Downloading Product Updates With Daz Install Manager

When I buy a product on Daz3d.com and download and install using DIM, it archives a Zip file somewhere on my PC. Let's say that file is 400Mb in size. Now, when I download an update for that product that is also, say, 400Mb or close, does the update replace the original zip, or is it essenentailly doubling the amount of disk space now required to have that product? In other words, does an update delete the original "packet" or does it compound it?

Packages in Install Manager are identified by the combination of their Product ID (SKU) and their Package ID. When an update for a particular package is downloaded, the existing package with the same combination is replaced; this happens regardless of the rest of that package's filename.
