"converting them to FBX in MB before importing to DS"

Seriously ??...Daz FBX importer is rubbish..

are you using Brian Steagles Duf workaround??  Please elaborate.

I followed Daz's tutorial on youtube   I thought everyone was using this now.  It works perfectly for me.  Of course, I don't do this often, I use Maya but when I needed to do it, it  worked.

*EDIT* - I just realized, I am doing mocap.  Maybe it's different with keyframe animation.

    drzap,

Are you serious? MB costs over $1600.00 a year. I can't afford that.

Are you doing commercial work?  If not, just get the Autodesk student package.  It's free for 2 licenses for 3 years.

drzap.........What's in the fine print? Do they need Home address, email, phone number, Student ID. They get something for their efforts, like a good portion of personal information? I'm generally skeptical about how much info that I am sharing with DAZ much less some huge outfit like Autodesk. Is a connection required to run MB or can it run offline? Its kinda the reason why I shy away from Unity, they use to offer downloads without registration, but now I fear they all have a back door some how....lol.

Not all  free third party BVH files are worth
    clean up effort
That is the reality in my experience.
Motionbulder will do no better job of retargting them
    within motionbuilder than
Iclone will do within 3DX change pipeline.
Both apps will retarget perfectly as long as you stay within those environments.

I personally am willing to move My meshes only in a format that retains the

    Daz Genesis mesh fidelity.

That is from Daz studio to C4D as /obj/MDD to render with full SubD  fidelity, fiber mesh hair, veins wrinkles,Cellulite even optitex cloth simulation.
I  am  quite happy to move  character Motion Data between applications many times as I harvest data from mutiple sources
Iclone,Natural motions Endorphin, lipsinc from Mimic 3 pro. even the vestigial poser physics

In the end there is a fully functional genesis sitting in Daz studio waiting to accept motion data and be  .obj/MDD exported to C4D where I perform all of my professinal  camera work lighting and rendering.

To my mind, sending FBX rigs all over creation to render them
is more tedious work getting the figures appearance back to a viable
state before the final lighting& rendering starts.

    To each their own  however.

It is very easy.  Too easy.  They ask for your school name.  I was signed up for online training at the time (something like Pluralsight), so i wrote that.  Their database didn't recognize the school, so they allowed me to update their records (LOL!).  A few minutes later, they sent me the link for download and two licenses for fully functional software.  Of course they ask your email, who doesn't?  I don't believe they asked for my phone number.   Anyways, if you don't think it is worth it to play with multi-thousand dollar professional software, that's your call.

Who said anything about rigs?  There are FBX motion files just like there are BVH.  FBX is superior because you can pack many motion files in one FBX, whereas I have only seen BVH files containing single takes.  I can do all my mocap takes, put them in an FBX file and transfer them to the rig of my choice.  Using BVH, I would have have to do it one at a time.

This is not different from what I do with Iclone pro pipeline
I can bring in motion from various sources: Endorphin rag doll BVH,
Kinect & other devices, My Imotion library etc.
and combine them into one motion clip in Iclone and retarget
it to any Daz genesis,Max Biped 1-2,Maya human IK figure in Iclone and export the custom BVH.

Technically this harvesting of multiple motion sources
is possible in Daz aniMate2 .

Ah, this is how you get around the bvh limitation.   I guess everyone has their own method.

Kevin I touched base with MCJCasual himself about pinmedown. He says it is only intended for walk cycles. It does not lend itself to animations with several foot lifts, spinning, jumping things a sing does throughout a song. I stated earlier that this was the type of animation I am doing, from a BVH. I have tried the script , all it does is plant one foot for the duration of the animation. If you try to apply to other foot it will plant, but then the other foot goes back to its normal motion.
