Brandon 100%, no Dwayne:
After the great discounts offered for previous bundles this bundles deals are pretty weak, where are he free bases with purchase? I can’t even figure out the buying matrix... it’s kind of confusing.
"Strange - a lot of people waits for male characters, but when such item appears - just complaints."
+1. Why would a vendor want to put the immense amount of time required to create a male product when those asking for more want something so specific that there's very little chance of pleasing them? Mixing toon head morphs at very low values can really bring personality to a figure - I've done this for years with my own character, and now I think she looks bizarre without a toon morph - so I don't think Dwayne is completely useless to male figure renderers. I also still don't get people who are yelling for David or another Freak when you can make your own with any of the the dozens of morph sets also available here. These oddball characters are important releases specifically because you can't duplicate these results with existing morph sets.
I've got a bigger problem with this discussion though - why the need to tell everyone that you're NOT buying this? Whoop-de-frickin-doo, I'm not buying it either because I only render fantasy females, but I don't feel the need to criticize something that I have no intention of purchasing. DAZ could release a David 8/Lee 8/Jason Momoa 8 megapack and the release thread would be full of complaints that there's no Jason Momoa 7.
Wow. Yikes. Thank you. i guess I have to get Dwayne. *sigh*
Maybe if people tell Daz why they're not buying it then Daz will figure out better what people DO want to buy. Maybe Daz can tell what does and doesn't sell with sales figures but it won't tell them WHY. Only the customers can do that.

wanting male content does not mean buyers must buy content that doesn’t suit their interests or tastes.
What are you referring to here? I got the bundle for $33 plus some spare change....?
Just jumping in to make sure there isn't a misunderstanding about how the sale works. Obviously you're welcome to like or dislike Toon Dwayne, or the sale, but I do at least want to make sure that the sale is working okay for you if you try to use it, and perhaps clarify in case there was a misunderstanding about how it works.
There are about 1500 products in the "Top Toon" category, many are as cheap as $5 each. Almost all of the Bonus Top Toon items are also in the Top Toon category.
If you buy 4 of these along with the pro bundle, you actually end up getting those bonus top toon items for a total discount of 80% off (potentially more if they are Daz Originals and you're a PC+ member.)
This means that you can get 4 products for about $1 each, and this "unlocks" a discount of an additional 50% off of the Toon Dwayne 8 pro bundle.
Again, I am in no way trying to convince you to like the sale, or the character more than you might otherwise, but I did at least make sure that you were aware that you don't have to buy that old stuff at regular prices, and that the discount it gives you on the pro bundle is an extra 50% (but obviously you can then decide for yourself if that amount is fractionally insignificant.)
Disappointing.
Most people aren't saying why though, they're saying things like "thanks for saving me money DAZ" and "why is it a toon?". Would you want people showing up in every male or creature release proclaiming that they won't be buying it because it's not a female character?
Not saying you have to, but we go through this EVERY TIME there's a male release. There's always something wrong with it, there's always something else they SHOULD have included in the bundle. I don't know why people can't just look at this or any other release, say to themselves "nah, this isn't for me", and wait for the next night's offerings.
Yep. Cheapest pro bundle on launch day in quite a while. I even managed to pick up two items from my wishlist at a deep discount, plus two other items for something like a dollar to qualify for the biggest discount. Okay, these I didn't need, and will most likely never use, but even if I add that 2 bucks on top of the $33 for the pro bundle, that's still only $35, which is less than what we usually get on launch day with the orange banners.
female bundles are criticized as well so it isn’t just that this is a male only occurrence.
There is so little men’s content so people are disappointed when the base figures they want aren’t available or released and a niche figure is. That seems understandable to me.
Yes, they're criticized for not being a male release. ;)
Five new male outfits were included in this release too, all of which can be purchased and used without Dwayne, so that's something as well.
Actually if you are looking for older toon items it's a heck of a sale. All the discounts add up to 80% off of them, plus you get the pro pack for $34. Haven't decided quite what I think of Dwayne yet, but I always have use for toons.
This is the first pro bundle in months that I'm not going to buy. It's true that I don't do a lot of toons, but I still got Girl 8 because of everything else in her bundle, as well as the free content.
I have no use for the Toon Dwayne texture. And his shape is just not aesthetically pleasing to me (I didn't buy Morpheus, but I thought those shapes looked good). I don't foresee use of the outfits included. I almost never buy pro bundles because of the poses. Brandon looks nice, but not without TD, and I don't need Brandon. Only the hair products look good to me, and I ended up just getting Redz's facial hair product with my monthly $6 coupon.
