Looks good, Joepingleton. I have abandoned LAMH long time ago, so no go for me.

There are over 300 recognized dog breeds. Maybe give the PAs some slack to cover more ground. ;)

Or not. The original Classic Canine's bundle which came out relatively concurrently with the Millenium Dog contained 2 bully morphs and textures. In this current mode of sky rocketing prices and little to no regard for anything other than "Will this make me the most possible money", I'm going to go on record and say I wanted this and I didn't buy it. Why? Becuase there wasn't a bundle. Because the options were weak. Because there wasn't a single one with LAMH support. This was a poorly thought out release, but that seems par for the course of late. I don't know what the management is thinking, but its gone pretty far south from where I am and have been. That makes it difficult for me to be ok with spending my money for things that I'm not convinced I am going to use.

I know. I was so on the fence with this dog, but caved in. I thought maybe the Victoria Birthday sale cut off the dog products prematurely. I'm hoping they do come out with more breeds and furs  And the build your own bundle thing ended up more expensive than a pro bundle and had no freebie extras like other big Daz O intro products. I do like the dog, but it is VERY limited at this time...Really hope some PAs pick up the slack and make good morph packs  and extra textures and LAMH presets...

LAMH fur looks great, but I'm hoping for a future better hair solution than LAMH. LAMH has never been very usable in Iray, in my opinion. Catalyzer only works for a limited number or products sold in the store. It is still very resource intensive. The Fiber hair or OBJ conversion of non-Catalyzer LAMH hairs is cumbersome, error prone, slow, and also a big resource hog. The LAMH plugin has errors that cause it to crash a lot. It never gets updated or fixed. Some people get some useful results out of it; I don't. We need a better hair/fur solution, I think.

I any one working on a fox? Since this seems to be a Family: Canidae mesh it should work.

There was a "build your own" bundle, something people regularly ask for with the human Name # sets.

I bought the Dog 8 but that was it. Only because it was like $9 instead of the MSRP list I think of $24.95. For any non-dog or non-cat owners, any dog is a generic dog no matter the breed. You need a 'dog' for a scene & anyone of them will qualify, so Dog 8 and nothing else (unless later it's some dirt cheap bundle or freebie with purchase bundle). Same with the Cat 8 when it comes out.

I liked the buy 5 for a discount, build your own bundle idea. I wasn't stuck with any things that I didn't want. I hope to see more products sold this way. It was great!

My opinions are my own and not necessarily reflective of anyone else's. I only related how I felt about it as a long time customer and significant consumer of content.

I have personally never asked for a "build my own" bundle, but if I did I would expect it to be relative in pricing reduction to a similar "official bundle" -- as someone else has pointed out, it was not in this case.

LAMH is not perfect, but it is what we have at the moment, and it can generally be used to produce some excellent results if there is a preset built by someone with the skill, patience and stable build to do it.

I liked the "build your own bundle". I usually don't buy Bundles because of items I don't need or like.

So for me it was great.

BUT I think we need a way to get fur on the dog (and other animals) that work in Iray.

Thank you everyone for your kindness and for sharing your inspirational images.

I couldn't resist trying my custom "Look at My Hair " preset on the "French Bulldog for Daz Dog 8" in DAZ Studio and Iray.  It's a little more fluffy than a real bulldog, but I liked his little beard.  I also threw in "Wolf 2.0 by AM" using "LAMH 2 Iray Catalyzer" for inspiration on what the possibilities a pro could do with Dog 8 if we are so lucky to get some dogs from AM. :)

I agree that we need a better solution than LAMH for fur.  LAMH works great for 3Delight, but is a pain to use for Iray. LAMH 2 Iray Catalyzer makes using fur in Iray so much easier, but it still only works on AM's animals.  I like the fibermesh hair for "Benji The Puppy HD for Daz Dog 8", but it's a little too short.  Hopefully we will get some fluffy dogs soon.

Looks good and would be a good start for a schnauzer or similarlar dog

That's how I saw the bundle on the dog, and I greatly appreciated being able to build the bundle the way I wanted, with all the addons I wanted, but none of the ones I didn't. I was very happy with everything associated with the Dog 8 sale, and wound up buying more than I probably should have.

I thought it would be fun to share my LAMH preset, so other people could try it out.  It is very crude, but maybe some one could improve upon my mistakes.  Let me know if you experience any problems with it, or make any improvements. :)

I wait until I have the scene the way I want it, "SAVE" then use "to OBJ" from the LAMH plug-in, wait until it's done converting and then render. I always delete the OBJ afterwards because it takes forever to save the file with the OBJ in the scene. Most of the time I also convert the LAMH OBJ material to "Iray Uber Base" and turn down the glossiness.

I usually group everything in the scene so that I can hide them seperately.  That way I can preview just the hair and dog before render if I need to in the standard Iray preview.  I also found that turning the "SubD level" on Dog8 down to 1 speeds things up dramatically.  You can also reduce number in the hair quality to speed up previewing.  I just picked 600,000 because it was a trade off between quality and speed, more hairs will give better quality but really increase conversion time.  You might be able to get away with less hairs.

PS I forgot to mention, don't group the LAMH group. Leave it seperate like the way it gets generated, it crashes DAZ everytime I try to group it.

I see there is a female morph for the dog and a neutered morph.  I never really took the time to look at a male dogs back end to see if they were neutered or not.  o.0

So basically the Dog 8 is either male or female, but without morphs it is male?

I combined the breeds to make this dog. I used a diffuse overlay weight map for the white patch on the chest. I was trying to make a pitbull kind of dog, but I'm not a dog owner, so don't be too harsh on me for lack of accuracy, please. wink We'll just call him a mutt. The wall and floor textures come from TextureHaven. Lighting is Sun-Sky. I continue to have fun with Dog 8.

Having owned a pitbull, I'd say you got pretty close.  The snout should be a little longer (or a little less tall) and the head shape should be a little flatter on top, and the face-on shape of the head is a bit more trapezoidal (with the narrower edge on the bottom).  There's plenty of reference photos.  But it's DAMN close.  :-)

And they are WONDERFUL dogs.  Very loyal, very protective, and very friendly.  The breed's bad reputation is completely undeserved.
