    @ Filter Forge

Jane, a friend asked me if Filer Forge 6 will work with photoshop CS2 as well as being a standalone installation.

I have FF 4 and it works just fine with CS2 (32 bit) FF 6 states that it comes with both 64 and 32 bit versions. So, I suspect that FF 6 will work in CS2 BUT the 32 bit version will probably be required for CS2

    https://www.filterforge.com/features/version6/full-64-bit-support.html

We ship a 32-bit and a 64-bit version in a single installer: both will be installed on a 64-bit OS. You may still need the 32-bit version to use Filter Forge as a plugin under an old 32-bit host application. There are no functional differences between the 32-bit and 64-bit Filter Forge versions.

  • Is it just me, or are the normal maps from Filter Forge coming out backwards to the ones DS uses?  (In other words, inverting the green channel is needed - easy enough).  Is there a way in program to reverse that or do I need to use GIMP?

    Tools>Options>Rendering>Normal map generation>OpenGL

    Awesome - thanks :)

@ Filter Forge, if we buy FF 6 today and FF 7 comes out next week or next month, what is the upgrade price likely to be?

    Here's a little something I'm working on.

The wheelbarrow and shovel are from Daz, but the house is my own model (needs a bit of work but it's just a test) textured using Filter Forge (and the ground is a plane textured with Filter Forge too).

Bricks, Wood, Roof tiles, concrete and ground are all made with FF filters (adjusted in program to suit - added a concrete photo of mine to the brickwork for variety).

I need a bit of practice with it, but I'm loving the program so far smileyyes

  • Well I bought Filter Forge 6.0 while it was still on sale here.  I downloaded manually and installed and my key number worked fine...however when I try to connect to the library, same deal as loading their wensite, it will not work in any browser.  Here is what they all say after the multiple "performing TSL handshakes" fails...... "secure connection failed....the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading...the page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.  Please contact the website owners to inform them of this probelm."  I tried but it will not connect to filter forge to let me send them an email.  Does anyone have any idea whats going on.  Is it some dang windows 10 setting.  The funny thing is, Filter Forge is the only website this happens on.

  • This is something wrong with your internet or firewall settings almost definitely. Are you running a VPN?

I have no idea.  I spent a little over 4 hours yesterday afternoon trying everything I could think of.  Like I said, Filter Forge is the only website it does this on.  I managed to get a work around to get their site to load.  When I am going to use filter forge I have to load my Kasper Sky Secure Connection software.  If i run their website through it, it loads.  Microsoft said it sounded like the website security protocols were outdated.  I have no idea but at least it finally works  YAY!!!!

When I try and download a filter from the library I get " to open library filters you must have a newer version of filter forge installed"  and it asks me if I want to upgrade. I bought the 6 version from here.

OK fixed my issue by reading the bug fixes on their forums. I turned on automatic updates and the next time it told me I didn't have the newest version it auto updated and then downloaded the texture. - just in case anyone else is having the same issues. :)

    Hi Jane,

When will FF 7 be hitting?

It's HERE!!!!    Just got my email this morning.   kiss

Edit: Well, here as in at Filter Forge's website...not here as in DAZ website.

Just a little FYI for anyone else with lifetime upgrades or running a beta turning it into a purchase copy of FF 7...you'll probably need to download a fresh installer to get your key to work.  (I tried my new FF 7 key on a beta copy and got an invalid key error. I downloaded a fresh copy and key was accepted.)

How much better is FF 7 Pro than FF 6 Pro? Is it really worth the upgrade price?

Will it work with Windows 7 (64 bit) and 32 bit Photoshop CS2?

FF is currently selling at 75% off, at least for some regions.

The System requirements say it will run on Windows 7 64 bit. The CS2 plug-in part is a no. You'll have to run it in as a stand alone application. The plug in option is only available in Photoshop in CC and above. I run Photoshop CS5 and don't regret not having a plug-in option. IMHO, you're not missing much as I've always found Filter Forge to be faster and more stable when run as a stand alone application.

I haven't played with it enough to give you a review on how worthwhile the upgrade is at this time. I do have to say the features just from reading look really sweet. The  "easy export" feature alone seems pretty golden to me.

Attached snips of system requirement and supported hosts.

One thing I really love about 6 & 7 is the built in filter for making really good Normal Maps.  The Emboss filter can make a really nice displacement or bump map as well and with some fiddling you can create specular and glossy maps. You can save out your tweaks and go back to them when you need them.  Now I'd love a way to save out my tweaks to my own Custom Filters area so I only have those to refer too rather than the whole stack of one filter.  I haven't had allot of time to really fiddle too much but I know I was really liking the improvements from version 6 to 7 I saw I think in a YouTube vid.

FF7 is now available in the DAZ store only a couple of months after FF6 was introduced at DAZ  Is there any chance of an upgrade price for those of us who bought FF6 Pro and have had less than 2 months use of it?

I think the store price fro FF7 beats the price I have been offered to upgrade from FF6 to FF7.

  • Hmmm, the Filter Forge website seems to be down ATM.

It took me a couple minutes to figure out how to use it.

For those who don't know how to use the serial number its like this

    User - DAZ-customer-xx

    Serial - FF60W-SBWQW-PYWQ7-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

Drop the "I" from the serial

Ahhh Thank you! I had to Google how to activate Filter Forge bought here and thankfully this thread showed up in the search and your comment, in particular, is hugely helpful! :)
