In years past were there good Black Friday or Cyber Monday sales?

New this year, so I do not know.  However, there were posts about how great Thanksgiving was last year.

After looking at the Thanksgiving Sale here, I allowed myself to explore the Newegg email and spent there instead.indecision

Wait, whatever happened to the "Holiday Shopping is Easier with a Discounted Gift Card" sale?! That should still be going, shouldn't it?

It probably would have stacked with the 20% off, which would have made it more than originally intended.

Wow, I just realized. TODAY is Thanksgiving day? Happy holiday, everyone! That means no crazy Thanksgiving sale this year? :(

Well, tomorrow is Black Friday; so, we shall see what develops. But so far I'm not impressed.

Well that makes sense, although it also ends the 30% sale on their new releases, which means I'll now skip those AND Lee 8 laugh

That's a kind of Thanksgiving savings as well, I guess ^^

The 30% off should continue for a couple of weeks or so. It is just the special deals (eg: gift card) that have now finished.

Black Friday has already started at another store (50% off everything). Hoping for something similar here because I have a growing wishlist.

No, no, there was a special deal - additional 30% off new releases if you bought, I dunno, 3 or more (or something along those lines) in addition to the gift card sale. And I would bet there were some artists store on sale was well. All that just disappeared after a day.

it's sort of weird they had that gift card sale at all, you would think they knew there was another gift card promotion coming a day later surprise

  • Yeah, at the moment the page is still available so you can see what the sale was:

    https://www.daz3d.com/11-20-holiday-shopping-is-easy

But the extra 30% off new releases for buying two or more doesn't seem to be working either.

  • Black Friday sale 50% off the store but all the usual exclusions apply (i.e. new releases, gift cards, memberships, PC+ items, etc). It sure doesn't seem very spectacular to me and certainly not as good as last years Black Friday sale. It looks like I may be hanging on to my credit a bit longer.

I can't remember the one last year - is Black Friday on the same date each year? (not american so don't really know) I didn't do many orders this date last year (just checked) so can't recall if i was just broke or there wasn't anything big.

US Thanksgiving is the 4th Thursday of November each year, so between 22nd and 28th depending on the year. Last year it was on 23rd, so Black Friday would have been on 24th.

    Thanks!

I was always under the impression that Black Friday is a HUGE shopping day in the states, where you save up for months just to go nuts on that day. LOL. 50% off with all the exclusions is kinda...underwhelming.

As Leana said it was on the 24th and there was a deal that lasted all weekend where you could any new release and get some significant amount of other releases free. I know I put in a lot of small orders that weekend.

Black Friday is a huge sale day in the US. I think traditionally it was for “real” stores, and online stores had Cyber Monday, but I think now there are sales everywhere for the whole weekend

Checked my orders for last Black Friday, and I made 6 orders. Each for one product, and that was a freebie. Not sure why I got the 6 freebies in 6 separate orders, maybe a new freebie came up every few hours, none of them were of products I would have bought anyway.

I did not spend any actual store credit, so I am guessing the offers were little better than this year.

Thanksgiving was on the 23rd last year. From the 23rd to the 27th, I had many orders for $0 (Glitches perhaps, but they are spread out), and lots for $1.39 and $1.99.  The highest was $4.99.  I used $1.68 in store credit I had from some refunds over that time.  I might have used a PC coupon in the fray.
    The $4.99 order was:
Pixie Bob for Genesis 3 Female(s)
Dimi Hair for Genesis 3 Female(s)
Time For School Sweater Uniforms for Genesis 3 Female(s) and Male(s)
Eliot Hair for Genesis 3 Male(s) & Female

This year is a snoozer thus far...

I seem to remember a situation where there was a new offer every four hours, for several days.  Not sure if that was the black firday-ish sale, but yeah I remember having to break my sleep period into smaller naps so that I wasn't offline for more than say 4-6 hours...

Not to mention that several items in my wishlist were at 60% just a few days ago, so *shrug*... I'll pick them up eventually, unless they disappear before then.

  • The sale banner says "Today Only", so there may be other events over the weekend, or something else special on Cyber Monday.

Black Friday is a special day where we Americans gather together in tight knit groups and wait for that most special time of the morning when we get to trample each other in a Walmart and get into knife fights over giant high-def TVs.

    That's our family. ;)

  • Being a U.S. citizen I can say: one day after giving thanks for prosperity - we have the biggest, maddest, possibly greediest shopping time of the year. Black Friday has traditionally been the time that the physical stores make a profit (go into the black (instead of red) ink for the year). Cyber Monday has been for the new online and electronics sales ... but in recent years the two events have been merging.

  • The black friday sales almost equal the craziness that happens at Daz Midnight everyday ... ** eyes shift rapidly back and forth **

I think Black Friday was only really a 'crazy thing' for about a year here in the UK. About four years ago or so the retailers seemed to decide together that it was a great money-making wheeze from over the pond that was going to be milked for all it was worth, in much the same way as Halloween has been in recent years. It only took one round of chaotic scenes for them to decide that advertising TVs etc at giveaway prices but only offering three models which would all have have been sold to survivors by 8.00am was more trouble than it was worth. Now they have much more sedate discount events, typically online, that only give a mention to Black Friday if it's not going to require a beefing up of security. I guess we just haven't got the stamina :)

That's the explanation the marketing people came up with after customers started hearing the term. It originated among traffic cops and retail employees to describe the worst day of the year to have to work.
