Gades for Genesis 8 male

SotoSoto Posts: 1,451

I just had to buy him right away!

Love the proportions as they are, but I think I will be mixing him with other realistic characters to see what I get.

That`s why I love extreme shapes like that, gives so much mixing options! laugh

I was surprised to see him & bought him too. Now I need to add D.Master's Billy and I already have Sakura & D.Master stylized females.

He is about 10' tall. If you have read Marvel Comic books he is like the Juggernaut, Kingpin, or the Blob.

  • Thanks for this male toon release, I just bought it instantly

    Fabulous

Will be watching this thread to see how he blends with other figures.

He reminds me of the old Warner Bros. cartoon villains...huge bodies and tiny, stubby little legs ;)

The big question: does "Gades" rhyme with "fades" or "Hades"?

  • nonesuch00nonesuch00 Posts: 18,848

But fades and Hades rhyme with each other. You mean fads?

I want to know if it's Jades (like the green stone that is often carved) or Gades (like Gates but with a soft t as d)

  • "fades" as one syllable, "Hades" as two syllables, I assume.

I would be interested to see him combined with other shapes as well, to see if this can be used as a basis at lower strengths to get a more "realistic" strongman body type. Hadn't gotten Morpheus, but this is very tempting as-is.

Oh, I forgot the educated pronunciation of Hay-dees. laugh

Think it would combine well with D.Master Billy

I would like to see how he looks mixed with one or both of the G8 orc characters.

What other pronunciation of Ha-des is there? You mean the wrong one?

Well we all know that English is just a proto-Indoeuropean language being mispronounced but do continue your lecture please.

I'd say there are quite a few different pronounciations for Hades, with the greek version being the only proper one. Hay-dees sounds funny, though, for a german like me. I'm not sure if the german pronounciation is closer to the original (greek) one. In germany it's Ha (as in HArlem) - des (as in DESperate)

And if you want some more funny language discussions, maybe start with the differences between english (GB) and english (US). Potato and tomato come to my mind.. devil

Same. I'd love to see him mixed with other G8M figures. I prefer the toon look over realism, and I feel like his proportions could add that to the other G8 Males, but it's hard to tell for sure. Has anyone picked him up yet? How well does he mix with the other figures?

I picked him right away, to be honest, it doesn’t mix as I expected because the stomach is so huuuuuuge and the legs so small that I have to use a very low value to compensate for it, so the character gets lost.

I’m not saying it doesn’t allow for interesting combinations, just that I was expecting something different. Still the character is pretty good and totally worth it. I love it and hope to create something for him in a future. :)

Henry Higgins.  Or Harold Hill, but I don't think he said much about the language aside from spelling Trouble with a capital T (and that rhymes with P).

Love Gades! This is about one third of Gades dialled in with some other morph mixing. I like his bulk, but yeah the upper versus lower body scaling definitely makes any mixed character look stylized.

Well I think you did a great job there. I think it's on the borderline between realistic and stylized, which is a good place to be for a lot of art, especially fantasy art, of course.

I hope Hellboy will be encouraged by this as he does amazing renders and I'd really like to see what he can do with this character. I really enjoy "repurposing" characters and assets to use them in ways that the creator did not perhaps envisage.

Definitely mixes great with monstaers/creatures. The belly bothers me personally on human characters because it`s always very big, so it takes over. The proportions of the legs gives it a cartoon feel, which I like. I mostly bought him because I`d like a thick not fat/not muscular character, and his arms and face was around what I wanted... but of course the character is very fat, so it`s not it`s fault lol.

A custom morph to dial back a little the torso would be helpful and not hard to do. I`ll try to get the time for it, because I love the character.

So, got this and then travelled for a week for work, but got back and was able to try him out.

I had Gades and 25%, then used morphs to lengthen his legs (not sure if those are in the base body morph packs or some other morph set for G8M), and scaled him down a bit to G8M height. Dialed in another character face, one of the Shimizu head morphs I believe, to "sharpen" up the features a bit. G8M without any body morphs for comparison, Salvatore skin on both. Could definitely spend a little more time refining proportions, but overall happy with having him as another body type, even for less stylized characters.

I'm having problems when Gades is set to less than 100%, when using the Eyes up-down or side to side dials the eyes go all over the place, is anyone else seeing this?

It doesn't happen on my copy of Gades

Thanks, I've tried unistalling and reinstalling but that hasn't helped, if I can't fix it he's a bit useless to me.

I've had this issue with the morphs made at another store by another pa. These instructions she wrote corrected the issue

Ok. figured out your issue :), when i made the morph the bone placement was reset to ensure that your poses etc worked correctly, as you are only applying partial morphs the bone movement for the model is not fully complete, hence the weirdness with the side to side eye movement. if you want to use this as a partial you can easily fix this by doing the following.

From the point you have all your morphs as above Click the following

    • Tools -> Joint Editor Right Click anywhere in space on your view to bring up the menu
    • Edit -> Adjust rigging to shape

Everything should automatically have a check in the box in the (Bones to Adjust) Also tick the 3 at the bottom, Adjust Center Points,End Points and Orientation

    Accept and it works fine.

Thanks that does seem to solve the problem, but if I alter the Gades dial then I have to do it all over again rather annoying. I don't think I have any other morphs that require this. Its a bit short sited of a PA to think that the morph will only be used at 100%; part of the beauty of the Genesis figures is the ability to mix.

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,704

Yeah, I ended up not using the character I bought that had this issue. The point of parameter dials is the ability to use partials. Glad to help, but I agree this shouldn't be neccessary.

  • Thanks for the tip on that, like you both said, annoying, but easy enough to fix once I have everything else morphed. At least I know to expect to have to do that when using Gades at partial strength.
