@Bunyip: Looking good! Just a thought. One thing I do when using billboards for explosions or for something that has a light effect, is that I disable the receives shadows checkbox. The reason I mention it, is that the war machine with the explosion looks as if the explosion has shadows on it from the war machine. It is small, and most people probably won't notice it.

Oh, how did the war machine work for you?

Will sort out that checkbox later, thanks for the tip !!!

War machine worked well, but I used a cylinder with a texture png for the heatray, nice model, although I do prefer the Tripod War Machines, must be old fashioned.

Final render - Take 2 - thanks EP. Removed the shadow issues with the explosion billboards, also removed the shadow with the heatray cylinder, and some minor postwork where there was straight lines.

I was going for George Pal's version. I originally made it for a render challenge.

The particle emitter I made could be better.

Image may contain: one or more people and night

This from EA Poe's 'The Raven'

Much I marvelled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly,

    Though its answer little meaning—little relevancy bore;

For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being

Ever yet was blessed with seeing bird above his chamber door—

Bird or beast upon the sculptured bust above his chamber door,

                With such name as “Nevermore.”

It uses PhilW's v4 Proxy upon which be draped a random fabric of the times  - the mask is made with VWD,

The hand is from the objects foilder in Carrara

    The women is Lenore

    Highly recommend Christopher Lee's reading

A little 80s pop. - this is the start.  Postworked with Filter Forge pastel painting filter.  Freebie is Stezza's time clock.

Still getting caught up on the thread, but I can't pass up a Halloween render. wink

    "RE Your Brains"

Based on the song "RE: Your Brains" by Jonathon Coulton

    Carrara Freebies used:
Magazine in Carrara by Varsel http://www.sharecg.com/v/78098/browse/5/3D-Model/Magazine-in-Carrara
Cheap Ballpoint Pen by Ian Bennett http://www.sharecg.com/v/34619/browse/5/3D-Model/Cheap-Ballpoint-Pen-Carrara
Full Block of Flats by Bloo http://www.sharecg.com/v/60081/browse/5/3D-Model/Full-Carrara-scene-of-block-of-flats.

    Scene Setup

    Render

    Final with Postwork

The zombie is O.G (original Genesis). I multipled the base skin by a mix of pale blue and pale green driven by a cellular pattern and added a squiggly pattern from FilterForge in the glow channel multipled by a very dark yellow-green. The hair is Carrara dynamic hair and the glow for the eyes is a lens flare on two small bulb lights near the eyes.

Loving all the great creepiness! While at the same time learning about Carrara freebies I didnt know about, and learning what Sparrowhawke's new plugin can do. Very cool!

    "Creeping By Us"

based on Leonard Cohen's "The Music Crept By Us"

I made part of Michael 4's head invisible, then shaped a sphere, and used one of MatCreator's creepy freebie shaders to make brains.

I modeled (very badly) the paper hat. I thought it would be easier than it was, but three tries still didn't get great results. UV mapping in Carrara half worked.
