yes. these work very well on all generations of hair. There might be some limitations based upon the Hair mesh... but that has nothing to do with the beauty of this hair system.
Please see above picture by Silver showing Rhene hair which is a V4 hair.
Thanks!
The promos all list what the hair model used is. They cover just about every generation from gen4. And models that were never sold here, either.
I picked this up today, very nice. I love Iray shaders, its just so ez to change up anything with them. The most valuable part of Studio 4 next to the figures is the Iray system for me.
lulz
These look really nice, might have to invest in them. Since Sloshwerks in in this thread, would love to know who/what skin is the promo girl here please
That skin is https://www.daz3d.com/ly-zara-hd-for-genesis-8-female
I apologize to everyone for not listing the skins and clothing and environments... for the most part, I tried to use my own products, but since I used so many different hairs and clothes and figures and skins, it was just too crazy. That's why I listed at least the hair names on the promos themselves.
Thanks Slosh!! The Zara promos look totally different than your promo, no wonder I didn't notice her. Lighting makes such a difference.
This looks like an amazing product! It's in my cart now - just trying to decide on a couple other products before I "pull the trigger". I've been waiting for a product for this here at Daz for a long time so I'm super excited about getting it! I really love the fact that it comes with 7 different shine settings. Excellent work on those promos and the product - I'm looking forward to getting it shortly. :)
BTW, who's the gorgeous girl in this promo (the one on the left with the green bandana):
That is https://www.daz3d.com/imari-for-genesis-3-female by Saiyaness
Oh cool! I didn't realize she had an option without the Vitiligo. Thank you, Slosh!
I love the look in the promos, am looking to get this, but I am curious. Comparing it with, say, UHT2, does this in effect "replace" it as being the new, improved formula that you might have created at the time? Or is it intended to be a different enough effect that both would still be used for different situations?
I have all of the UHT sets and I feel that this one is noticably improved and allows MORE personalization. There is no LIE, so it's faster. If you want a more customized hair texture... continuing with the UHT2 textures might be for you, but you would still want some of the newer feature utilities from Colorwerks for the best IRAY look.
One of the biggest comments I got on UHT and UHT2 was that they looked dry... not enough shine. With the changes to the Uber Iray Shader, I was able to get a much better effect. And the textures are smaller. Plus, without relying on LIE (Layered Image Editor), ColorWerks loads faster in saved scenes. But, I still love UHT2 and the Color Mixer because you can blend layer after layer after layer and get any combination of looks. So, completely without bias for my own products, I would say both are still very viable and useful. You can actually apply ColorWerks, then go over to UHT2 and use the Color Mixer to add layers of color over the ColorWerks base. Of course, that means LIE, but if you don't mind that, then you are open to even more options. And using Color Mixer from UHT2 over the ColorWerks base will not affect the shine you get with ColorWerks. And with either product (and UHT original), any of the Utilties work between the hair systems.
Thanks for the explanation! That's good to know about using the UHT2 layers on this.
I already bought UHT and UHT2 (which are both fantastic and I use all th time), I don't know if I can justify a THIRD hair shader preset kit of this nature (actually a 5th as I have two others from other sellers). If there were some sort of extra discount for owners of the prior UHT sets by Slosh maybe I'd pull the trigger but as it stands I'll probably sit this one out and stick with UHT, dry as it is.
I knew going into ColorWerks that some might feel this way, so I totally respect your decision. I appreciate very much that you have the other two shaders in my store and that you like and use them all the time. Thank-you :)
I have the OOT product from Rendo and it's OK, but this is on my wishlist as it does more, only because of both the ability to add extra sheen & the color gradients.
Did some test renders using an old V4 hair. Lighting is just the default Scene and Dome light. First render is the default shader with just Iray Uber Base, the rest are with ColorWerks shaders.
What are the reasons to buy UHT and UHT2 over ColorWerks?
Since UHT2 uses LIE, I imagine it allows for some layered color blends which are not possible with ColorWerks alone.
Personally, I use UHT2 when I want dry/normal hair and OOT when I want shiny/glamour hair. I wishlisted ColorWerks since it uses the new iray features (e.g. dual lobe) and has more easily customizable shininess (imo) while also being easier on system resources.
I wouldn't buy them *over* ColorWerks. If you already have them, ColorWerks is a big improvement in the hair shaders and the color options, and the shine options included let you go from dry/normal hair all the way to hair ad supershine. The number of base color options in ColorWerks is *insane*, and the special blends that SloshWerks did are *gorgeous*.
Now, there is reason to buy UHT2 and the Fantasy Color addon in *addition* to ColorWerks. The color options in ColorWerks are amazing, but you can use them and then *add* more colors/combos/layering from UHT2 with the mixer utility. ColorWerks has 6.3 million color combinations possible with what it comes with. Adding UHT2 and the LIE Color Mixer makes that literally limitless.
LOL. :D Okay. I'm a guy. We don't have that many colors. :D
ROFL! Right? Like our shoes
I cannot seem to find any documentation on what order to apply things to make this thing to work. I would aboslutely love to use this on every hair ever, but it doesn't seem to want to work for me. I assume you follow this order...highlight hair>apply base color>apply mask>apply secondary color. I've tried all kinds of other options too, but I just cannot get the secondary color to show up. I also cannot find a readme or anything that would help. Any guideance in HOW to use this awesome looking thing would be appreciated. This is exactly what I have been waiting for!
You are doing it right... let me ask a silly question... Are you not seeing the overlay in the viewport only? It will not show there. You have to use nVidia preview or render it to see the effect
I'm doing my first render with Colorwerks. I couldn't resist splurging and getting it immediately. @Slosh always does an amazing job on his hair color products. They have been my go-to products for hair since the first UHT came out. So far, Colorwerks is pretty fantastic. I'm looking forward to exploring it more. I don't think the OP will regret getting it.
I LOVE this product - though I am experiencing something odd. All of the colors are MUCH lighter for me than the icons are showing. Like this one is "CW 01 Brunette 079" (which shows a much darker, almost black, color in the icon). It looks almost ginger in my scene:
I've tried quite a few different lighting and the colors all show up much lighter than the icons. Are there any darker colors or a way to darken them? There doesn't seem to be any colors for black hair either.
Again, I love this product - but for some reason all the colors are showing up super light for me. I've tried quite a few of the colors and loaded them in different scenes with different lighting and they show up really light.
Blacks (and whites) are in the Grays folder. There are a few of the blacks with brown undertones that you might like for very dark brown hair. But, the reason the thumbs look darker is because they are small and you are seeing a condensed version of all the colored strands in the full sized hair. There was just no reasonable way for me to properly show it off in thumbnails, which is why a lot of them look very similar until you see them on the hair
Those have been my go-to Iray hair shaders since they came out. These will be my new ones. Still love the OOT IrayPair shaders, but there is SO MUCH versatility in applying overlays with Colorwerks. I'm thoroughly impressed with these!!
