Solid colors/useful Material IDs in Iray?

I've mentioned this a couple of times before but never really got a clear answer. Now I really need to know because it's having an effect on my work and it's also something I think other artists would benefit from knowing as well.

- Is there a way to anti-alias MaterialID canvas renders? They are useless as is because you can't use them as accurate masking guides.

- If not, is there a way to render *completely* solid colors in Iray (like putting the Ambient strength to 100 in 3Delight)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

This kinda does that (renders solid colours in Iray)

And the toon shader lets you quickly switch apparent color to MaterialID so you can check what things look like in viewport before you render.

Just be sure to mouse over the info icons for information on how to set up the render.

That looks like a nice and useful product, but when I say "solid", I mean one single color with no shading at all.

The problem with creating masks in Iray is that even when using canvases, you're only able to mask by object, not by surface. This is why it's essential that the Material ID canvas render be anti-aliased.

There is no shading at all.

I’m away on vacation but when I get back I’ll demonstrate.

Well, there's been no demonstration, so I'm assuming that your vacation has been extended.

So I'm happy I came across this product and the solution of the mystery of the Iray canvas Material ID option.  I didn't plan out my current render with this in mind, so I'll need to experiment more with something else, but just yesterday there was an Infinity Photo quickie tutorial that made me want to use the Material IDs very much.  I imagine that other raster editors have similar functionality, so I thought I'd share with others who don't know about this yet.

I've also attached a sample of the Material ID channel output of my current project.  The output has its own charm, in a Tom Wesselmann kind of way.
