    Yes, thanks for the HU.

...yeah, I'm just looking to create models and custom morphs for personal use. This is why I need to keep software costs down as much as possible (along with being on a fixed retirement income).

@ kyoto kid:  If the non-commercial version of 3d Coat is tempting to you, I'm pretty certain that it goes on sale again at Christmas time.  If the subscription amounts you spoke of as being managable were to be put aside until then, you would be well on the way to affording the purchase.  (or if not, something else nice instead).   In the meantime, you could view tutorials and get into sculpting using Sculptris to see whether it is for you.  Any Sculptris models could be re-topologised, UV mapped and textured in 3d Coat.  You might see possibilities for selling things later.

I mean this for the best - I know what a tight budget is.  But if you have time then having great creative tools to get immersed in is money well spent.

...however I understand based on an earlier post here that the Amateur verson is somewhat "hamstrung" in the number of layers and certian tools I may need. I wish their site did a side by side feature comparison like other software publishers do. I do have a copy of Sculptris floating around sonewhere.

Gotta admit, ZBrushCore is tempting, but it doesn't look like it can do the things I'd definitely want for it.  No texture map support or projection mapping, what?  And no fibermesh?  So I don't think it's really going to do much more than what I already can do in Mudbox or 3DCoat.

Would really love to be able to make fibermeshes though.  One day.

There is a side by side comparison of 3DCoat versions on their site, you have to go to the "Buy" page and scroll down past the upgrades.

The differences are textures only up to 2048 pixels, only 7 layers and no 3D printer export in the amateur version, The texture size limit is the only one that I'm concerned about. 7 layers sounds plenty to me, athough I'm not an expert at texturing, and I haven't got a 3D printer. I am tempted, I think I'll have a go with the trial version.

...for creating textures I'm more looking at Substance Designer as it is capable of creating PBR materials and I am unable to do digital painting due to severe arthritis.
