Load Medusa then add the Ghost Ship props by double clicking each one with Medusa selected. The sails have two versions, furled or not, so you can pick and choose which ones you want out of the way for better camera angles. The other bits and pieces go into the appropriate places. Several (anchors, flags, and the jib) do not parent to Medusa, so just drag them in the scene pane to the same level as those that did.
As for P4 vs. PP, I don't see any difference in the material settings. Medusa itself has a P6 version that isn't as glossy as the P4 (?, it doesn't specify). You might need to tweak some settings anyway.
...and it looks fabulous in Iray just letting it default. Some of the brass bits could be better, but shouldn't take much to get the right look.
PP usually the safer choice as Poser 4 and 6 often used material files
Yep. And you can safely delete the unwanted (eg: P4) files from your runtime, with no problems.
THe main difference between P4 and PP with older files is the Poser 4 still used the old .bum format for bump mats whereas the first ever PP changed to using jpg bump maps. If anyone remembers back that far they will recall that the .bum files were rather large in pixel size, and had to be generated by poser from the tex file.
So don't just ge deleting P4 files willy nilly, as you may find yourself losing the textures for older products. only delete them if there is a clear alternative offered.
the parts that dont parent?
woes
thanks
Taken from the instructions above.
The main part of the Medusa is found under characters/figures, I loaded the main figure from the Medusa (not P6) folder. There doesn't appear to be a preset loading it with the Ghost Ship textures already.
Went to the Raw-GhostShip folder under poses, then applied the PP mats.
Went to props, where there are props with the ghost ship materials already applied in the Raw-GhostShip-PP folder. Loaded the props and all the open versions of the sails.
The sails parent in place, the rest of the stuff on the deck did not, but you can parent all of those under the main body of the ship it looks like, you don't have to go hunting for specific bones on the ship to parent it to, so you can select all the props and drag and drop them at once when loaded.
Selected all that and all surfaces and applied the iray uber default material that comes with Studio.

Out of the box with just the base material applied I think it turned out well. If I were doing more close ups, I would spend a little more time on the surfaces (you can see the cannons in particular here look a bit shiny or like plastic), but if you have any iray shader presets for basic construction materials it should be pretty easy to take this up a notch.
Just wanted to give you an idea of what it looks like. Didn't take long at all either, pretty easy once you know what folders to look for.
wow...that is a WAY BACK product.
So glad to see it is getting some more life. I always thought it was a cool set.
