I'm looking for a nice modern sports car, with a good interior which also has a hood and trunk that open. I've found a couple I like, but the hood or trunk does not function. I'd prefer a realistic looking car to something too zany.

I'm assuming you've already looked over Mattymanx's Lamboroghinis. Very detailed interiors, but as far as I can tell no (front) trunk opening option.

Alberto Daniel Russo's stuff has opening hoods and such (I have his 'Cuda). Interior and engine compartment details are pretty good overall, and hold up rather well in most shots. Not nearly as insanely detailed as Mattymanx's Lamboroghinis, of course. He mostly focuses on 'vintage' but has a couple of newer designs.

Might as well mention the Gull Wing/Delorean. It's pricey, and they stopped making those years ago.

Thanks I'll look at those.
Just opened up this one in Daz: I popped the trunk open. No hood option apparently.
Trying to track down who made it now. It's similar to the jp sports convertible by Daniel, but it's a Lexus.
Edit: Yeah, petty sure it's the 2003 JP convertivle by Alberto

Nice. I was surprised when I loaded the 5 non-military vehicles I own, that so few actually functioned and had hoods doors and parts which functioned. I just assumed they would... I was totally wrong!
Here's a followup render, showing the hard top removed, and the steering wheel/front wheels at full 'turn'.
The wheels do rotate as well, in case you wanted to use it in a moving animation or something...
It probably could use some iray uber shader love, and a mirror shader on the mirrors... but looks pretty good overall as long as you don't need lots of detail on the dash, center column, etc. It's $1.99 PC+, so quite the reasonable price if you are a PC+ member.
There's this one too:

The hood opens, but the engine compartment is empty... Steering Wheel and Wheels are non-poseable. It is also $1.99 PC plus though, and comes in three base colors in smart content.
Edit: Just checked again, you can turn the steering wheel and front wheels, but they are on separate controls/don't turn in tandem, and you have to dig into the 'bones' of the model to find the parameters which control these.
Same situation with the Predator: Wheels turn separately, as does steering wheel. Hood doesn't open (hood louvers do articulate though), no trunk that I can see.

