Well, we have a leak on the 2990x's price...

That would be sweet if it pans out as true!

smiley Yes, that is really good, but at that price it is expensive enough for me to wait to see if such a thing as a 128 or 256 core threadripper @200 Watts or less comes about and have a animation capable renderer in only one desktop PC.

...that is still 800$ less than the single socket 32 core Epyc CPU which has a lower base clock. Indeed if true something to save the zlotys for.

At the suggested (Euro) price, if said pricing holds true, the most important thing to note is that it's almost $500 cheaper than Intel's current top end HEDT processor,  i9-7980Xe (around 2000 euros), which has only 18 cores, versus the 32 cores on the 2990x.  And also 16 less PCIe lanes... (44 vs 60 available PCIe on TR2).

Of course, Intel COULD drop their price to match... but coming up with another 16 PCIe lanes is another story.

I'm not saying it's bad, and either way at that price, it's something to save for and wait for though too, because these new Ryzen/Threadripper CPUs are only in their 2nd generation and the intel i-Core are what? 9 Generations in now? It's pretty exciting to think a 200 Watt or less 200 core CPU that I could afford is a definately possibility in the not too distant future.

By all means if I had the money I wouldn't wait but since saving that much will take time anyway in my case well I'll see what's they when I save enough.

In a related note, several people have noted that first gen Threadripper prices have dropped significantly lately.  I saw a 1950X for around $750 at Newegg.

For those that just can't wait another couple of months, well there's deals out there.  Of course, once TR2 hits the market, TR1 prices may drop further...

Memory has really spiked in price though.  BTW, Anandtech did an evaluation of using higher memory speeds with 2nd Gen Ryzens with and without integrated graphics:

    https://www.anandtech.com/show/12621/memory-scaling-zen-vega-apu-2200g-2400g-ryzen

While I don't expect that people here will be seriously looking at Ryzen APUs for Daz, well if you are looking at a machine for other purposes (say something for your kids, etc.), well this might be useful info.

Nice to see AMD sponsoring racing teams again!

Yeah, at best a very small number of people here might have use for this.  Anyways, if 2 EPYC CPUs aren't enough for ya, how about 8?

    https://www.servethehome.com/new-gigabyte-h261-z60-4-node-2u-amd-epyc-server/

256 cores/512 threads in CPU only mode might actually be able to keep up with most of the Iray offerings... of course, you'd have to sell the house to afford it, and then there's the whole software implementation headache...  Anyways, just feeding the 'core envy' thing...

Nice but I see from my CPU rendertimes I would have more than I need with 256 CPU cores which makes me curious well when you have a desktop computer with 256 cores and it's already more than you need I guess they then only sell to businesses and governments. Computing hardware is reaching a plateau that finally will exceed most use cases for software after decades of lagging way behind softwares' needs. Software will need to be much improved to utilize such computting power.

It would appear that 13 August is the big day for 24 core and 32 core Threadripper II's!!!

Lol, I'm not even done with my Ryzen 7 x1800 build yet (Waiting on my Win 10 pro come friday...) the reason I never got a thread ripper is due to the skyrocketing price of the MoBo/Ram I needed in order to justify it's purchase!
