the tree shape menu is intriguing.

ShareCG is giving me problems uploading.  Maybe they don't like my plants.

Here is a Christmas tree.  See attached zip file.  I think it is better than the one that comes in the browser, but I may be biased.

Thanks for the kind comments, Wendy and Misty.  If you have a preference for a type of fantasy tree, I'll take a request or two.  As I mentioned, I'm focusing on experimenting with some custom leaves, procedural shaders, playing with the plant modeler menues, etc.  Just trying to nail down how this thing works.  If I make significant progress, I'll post a screenshot tutorial to my No One Asked Me thread.

Thanks for the freebies. Keep them coming. Almost ready to make a new plant set for the native content browser...
  • DiomedeDiomede Posts: 15,021

@3dendero - yes, still a few more freebies on the way as I experiment.

@Mystarra - OK, I will see about some mistletoe.  A quick wikipedia search suggests that this plant is a horrible parasite, so I won't try for realism, but I will use your reference pics.

Thank you Ted, i'll add these trees in my browser too!

    oh dear, parasite

what does it mean for all the mistletoe kisses

thanks again, what a great collection

made an interesting discovery while playing with one of your excellent trees - that you can put hair on a trunk etc.

found that while trying to meld the base into the landscape = wondered if it would help give the appearence of roots but was unsuccesful (so far at least)

oh I did that on branches for prickles long ago and replicated stuff on too like birds, caterpillars and chrysalids

Love these, Dio and everyone else's... thank you so much!  heart

Hair on trunks is good for mosses, etc, too. But my biggest use is for grasses.   Mistletoe is big business here in the area of the UK where I live...usually way up high out of my reach. frown  Much more common in Europe.

Cheers for the amazing genersosity of Carrarians.  Early Christmas pressies!

Thanks for that misteltoe link.  Very helpful.  I also am a firm believer in using Carrara hair as grass in the foreground.  Part of my plant to-do list is experimenting with using Philemo's hair conversion plugin as part of the grass strategy.

Meanwhile, I've gotten distracted trying to convert my Carrara christmas tree to a Daz Studio freebie, but am having some hiccups gathering the files to make it distributable.  Will get it sorted out.
