Good idea for document tools and thanks for replying.  yes  I actually do use OpenOffice for all my non-trivial documents. But I don't believe that OpenOffice has a calendar. sad  I need a sophisticated calendar product that permits scheduling by time of day, day of week, day of month, or week of month, either as a single trigger or as recurring trigger.  For example: schedule an event on the third Wednesday of every month.  Then I want the trigger to send me an email. enlightened Not a screen pop-up, or a Tweet or Twitter, or Snark or Grabboid or whatever the latest communication fad is. angry I want an email.  I don't use handheld computer devices.  I do all my computer stuff at my desk on my computer.  My life is designed around email, full sized documents, large screen web browsers Internet Explorer or EDGE, and real computer programs, not apps.  I'm an old fashioned guy.indecision  Microsoft used to provide for free a mail program that would work but every few years they changed their mind about how it should work and what its name was.  Now it seems that the last free mail tool they had has fallen through their crack and they want us all to spend at least $100 for their overly complicated, business-level mail product "Outlook", that may or may not work completely seamlessly with non-Microsoft office products like

I recall an old buddhist master who said "I eat when I'm hungry and sleep when I'm tired". Probably the healthiest way to live - listen to what your body tells you it needs - but difficult in this modern world. Modern food which often is produced with taste rather than health in mind also tend to makes us eat more than necessary.

...well the "fever" we've been suffering with where I live finally broke tonight.  Nice and comfortable, down into the 60s already with a bit of a breeze.  Temps will head down into the 70-s for the next several days with a chance of wet stuff even.  Finally will be able to get the first sound night's sleep in almost a week and a half.

Thunderbird has a calendar, but it's newish and I don't know if it would do what you need (I just use it to remind me to take the bins down).

The Outlook 2007 option is looking almost possible, but I hate spending lots of money for old software. frown

I know I could get my mail by browsing to an on-line mail server but I hate those things. Local email programs have much more control over mail filtering and automatic sorting.  I've downloaded my email directly to my computer since email became a thing (I was there).  When I'm gone they'll have to dig my email files from my cold dead hands. surprise

I've used Outlook for many years, too.  Since the 90s.  I was around for the beginning of that, too.  I remember BBS's, I was on a couple.  And there was the offline reader, BlueWave.  Before that came out, I had worked on an offline reader for a friend's BBS, that was run on a Commodore 128.  I did it in Borland C++, and used a modem software (what was the name of that?  Something Comm?) to get online and download the stream of messages in a BBS board room into a text capture file, then used the reader to parse it and view the messages.  It was almost ready, when my friend got an Amiga, and it supported the BlueWave offline reader!  Oh, well, it was a good learning experience.  I've forgotton a lot of the C++ I learned, though.  Haven't used it in decades.

Complaint:  I've decided not to go to Chautauqua tonight.  I'd hoped my back would be feeling better but it's not. sad  The pieces I want to hear will be played late and I don't think I can walk down the hill, sit on those hard benches, and walk back up the hill without aggravating it even more.

Non-Complaint:  I won't be spending $5 on gasoline, $40 on my ticket, $9 for parking, and $20 on food and ice cream. yes  And I still have a chance to go for the excellent final concert later in the month.  Disappointing yes, but the world won't fall apart.  And..., I used some of my saved money to feed my face instead of my brain.  Got more groceries and went to the best local fruit stand and got another of those wonderful watermelons and a juicy cantaloupe. smiley

..ahh, slept like the proverbial log last night. Didn't wake up feeling I had just finished a marathon in New Orleans during the summer.

Forecast is calling for a high in the upper 80s but don't think it will get that warm after the thick morning clouds we had. Still have smoke in the air from those fires which is filtering some of the sunlight (was hoping the change in the wind would have pushed all that out last night).
