Poke Throughs

Hey Everyone,

I know this is a question that's been asked millions of times before so sorry for sounding like a broken record but I'm working on a project and I'm having a lot of problems with poke throughs. I know I could fix some of them in Photoshop post render but does anyone have any suggestions as to how they can be avoided in the first place?

Thanks!

try applying a smoothing modifier to the clothing with collision set to the figure, usually works for me. if that doesn't work, then maybe a push modifier and increase the thinckness of the fabric.

A Smoothing Modifier may help. Or an expansion morph if the clothing has one.

There are also tools like these:

    Poke-Away2! for Genesis 2 Bundle  -  https://www.daz3d.com/catalog/product/view/id/18411
    Poke-Away3! for Genesis 3 Bundle  -  https://www.daz3d.com/catalog/product/view/id/43737

How do you increase the thickness of the fabric? Actually, the "Enble Smoothing" option in the clothing is turned on or are you referring to something else? I also tried, increasing the "Expand All" morph in the clothing to a value of about 10 which seemed to help a little. Also, I'm not sure if this makes a difference but I have applied https://www.daz3d.com/fit-control-for-genesis-3-female-s to the figure.

    Thanks for the help!

  • A few approaches...

    • Add a smoothing modifier, and set the collision iem to the next layer down - eg set the skirt's collision item to be the tights
    • Use Fit Control to expand the top item, or Poke Away to shrink the lower one
    • Scale or expand the top item to make it slightly bigger
    • Use a Dformer on the top item to add a bulge in the right place (tricky, but not impossible, with a posed figure)
    • If the top item is fully opaque, set visibility to "off" in the bottom item(s). It won't matter if her hips poke through if they're not visible. This may save you some render time too.
    • Fix it in post!

Also experiment with the setting in the smoothing modifier

I found that sometimes changing from basic shape matching to generic works better, other times I found that turning down the smooting or turning down the collision iterations works better, sometimes it cranking those values up.
