HELP - display issue with new laptop and DS

I just got a new laptop today and installed DS 4.10.0.123 on it.  When I opened it, the grid on the viewport is a mess of lines, and if I move the camera around, the viewport just becomes one big glob of white lines.  I've never owned a laptop in my life, so I'm lost and plus it's Win10 which is also new to me.

HP Envy 17t, Windows 10 Home, i7 8550U,16GB Ram, Nvidia GeForce MX 150 dedicated GDDR5 4GB. My screen res is set for 1920x1080 which is as high as it goes. Nvidia driver version 388.16.

Everything is up to date when we checked for drivers and updates.  Here is a screenshot of how the DS viewport looked.

  • I ran into this once after I bought my MSI Apache Pro. Can you right click on the desktop icon and see if it offers you the option to run the program on more than one video card? If so, try using the nVidia card, as I suspect the computer may be trying to use the Intel chipsets instead and that driver is what's causing the problem.

    Have you the viewport set to iRay Preview? Try changing it to openGL textured preview if so.

    Ok that worked.  I set DS for the Nvidia card and now it looks normal, thank you so much.

    Now I can't get the viewport to show the floor grid and all of the stuff in the top corners is gone.  I can't figure out how to get the viewport to show the camera and all the other things that go with it, and the little thing with the lines at the top is missing so I can't change the draw setting for the viewport.

    Also it went into full screen mode and I couldn't figure out how to get out of it so I did a CAD to shut down the program.  Feeling so stupid all of a sudden.  Never had these problems on my desktop.

    I specifically got the laptop so I could have a second computer to run DS and now it's not working out.  I've uninstalled it because I can't get the viewport to look right and to show the drop down for all the draw settings, cameras and the other stuff.  I have tried and don't know what to do.

    I set DS to use the Nvidia card for graphics, but I just can't get the viewport to work and to look right.

    Feeling pretty deflated now since it's the reason I wanted the laptop in the first place.

    Well, I've unistalled DS for the 3rd time on my brand new laptop.  Is there anyone who knows why DS won't display correctly on an Nvidia GeForce MX 150?  I have it set as the default graphics card but the viewport won't display correctly.  It won't show any of the toolbars, and on one install it wouldn't even display the tools on the toolbar.  In the viewport, none of the draw tools will show, the camera won't show, and the only way these things will show is if I get rid of the panes on the Rt side of the screen. If I try to change the size of the viewport at all, everything disappears and the display has issues.

    I'm feeling like I just wasted a lot of money on a computer that I bought just to have something to use for DS when I don't feel well enough to sit up at my desktop.  This is the only one I could afford that had a 4GB graphics card.  I couldn't afford anything with a 6 or 8 GB card, so I was really counting on this.  Now I might have to just send it back unless someone can help me figure this out.

    Go to Nvidia web site and download your driver from there.The one you get from Microsoft update is missing opengl,the intel 620 integrated driver most likely does have opengl, so thats why it works and the nvidia card dosen't.

    If you've done that already,and it still dosen't work, then it would help to post the output of your log from studio so it's easier to see what's going on and try to help out.

    please attach the log to your post as they can get a bit lengthy and copy pasting them into a post can get a bit unwieldy

    So, you should go and get the latest video drivers from both Intel and Nvidia.  The Windows Update published drivers are garbage.

    Bear with it!  (Re-)Install Daz Studio and, as much of a pain as it may be, do things oen-by-one.  Update one driver, start DS, test it.  If it works, fine.  If not, shut DS, update the other driver, etc.  Not that it's any bonus but I have never had an issue running DS on any Windows laptop (from, recently, 7 to 10).  It may take a little time and effort, but you will get there!

    I hope it get to working.  I only have 30 days to return it to HP if it doesn't.  I ordered it from their website.

    Still haven't gotten rid of the issue with my viewport display when trying to resize it.  I even imported my layout settings from my desktop to the laptop to see if that would work and no, it didn't.

    So now I'm confused.  If it says GLEW 1.9.0 at the top, and 'Open GL Version 4.6.0 at the bottom, how can that be right?  I thought GLEW and Open GL were the same thing?  And does open gl have anything to do with why my viewport isn't displaying correctly?  Sorry to be such a dork, I'm NOT a computer person.

    OpenGL (and/or the driver that communicates between OpenGL, the Operating System and the graphics hardware) has everything to do with what you see (or not) in a standard Daz Studio viewport. Basically, Daz Studio sends Open Graphics Library (OpenGL) commands for the drawing it wants to do, OpenGL communicates with the OS and graphics driver which in turn communicates with the card and then the card does the drawing. If the wrong version of OpenGL or the driver for your hardware is installed (or missing), the commands are not handled correctly and you end up with a corrupted result.

    Wonder how I can ever solve that issue?  HP has absolutely no idea what DS is or does.  I've spent hours on the phone with them.  I'm terrified I'm going to have to return my laptop.  Would the bug report ppl be of any help?  I don't know what else to do.  My drivers are all current.  The support section of Win 10 says there are no updates needed.  Suggestions?

    I ended up returning the laptop.  I was tired of the viewport display issue and it couldn't be solved.  So now I'm back to just my old slow desktop and trapped here in the corner of the house in my office.  I wanted a laptop for DS so I could work in the living room or sit at the kitchen table or whatever and not be stuck here at this desk.

    I've looked at an MSI for $1599 at Best Buy, and I looked at an HP Omen for about $1200 on the HP website.  I can't even stress that I CAN'T go beyond $1500.  Not sure what to do at this point.
