Some is skimpy,. some has full coverage. As for what you would consider lightweight, well that's a good question. Are we talking leather armor only? Also, do you need arm and leg coverage, or are you only looking for torso armor?
Champion outfit for G3 is the only thing I can think of offhand that is definitely meant as a fantasy combat outfit, not plate armor, and covers the areas you're talking about. There's a semi futuristic thief/ninja armor getup for Aiko 7 that I can't think of the name for. RawArt's No Suit involves a G3F character who has been remapped so that you can, for instance, use leather shaders on her torso without affecting her head or neck. I've found it helpful as an underlayer to some of the skimpier options.
Leather Fantasy Armor from SHIFTING IMAGES comes to mind, if Genesis 2 is truly an option. A nice mix of sexy with coverage.
For Genesis 2, the Shieldmaiden outfit and associated textures.
I LOVE the Dragon Rider Outfit for G3F... of course, there is cleavage, and what constitutes adequate breast coverage?
I also love the Keres outfit both as skimp and as protection, but you'd need to mix in your arm/leg coverage from other outfits (like Dragon Rider).

Yeah. mostly torso My character is an adventure-seeking brat of a pruincess who goes on a journdy into a dangerous magical forest with some dudes to find something. She's not really a warrior;hsesr strengths are more so in magic aqnd agility. So, I don't want her dragging herself through such a place in heavy metals like a rookiaee or have cleavage and stomach showing like she's out to be sexy.
thanks guys
This looks like a nobles cloth armor - https://www.daz3d.com/countess-ensemble-textures
Maybe wear a shirt underneath
I get an incredible bit of mileage out of this shader set:
https://www.daz3d.com/uber-iray-medieval-armor-shaders
It's good for a lot of things, not just armor, and is by far my second most used shader set, second only to the infamous Iray Uber Base shader (which isn't a 'set' really, but is easily my most used shader).
Anyways, I bring this up in case you want to follow up on Cortex's suggestion r.e. maybe wearing a shirt underneath. There's some quilted/padded armor shaders in this shader set, that you could apply to a shirt if you were just looking for an undershirt to cover some areas. Of course, fitting your armor over said shirt might take a bit of work, but I use this technique every so often with a bodysuit underneath some other armor ensemble, if I want to get full coverage.
The countess would be nice if it had actual shoulder straps to eliminate the hassle of having to stuff her breasts bsck into it every 10 minutes. lol
Can those iray shaders be converted to 3Delight
I'm currently not using 3Delight, so I was hoping someone with 3Delight experience might respond. However, as far as converting to Iray to 3Delight, there is this product:

Discussion thread for said converter is here:

I personally like the Rune armour:

I often just toss a sleeveless shirt on under anything that reads a bit too revealing and it works great! Leather or knit shaders look good.
I have a series with 5 year olds imagining themselves acting out a story the children's librarian is reading to them. Needless to say they are NOT bringing sexy back, LoL!
Another thing I do is upsize a good crossweave shader to read more as sack cloth or burlap for the poorer boys and girls.
https://www.daz3d.com/the-legend-for-genesis-3-and-8-female-s is my favourite for G3/8 females. LOTS of options on what's covered and what's not, plus it mixes well with other outfits.
I don't have those so I never tried them in 3DL (they look great though, so I'll probably get them some day....)
Here are a few 3DL shaders which can be useful for armors:
https://www.daz3d.com/super-shaders-armor-fabric
https://www.daz3d.com/shop/supersuit-fantasy-pack ==> this is an add-on for Genesis supersuit but includes a lot of great shader presets (the supersuit and its various add-ons are IMO worth getting just for those shaders even if you never intend to use the suit itself).
https://www.daz3d.com/aelflaed-s-fancy-shaders-for-ds-and-poser ==> fabric and leather
https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/pd-metals-daz-studio-shaders/106810/ ==> various metals including chainmail
Okay, got some good lookin's, but... need a high neck sleeveless undershirt. by sleeveless, i mean like a wide shouldered tank top./mguscle shirt for females.
I autofit the old V4 bodysuit to newer figures for that and hide the material zones I don't need then add the shaders I do need.
Take a look at this

*sigh* Helfish Studios used to have a rogue armor set on Xurge which sounds rather like what you are looking for. It was for Genesis 1. And all of the HFS products that were on Xurge are gone now. Plus, being that old, I don't think that they are likely to be anywhere else, either.
Now, mind you there may still be something on Xurge which would match the description, but those would all be for gen4.
On the other hand, Deecey on Rendo just released an outfit called Winter Adventurer which sounds right up the right alley. It just came out this week and is for G8F. I don't know about the matt zones, but they look like they could probably be adjusted to one's taste with shaders.
Part of the trick with light armor is that you generally want something like bracers for the arms, but getting ones to fit over sleeves is a hassle, unless they are part of the set. Sometimes, you end up fitting them onto the character's arms and then using the geometry editor to separate the visible skin into a zone that you can add a shader to.
