Really I did pretty good this year I kept it under a $100 spending for the whole month :) easy to do when you aren't purchasing genesis 3 or 8 products though.
..that used to happen to me, but having been around here for about a decade and now on an extremely tight budget that makes me look like a "high roller" in years past, my purchasing has fallen off with a *thud*.
I under stand where ya coming from KK . I just stop buying products that I have already a lot of similar content of "just because its new does not make it better. its just new." . I have tons of v4, m4, genesis and genesis 2 characters which actually work much better for my needs than g3/8, and are already bought and paid for so it be silly to by new content of the rehashed old content. I mean really how many characters does one need in their content drives when they all start looking the same then thats enough , and I don;t need any new clothing items of remakes of older clothing items I already own. which makes my spending easier. So now days I spend on props and environments if they come with both iray and 3delight mats other wise The Iray only mats products I pass on those too.
..same here on the "Iray only" stuff. yeah I know about the scripts and all, but the results still are not as good as native 3DL materials.
I don't do animation (BTW I love your work) but I like having the sensation that I'm accomplishing something. Since returning to 3DL I am finding myself enjoying this again.
Yes I guess we must be just old school daz users ..lol Don't get me wrong I love using iray. but i just can not use it in the type animation that I make because of how much content i use . like I can 3dl because of the huge demand on GPU and system ram during the rendering cycle of animations. I have a 120 gigs of cpu ram and only 12 gigs of GPU vram so cpu ram has alot more advantages for my use with daz. plus maybe its just I have more experience with 3DELIGHT But I seem to be able to customize the lighting much better as well as control how I want my shadows to look in certain animated scenes & with iray you get a more real life lighting compared to that finished fantasy type control, of lighting, plus with 3dl I can do much darker scenes with better quality @ short render times. with well places linear points of light or highlighting the Ambient mats to simulate or emulate emissive textures with a spotlight . I get much better results than iray gives in dark lite scenes at half the render time & no fireflies which dark scens with iray is nothing but fireflies unless you let your scenes render 20 minutes or more per keyframe which is just not do able when you have over 45,000 keyframes to render out for a single animated short film. I have a lot of work arounds and for some stuff will use iray but in animations 3dl is much easier to use.
So, my opinion of this year's March Madness?

X 2. I found it pretty disappointing, especially compared to what turned out to be a very impressive February. DAZ did their best to give the illusion that there was a big sale going on, but in the end there were very few "I have to have it" items compared to years past and way too many days when I couldn't take advantage of the sales that were there because I didn't want enough of the items you had to buy to get the discounts. Not having the separate sales promotions overlap for several days as they have in previous days was a really bad call as well, and the result was that this was the first year since I joined DAZ where I ended up spending less than previous years. Ollie was the final stumble at the end... I actually would have bought him except I wasn't really impressed by anything in his pro bundle and the buy in deal seemed incredibly weak and half-hearted compared to the content bonanzas that were offered for Feb's Alexandra and Edward deals... in fact, a full quarter of my purchases this month were due to a last minute pickup of Edward goodies rather than any products that came out for MM. At least we got Aiko 8, but even there I was surprised at how little vendor support there was for her compared to years past.
So, yeah. meh.
I just got a thank you card from my Credit Card for not buying anything during March madness ...
I got myself a few nice items, all in all, even if I didn't jump up the G8 wagon (except for Ollie and Edward). Some of the vendors really outdid themselves!
As for the prices... yeah, well... dropping winnings will make them look for different strategies. One half complains about "too complicated sales", the other half wants "better stackings (which means more complicated sales)... and then, there's the groups who don't by X or Z content, and go away disappointed because no new content for their needs is released.
What I think about that? MEH.
I was blown away by Edo that came in the last days and managed to get quite a discount on it. Then there were some amazing props and an easter egg of a few HDRI's and other things that I really liked. But there were no huge discounts, no 'madness' so to speak. And very few things of the drumroll kind.
And as usual there were very little male content and those there were, seemed lacklustre and half-hearted.
And I still want a new cat and dog.
A happy wallet; although, I've not spent that much, but more than I was expecting due to Aiko 8 and Ollie 8 - Ollie especially - rocks :)
More stuff to use for projects. Thanks to the V4 stack up sale. I can't buy those at 50% off price mark. My product library is now 29 pages. That was the best part of MM...Hoping for more deep discounts in the future, like 80 % from Sugatak, Polish, First Bastion, Stonemason, AM, Faveral, Mec4D, and Andrey Pestryakov.
Sums it up pretty much perfectly. I kept holding onto my money thinking "well, eventually they have to do something to justify calling it March Madness", but this March wasn't just a letdown compared to previous MMs, it's been a huge letdown compared to the previous regular months... and the malaise continues as we're now in the third day in a row of the exact same set of "newly mad" items. I barely managed to find three that held my interest on Day one, and I'm certainly not going to buy items I'll never use to get 3 to four DAZ originals for "free" when those DOs cost significantly less.
Glad it worked out for you. As someone with a 260 page product library, I'm personally finding it to be getting harder and harder to mine any gold from the older back catalog, especially from the pre-genesis 2 generations.
