Imagine if you will a computer that is an absolute beast of a machine.. Well imagine no more the video below show cases this machine and yes it is enterprise/workstation level hardware but yummy non the less..

What is in this beast of a machine is:

2x Intel Xeon Platinum 8180 28 Core Cpu's

Asus WS C621E Sage motherboard

384 Gig of 2666 Kingston DDR4 ram in 6 channel mode per CPU

Yes would a sweet machine for any rendering be it Cycles, Iray, 3DL and any other renderer out there, The machine is tested with Cinebench R15 and well it was insane to say the least, eitherway imagine what one could do with power like this..

...interesting, 112 processor threads. That is more than Carrara supports for rendering. 384 GB?  Well for doing super large format  renders at ultra high quality for gallery level prints, that might come in handy.

OK that's 20,600$ just for the two CPUs 5,600$ for the memory, Lets say for grins 700$ for the MB (not commercially available yet).  Throw in another say, 2,500 on SSDs, big HDDs, a PSU, Case & such and it comes to a grand total of (carry the two...) about 29,000$ (sans GPUs).  Oh, and you'll probably want a rock solid UPS to protect it.

Didn't win the Lotto Monday night though.

Anyway, Otoy is about to make needing such beasts unnecessary with Octane 4.  20$ per month (there is also a free tier) for out of core rendering, so no need for even an expensive high VRAM GPU or boatloads of memory, as well as not having to pony up about 600$ up front for the engine and a plugin (actually you get access to several plugins with the paid subscription).
