Thanks, Richard. Sadly, this news comes too late to use the PC+ item that was "still new" yesterday for a further discount. But it still is a good price.
Stupid question maybe, but Is this useful for creating new texture/shaders for clothes in DAZ? Do I still have to convert them to be Iray ready?
YAY!!! I'm glad I got it too. I've been coveting this for ages. Now I just need to rescheduled my cats' annual visit to the vet so it doesn't coincide with the major fall sales.
Causing major guilt...
Wait a minute. You are telling me that the Filter Forge 6.0 product with regular price of $99 and $49,50 after PA sale discount is the absolute same as Filter Forge 6.0 Pro which sells at $399 at their site and is currently discountet 75% to $99, right? No strings attached? Please somebody confirm again before I do crazy things.
I recall buying Filter Forge ages ago, and I used it maybe a few times, but at the time it just seemed like a procedural texture generator with some fairly uninteresting textures. So I pretty much ignored it and never used it.
So I'm trying to understand why this is any better than say Substance Painter with all of its internal textures, along with some of the available textures online. What am I missing?
Thanks.
Well, for one thing, you can take seamless tiling textures from FF and use them to create layers and triplanar projection textures in Substance Painter
Right, but you can do that with any seamless tiling textures you get online or build in PS or whatever, right? I'm guessing what FF brings to the table is more control over building your own procedural textures?
That, and a huge library of them, the ability to adjust them a bit, and complete rights.
For $60 you have full rights over hundreds if not thousands of textures, whereas online that can get a bit sketchy.
If anyone is curious about the potential textures (and filters), going to https://filterforge.com/filters/ and browsing will give you an idea. It also lets you check out what map options (Normals, bump, etc) the item may include.
Thanks, Richard. I just wish they would have put "Professional Edition" on the product name and page the way they did for FF4 in the DAZ store. Those two little words would have cleared up a lot of questions here.
Any possibility that this extra discount/offer will be repeated since there was a disrepancy as to what version FF was?
The offer is still there. FF6 (Pro?) itself is under Still New Releases. If you don't have any use for one of the new releases (which are discountert to 60% if combined with FF), the cheapest you can get is a combination with the Sky Jumper textures which add $5.23 after 65% discount (two new releases + PlatClub). That would bring the complete cart to $54.74. Again, if it's FF6 Pro it's still half the price compared to the FF-site. I'm tempted. Could always return once it turns out that it's not FF6 Pro somehow.
It's already been stated that it is Pro by us from Daz. https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/2900151/#Comment_2900151
My Licence key has just been updated and it is definately the Pro version. I'm using it now.
no matter what I put in my cart the cheapest I get on FF 6 is 49.50 which is 50% off..if you bought it as new release yesterday you would have got additional % off when buying 2 new release, is that not right?
Serial numbers now work
Cheers for the notification and thanks to Richard for the info on which version.
Edit: Also thanks to everyone else for assistance.
They're both really good, one is not necessarily better. SD is GPU-based, which you'll like, FF is CPU-based. FF can also do image effect filters which SD is not designed for. SD can output files which can be used directly and modified in realtime game engines, with FF you have to bake textures and apply them. They both have very different libraries. FF has a much bigger (completely free) one.
So I went ahead and bought it anyway, but I have FF4.0 PRO installed so will it just update it or will it be a new install and if it is a new install should version 4 be removed?
It will be a new install that runs alongside. If you no longer want FF4 you should uninstall it, but do it after, the new one will import your filters and I don't know if uninstalling will prevent that.
@Kharma: You would not have gotten it any cheaper yesterday as the standard discount is 40% going only to a 50% if you buy two products. Only thing yesterday was that maybe a cheaper second product was available.
Thanks, successfully registered the Pro edition. Glad I took the chance and bought it.
Thank you for the info, i thought there was an extra discount of 10 or 20% on new releases yesterday if you bought 2 or more just like today.
Yay! all working now :-) and definitely Pro edition!
Yay!
How do I use the serial number? when I paste it in, I get a "too long" error.
the first part up to the | is the name...the second part starting with FF goes in the second part..do not include the bar |
It took me a couple minutes to figure out how to use it.
For those who don't know how to use the serial number its like this
User - DAZ-customer-xx
Serial - FF60W-SBWQW-PYWQ7-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
Drop the "I" from the serial
Wait, what? I'm on the Filter Forge website right now and i'm seeing no such discount, and there certainly wasn't such a discount yesterday. The only discount i'm seeing is on Professional Plus (bringing it down to $628) and the "special offer" on a subscription.
EDIT: But anyway, just to clarify, it's definitely the Pro version for sale at Daz, and the serial numbers now work?
I don't see that discount on the FF website either; but I did see Filter Forge 6 Pro for sale on another standard CG website for $79
The site sale said one more day yesterday, so I assume it has now ended. The Daz price is better in any case, and yes it's the pro version and the serial number worked for me.
I just got an email from rendo where Filter Forge also appears to be on sale at $79.80.
