Michael 4 for Genesis 2 Male - Any Feedback on Autofitting?

Just wanted to see if anyone could provide some quick feedback on this product.

https://www.daz3d.com/michael-4-for-genesis-2-male

I researched the forums here and the threads I found mostly discussed issues with the UV mapping aspect of the product.  I'm doing a lot of kitbashing at the moment and wanted some feedback on how well this works on the autofitting.  I'm especially needing it for full body clothing such as coats, dusters, etc.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I bought it long ago and used it a few times. It works. And if you are only going to go as high as Genesis 2 the best deal.

If you want to convert to G2M & newer versions as well, a more expensive alternative that lets you convert M4 textures to Genisis 2 Male, Genesis 3 Male (and due to compatibility to Genesis 8 Male) is the Texture Transformer by Blacksmith over at Renderosity.

Its not just a autofit. its also a skin exchanger , so you can use M4 character skins on  genesis2 character ( it works on genesis but not the uvs).  So Yes!  it works great if thats what you intend to use it for. I use it all the time. , and so does the v4 for genesis2f . But as nonesuch00 said it only works for genesis2m/f and genesis if you manually put in the uv maps. and you will need to apply the included UV's manually for genesis, once you apply the script it will tell you so  will need to use the M4 uv  which are included, thats why i mentoined it so you don't think something is broken

also if you want to use m4 shapes you might want to get the legacy shapes for genesi2 as well .

  • Thanks for the feedback!  I'm only needing it for the autofitting, not the UV mapping.  I have a group of characters I'm working with that are all G2 and need as many clothing options for kitbashing as I can find, hence I'm digging back into my old M4V4 runtimes.

For autofitting you are supposed to need such a product at all. You do this:

    1) Load M4, fit the clothing you want to use to M4.

    2) Load Genesis - on M4 for each clothing piece by clothing, LMB select it in the Scene tab,  right click and Fit to... and then select the Genesis character

    3) Load Genesis 2 Male, for each clothing piece by clothing, LMB select it in the Scene tab,  right click and Fit to... and then select the Genesis 2 Male character

    4) Save each clothing piece after you adjust it to your liking with 'smoothing' and 'collision' iterations as a Wearable Preset. It will be saved as a Genesis 2 Male Wearable Preset since Genesis 2 Male is wearing it.

  • Wow, do I feel like a fool!  I had no idea this was possible (autofitting as a progression).  I just returned to DAZ last year after being gone since 2011 so I'm still not up to speed on some of these obvious things.  Thanks again!

Yes, that way is a bit different that the way autofitting products you buy out of the DAZ Store work. I think all of those work by creating an M4 clone for G8M so that the clothing will be fit to the M4 clone for G8M. I think ultimately for best utility later the fitting progressing through the generations is better & cheaper.

  • So I tried to go back as far as M3 and work forward with an M3 article of clothing but could not get it to work (primarily in the back and shoulders).  Then saw this product in the store and wondered if it was worth picking up:

I also ran into some problems working from M4 to G2 with long coats and dusters that distorted at the front bottoms (a weird curling up).  I need to learn about smoothing (any suggestions for good tutorials?) and didn't know if that was something that could fix such a problem.

    You can try SickleYield's tutorial:

I'm not surprised some parts of some clothing has problems. I often have problems with the collars, even on shirts made for the same generation as the character wearing the shirt.

The ideal with that tutorial is you completely strip the old rigging and create new rigging by transferring it directly from the character to the clothing. That is how they do it anyway before autofit ever comes into play.