This one is $1.99.
Great if orange works for you, the other colors might be too on-the-racetrack look. Hey, 2 bucks - can't beat that.
Thanks for all the cheap suggestions! HOOVER
Wow thanks. I now have a cart full of cars. I will wait to see if there are any more recommendations before checking out...
No trunk, due to being a sportscar, but utterly good looking and a freebie: The Foberghini (works nicely with DAZ and takes iray textures well, if wanted, but looks good as it is)
I always wonder why people mostly link to stuff that has to be bought, when there's so much high-quality freebies around...
I'm okay with buying a quality car. But thanks for the freebie link nonetheless. =-)
How sporty -- and how recent, for that matter -- are you looking? There are a bunch of older cars that came into the PC lately; they'll be in the Poser runtime, but as long as you don't need the native materials to do that much, shaders should be able to make them work decently.
https://www.daz3d.com/1968-am-supersport-coupe - trunk and hood open, and there's an engine, too.
https://www.daz3d.com/1971-am-muscle-car-2n1 - ditto
https://www.daz3d.com/1961-am-roadster - more ditto
Depending on what exactly you want, there are the Truform cars for Poser at Renderosity; those come into Studio just fine. Don't remember how many of them have hoods and trunks that work, or engines, for that matter.
The Forgerghini is a good example of why some of us prefer to buy Daz content...
I can't make sense of where the heck to put all the files, because it's in some folder structure that's completely different from normal Daz stuff. Frankly, it's worth spending $2 on something that plays nice with the rest of my content.
It's typical poser runtime format, create a new folder, unzip to that folder and then map that folder in DS under poser formats and there you go. I would think as long as you have been here you would be aware of the poser format system even if you didn't use it.
Any new user should be aware of both formats, especially if they plan on using freebies because there are a ton of poser freebies out there that work fine in DS
Thanks. I picked those up. Good price anyway. The car is Boyd’s. Boyd likes sporty and Owen likes retro old stuff stuff so it could be anything I suppose. Probably anything in the store would look retro by 2075 anyway except the flyin jetson stuff...
FSMC: Sure, but it didn't look like regular Poser set up, either.
Old and cheap, but it cleaned up nice! https://www.daz3d.com/fast-ferocious-tuner
(The headlamps were grouped with a lot of other stuff as 'chrome,' so I DID have to go in and separate them out to get the effect I wanted.)
Unzip the Foberghini2 zip. The top folder is 'Runtime'. Just drop that Runtime folder in either your 'My DAZ 3D Library or your 'My Library' and permit integration of the folders.
And it ends up putting stuff where no other Poser content puts it. That's basically my objection; a lot of Poser content and freebie stuff, there's no rhyme or reason to where content is put and you end up with a confused mess of a Runtime.
Maybe I'm being prissy about it, whatever. ;)
Here's a slightly different request. I find myself in need of a Buick station wagon. I found a free one. It's recognizably a Buick. Unrigged prop, but hey, free.
However, there's a good chance that I'm going to need to show it flying. It doesn't have an underside. Not even axels.
It's got a lot of matt zones, so I can turn off the flat surface on the bottom. Can anyone recommend a car model with a decent underside? I can go at it in the geometry editor and turn everything off but the underside and just try to scale and fit it into the Buick. It won't be a closeup so I can make minor fixes in port. But I need something to work from.
Hmm that’s going to be an interesting question, once tried to do a changing a tire scene and discovered how first hand the underside of vehicles weren’t quite right....
Odd, I have 20+ gigs of poser content it put files exactly there they should go for me. There are a bunch of poser freebies that don't follow the normal poser format, so myabe that is what you have experienced in the past.
I need to learn how to do that one of these days — I've been converting a bunch of old Poser-format vehicles to D|S native format recently, and it's surprising how many models have every single light-emitting surface grouped together... including the left and right indicators.
Some unexpected successes, though; e.g. the Curious Bus and Kubelwagen (from Renderosity) didn't take much tweaking to look nice in Iray.
It’s not as hard as it seems. Mostly. :)
Start with something simple... maybe I’ll do a brief walkthrough when I finish my current thing.
The Llamaghini Amenazador version 2 does have bit of an engine but the hood and trunk do not open. It does have a very detailed interior though.
Mone of my vehicles have a working trunk or hood.
If you are interested in buying the Amenazador ver2, Roadster and addon kit, the intro sale for my new droid is still in effect and will give you 60% off my whole store (and the other PAs who had a release that day) - https://www.daz3d.com/05-01-im-sorry-captain
Here's a pretty slick sports car: https://www.daz3d.com/thunderbolt. I picked it up on sale a while back for well under $10.
That looks slick. And it’s nice that it has a convertible option. I’m going to wishlist that until it goes on sale but looks good.
Just a followup on the JP2003 Sports Convertible I posted a few pics of earlier. Out of the ones that have been posted, I think that, amongst the cheap options, I like it the best. It's nice that the front wheels turn in unison with the steering wheel via a single controller, and the rearward side windows (behind the seat) can be rolled up and down via a show/hide option. And, you have a hard top and convertible option.
You were mentioning wanting to see the undercarraige?
It's not overly detailed, but it has a number of details at least. I'd probably change the exhaust textures to something darker. Note how the front wheels are getting 'chopped' by the edge of the wheel well when turned... while for the price I can't complain, if you are going to go to all of this trouble to make a model this detailed, well I'm mildly surprised that he didn't take a little extra time to address this.
There's also a 'partially removed' roof option (just hide the top, but not the rear part). Here's how that looks:
And it's (barely) a four seater Basically no leg room at all in the back though (front seats are up against the back seats), so I say that advisedly... No seat adjusters either that I can see, so you can't scoot the front seats forward. Might be good for groceries at least, but back seat passengers would be very uncomfortable... Might make a nice place for a child carrier seat, though (dunno if there's a model for that anywhere).
Anyways, you were wondering, so I took a sec to give you a better idea of how it looks.
Tht's quite a nice undercarriage, actually.
Well I went hunting through my runtime and it turned out that I had a handful of cars with at least something like an undercarriage which looked like it belonged on a car.
I finally went with a model of a '57 Chevy Bel Air convertable, which I think was from Nationale 7. (Reasonably sure, although their promo shows it in turquoise, and the model when loaded is red). The undercarriage is simplified considerably, but it has enough parts to make it look like a car.
Also has enough matt zones to turn off most of what I didn't want and couldn't use, and it was easy enough to scale it to fit the Buick's wheels. Only had to hide and delete a few polys which were in the way.
The Buick, btw, was a 3ds model which it turns out that Blender can load and export as .obj. So I finally downloaded a copy of Blender. I can see what people mean about an unhelpful interface. But the import and export buttons are there if you hunt for them.
