tbh Brandon should have been the base character and Dwayne himself a PA character.
The items are great, though.
If a banner discount comes in I will probably buy this guy, but for the last several months they've been really throwing male characters under the bus (then backing up, then moving forward with a trailer attached.) None of the top- toon items are anything I want.
What discount do you mean? This is the cheapest pro bundle launch in quite a while.
Well, probably because most people want something like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and they get offered Dwayne "I'm looking like Popeye" Eight.
And call me uncle and colour me surprised, but it's just as I wrote in the Zelara thread: again a male pro pack with no free older packs given as incentives...
With those arms, I'm thinking about doing a Popeye morph!
pssst .. the Elvis suit cape is a separate item and works very nicely with dforce + wind node. Its a full half circle of material , so if you get a good angle it flares out nicely.
Pardon the nasty crunches on the collar - this render was done midway in development before I fixed all the bends.
Not something I would ever use. Also, I figure this will probably be the only male bundle released for the next 3 months so I am pretty disappointed right now.
I feel very much the same way. Since that Olie character, Daz has moved to peculiar idiosyncratic, non-heroic male characters as well as being far less frequent. I used to spend far more freely on Daz products, but since our mutual interests seem to have diverged, I only buy items where I see usage and cost as an obvious and immediate benefit.
All I can say is that I am quite overjoyed at not having to spend on any new DAZ release today
Well... it does admittedly feel like a slap in the face, because people want more guys to compliment the females (ie equivalents to Sakura 8, Zelara 8, etc), and then get stuck with an ugly toon character. It does give the impression that Daz *wants* male characters to fail and/or do a self-fulfilling prophecy about how “male characters don’t sell”.
If Brandon had been the base character, though, I don’t think people would be complaining as much.
1) Personally, I’m disappointed that we haven’t had a “normal” guy since Edward in February. Stylized guys are fun, but are not as useful to me. I still support male figures because we get them so I often.
2) I’m not a fan of how DAZ is handling the discount this time. What about those of us who have toon products already? I’m hoping there will be an orange banner later today.
3) I just don’t understand why their marketing team would go so far away from how they usually provide discounts when you purchase new figures. I just feel like I’m forced to buy items I previously decided I didn’t want if I want any kind of discount on him or any of his add-ons. Not happy, not happy at all.

With those arms it needs a "spinach eating sailor" character ;) ... which seems to have been noted already (reminder to self, read ALL the pages in a thread before posting)
If it had Guy7 for Dwane 8 would have been an insta-buy but this "guy" doesn't fit well with Girl and the arms look like a nightmare to pose.
As someone who was VERY much looking forward to a new Girl and Guy I'm very dissapointed in both frankly.
I guess I'm Girl7/Guy7 for lyfe.
I'm not saying Dwayne is a bad character either, but he should have been an Add-On character to a "Guy" that was a better fit for Girl.
Unless this isn't the reincarnation of "Guy" at all, but Daz is so cryptic with these things that I have no option but to run with my assumptions.
The head is Toon but the body is a little too realistic.
What can be done with an Asian male done right
Yay! This is great to know. Love the Elvis suit!
and we will never see David again sadly
Ia gree, I think it's disgusting these kind of launches where there is just one ethnicity, Daz needs to do more to represent, they have the power to comission characters and all they put it out is caucasian after caucasian...
and on that note, were is Lee 8?
Price-wise this really is such a good launch I figured they were bending over backwards to get Dwayne to sell. Hint: don’t look at the ‘top toon products’ as the equivalent of ‘free bundles’. And honestly I didn’t notice the lack there, since those deals often feel like arm-twisting to get me to buy something I don’t want instead of giving me a great deal on something I do kinda want.
Exactly :( I feel like different ethnicities should be priority before niche character like this... I'm hoping for a plus character too like Bethany 7, but not sure it will happen.
Sorry im not feeling the good in the addition of the gene pool. Especially the one with Darius looks horrid. (No disrespect to your render of course)
I liked Girl 8. But I am really not feeling dwayne...
I did get the Pro bundle as there is that ONE guy in there (Brandon) that makes Dwayne look the way many think he should have looked from the get go. Dwayne out of the box with that strange square cut sort of body morph, which looks quite strange on the pecs btw, IS a bit off putting. There were other aspects of the bundle that appealed to me (Pomp hair and the facial hair, Brandon and a couple of the outfits) that made me go "OK, I'm in".
I MAY take a stab at a morph for Dwayne that will soften up his musculature and reduce those ridiculous forearms of his! I was also in the Guy camp and am dissapointed that he probably won't show. Another posted said is right, this Genesis 8 generation is quite the odd bunch, Esp for the male releases.
I think the Daz maxim: "Male characters/products don't sell," should be re-thought. Daz Core males will probably never outsell even the lowest-selling Core female, but that is not a negative in and of itself. If male Core characters recoup the investment and have a modest profit, then they should be considered a success, sort of affirmative action for 3D males. Don't compare the males to females: Consider them as a separate category.
Poorly constructed clothing will sell for females because the physical form of women/girls makes the outfit work. Men's clothes cannot usually be skin tight, and they must be proportioned to create an attractive silhouette rather than relying on the human figure to supply an attractive silhouette. Men's clothes can't be cylinders and tubes. They need modeled creases and folds to be convincing. Also, Daz needs to sponsor an in-house seminare on making unattached collars/dickeys as static props with morphs rather than as part of conforming shirt meshes. Mushy collar meshes are ubiquitous in Daz Originals male clothes.
I only like the Pompadour Hair (which thankfully has a lower top morph, the absence of which would have been a dealbreaker) and chungdan's boots (chungdan is the royalty of 3D cobblers, but I wish they would separate the surfaces). Shout out thanks to @BadKittehCo for her new Engineer Boots that I just picked up yesterday. The main thumbnail promo should be switched with the product page main promo because I almost didn't investigate them based on that thumbnail.
I really only like the Brandon character and Redz facial hair. But Brandon requires Dwayne. And the pro bundle with 4 of the cheapest add-ons is only $5 more than the base figure + Brandon. Can anyone do me a HUGE favor and show Brandon without Dwayne?
That's not my render. I haven't had a chance to install him yet.
I can tonight when I'm home from work.
Tbh I think Genesis 3 spoiled me when it came to legit diversity... and probably why I still use those characters, too.
Its just so disappointing to see them go full tilt on whitebread after how amazingly diverse Genesis 3 was. Sure, Gen8 has Mabel, Floyd, etc... but my point still stands.
Wow. This is just spectacularly awful. Terrible base texture, awful sculpting that can't decide whether it wants to look chiseled or doughy, and mostly mediocre bundles, all to cover ground that was handled much better by the G3M Morpheus products. Top it off with an almost insulting promotional "discount" that forces you to buy old stuff at a regular sale prices in order to get a fractionally insignificant discount and I have to wonder if someone at DAZ had a stroke and this was the result...
