Been a busy day for me.  Made a special dinner for mom's birthday, and cake.  Pooped.  Went well, everyone loved everything.  But pooped.  Going to watch the news and probably go to bed.

Help, help, there's an on-line auction this afternoon at 2.00 PM ET.  Many shiney, pretty things.  Low reserve prices.  Credit card within reach.  Help, help.

I empathise.  Yesterday I was adding a bid, then removing it several times before I caved in and added a max bid, expecting to be outbid, and surprisingly I wasn't,  so I spent £25 for something I didn't really need, but was so pretty and so unusual and a collectable name and everything, plus a little bit of added history about the particular backstamp makes it quite unusual and I did want it.

So far, I've resisted the temptation to pre-bid for an on-line auction.  I'd rather spend my afternoon vegging in front of the TV or on the computer while keeping a window open on the auction, while consulting my list of items and when the item number gets close I'll zoom into the auction and get a quick adrenalin rush when my item comes up.  But then, when the price quickly zooms beyond my budget I have post high depression until the next item on my list comes up.  HOWEVER, once in a while, I have an interest in something that nobody else did beforehand or does live during the auction and my adrenalin rush turns into a cocaine rush after I've made my meager bid and it just sits there at my bid.  During that brief period of time I wonder all of the following simultaneously :

     A) am I really going to get it?   (Yea smiley)

     B) do I really want it?  (Hmmm indecision)

     C) What's it going to cost to ship it? (Sigh frown)

     D) will the auction house screw me yet again and "lose" my precious purchase because I bought for too cheap a price? (Crap angry)

I have to admit I don't think I have got enough courage for those sort of Auctions.  Too much really nice stuff, and more potential for prices to go way beyond my means.  I will continue playing with stuff like ebay for now.

Yeah, it's an emotional rollercoaster.  It takes nerves of steel, auction savvy, an addiction to adrenaline or cocaine, and a very thinly funded credit card.  Take no fat credit cards to an auction.

I'm doing OK for now.  30 minutes into the auction and they're still clearing out the religious trinkets.  They're still on item #88.  I figure about an hour or two from now they'll get down to my first item at item# 486.  I've got my eye on chances for a couple of small bronze figurines of animals, a couple of really nice semi-precious gemstone birds (a parrot on a geode, or a collection of 5 smaller misc. birds) , a couple of small beautiful blue Lapis Lazuli figurines (one of them obviously chipped so it might have limited bidders),  a couple of cinnabar boxes, and one of a few figurines of white jade (I currently have no examples of white jade).  Although I must remember I can only justify a total of about $60 + shipping.  So I'll not be too disappointed if I lose out on most of those possibilities.  I really want the gemstone parrot though and from the photo it has a broken wire leg that may limit the bidding, but that broken wire leg should be fixable (a little solder and some gold leaf) but the bird itself and the geode seem to be in perfect condition..

I'm here but only sleepily.  Stayed up late at the on-line auction waiting for my last item to come up 3rd from the last in a list of 550 items.. surprise

Complaint:  Off to the dentist again this morning to pay last months $100 cleaning visit that wasn't reimbursed by the insurance company.  And to now have an old filling removed & replaced to the tune of $200.  It's a good thing I saved all that money yesterday at the on-line auction by not winning anything after spending 12 hours on-line with them. frown

carrara 8.5 pro on sale right now!
promo mentions photometric lighting.  dunno what that means exactly
i know it refers to the ies files, but what is photometric about it

You can get standardised files with parameters for real life lights, the parameters are the characteristics ( photometrics  ) of each physical light.

My Android tablet installed a security update.  The GPS doesn't work well now.  Maybe I should clear the tablet's cache.  I should also check Daz 3D's temporary folder for old files too.