That said, the money I saved today hopefully will go towards Faveral's Modular Medieval Village, or the September sale. So I'm not too upset. I really liked (and own) all the other G8 male pro bundles so far, so I'm hoping future G8 male pro bundles will be more to my taste.
And yes, some more POC, please. Lee, Kimo, a second black character (young/old/lean/overweight/or w/e), or any other previously unrepresented groups would be most welcome to the G8 family. Or let's do some more fantasy/scifi races we haven't already seen!
Well, Redz did get my money this time, but then again, she frequently does. LOL I can always use more facial hair.

oh oh I can recall them being criticized for other reasons namely that they are old, their skin is weird or different races, so again, not seeing this as a male only thing.
Sure, I will be buying the boots and one outfit. The rest are fairly toony and not realistic enough for me.
I don't see anything wrong with people discussing things on the forum, even criticism (and the mods here are good about cutting off super unhelpful discussions). I always find it fun to see what people like and don't like. I know forum posters are only a small portion of the buying public, but it's still interesting to me to see what people like and don't like.
I don't know about this. I think Daz has their own matrix of when they will release characters based on overall trends. It really boils down to you not being able to please everyone all the time.
I really haven't had any issues with the Gen 8 releases, I just know that after Gen 8, I'm no longer investing in these characters. Like someone stated before, after a while you should have everything you need to create whatever you want.
I can see why people wish to bring attention to themselves from Daz for not purchasing something but in the end, the overall sales will point to its poor performance and Daz could probably leverage reactions in the forums as reasons why something performed poorly.
But I've read several of these threads...people will praise a project for no other reason than something like "better bends" or because of the look or just being a fan and people will criticize the product just for the sake of bringing attention to themselves for not going with the crowd.
It's a double edged sword.
I quite like the Dwayne shape but in the promos he looks very angular to me. Lots of fairly flat areas around the cheeks, chin and chest with sharp creases at the edge. Not so much a toon, more like an old fashioned video game from when computers could only render a few polygons per object. I'd like way to round off the edges a bit. I know you can do this by dialling down the morph and adding other morphs but that dilutes his basic shape.
But some of the other stuff in the pro bundle looks very good both for Dwayne and more realistic figures. I haven't been through the matrix of addons and extras to see if I want any of it and how much it would cost it I did. Not a definite buy for me right now but I am thinking about it.
Not to my taste.
But that's what happens when you try and please everyone; I'm sure some folks will be happy, and I'm certainly happy to see Daz try different stuff.
I wouldn't be too surprised to find that that principle you bring up might explain a lot of the uniqueness that we're seeing in G8.
We do indeed have most of what we need to create pretty much whatever we want by this time. Not all of it is in the current generation, but it exists.
But G8 seems to be the first post-Genesis generation where we *finally* got official morphs, and HD morphs, to dial in elderly characters with enough variety in the addon packs to create significant variations of them.
We've got a whole new scattering of stylized figures, in *different* styles. Some of which are enormously useful.
It really is not just an endless parade of pretty young white girls.
Although, that said, I do think we're getting a bit overdue for another realistic male base. Or official Asians.
I'm afraid Brandon without Dwayne isn't really a keeper. A great body, but the face is.... wrong. Click for bigger.
is Duane 8 a face rigged dragon?
Also, Toon Dwyane comes with a Proportions Adjust slider under Full Body that gives him less exaggerated proportions. Less Popeye.
Hmm. Looking at Dwayne more, he does have the angular planes but it makes him render _really_ nicely as a cartoon. Like, he looks flat. Less like a video game character, more like a paper sketch. That's a really neat trick.
ETA: and it seems to be entirely the skin, since swapping Brandon and Dwayne's skins transfers most of the pertinent detail too. What a nice use of (I assume) normal maps.
Can we keep the discussion on the product and sales, please, rather than on what people should or shouldn't say.
So the sale matrix may confuse people so here is my sample cart. I do want several items in the pro bundle and here is a screenshot which might help folks understand the sale a bit better. As usual buying pro is often cheaper than buying ala carte. Dwayne is now quite inexpensive and I get the boots and textures for less.
A proportions adjuster? Now that sounds useful. It sounds like there is a lot of very clever tech in this product.
