I just noticed something...when I get an ebot to my email about someone posting in a thread, the link to click on starts iwth https://www.daz3d.com/forums

The last one I just got was https://download.daz3d.com/forums

Is that normal for the "download" to suddenly be in there?

...hmm still have the discounts on all the G8/Steph8 stuff in teh cart.  Still really not sure about pulling the trigger.  Can't use a coupon as they are all new releases (somtimes I miss the old voucher days).

I used a coupon for my S8 Pro Bundle etc. purchase, the 10-17PlatClub (leftmost on PC+ page). It works on new stuff.

..didn't know that.  Stilll would only knock it down to 40$.  Again, have to sleep on this. So far I feel she is the best G8 sofar as she is more average in height and proportion and I think she has the best most "normal" looking face of the bunch so far.

I think Stephanie 8 is better than previous G8 base character females. In my opinion, her face is not as masculine as V7 and O8 were, and some of her promo pics looked quite nice, but there's still too much V8 in her. To be honest, all the new G8F Daz Original base characters look they are close relatives to me, and if you didn't like V8, it's really hard to like any of the other new characters.  I like S8 more than previous G8 base models, but not enough to upgrade to G8 yet.

While aesthetically I tend to prefer rounder jawlines and less prominent chins, there is nothing at all wrong with a strong jaw and prominent chin - and there are a lot of women with similar features. This BS of calling women "masculine" if they don't have perfectly round baby faces is just gross and needs to stop. You're not only insulting the artist who sculpted her, but you're insulting the women who have similar features. Just STOP.

I'll just leave these photos of lovely ladies with strong jaws and prominent chins here. :)

All these women have masculine faces. That's not an insult, just descriptive. No need to get all huffed up over it.

I'll second that. Certain facial characteristics are simply masculine and others are feminine by definition, regardless of sex, it's a fact based on scientific laws and principles.

Sorry, but NO ONE has a face like the current G8 Gen has. NO ONE. Stop the silliness. They look like zombies. And trying to equate these fictional characters to real people is really absurd.

Well I've seen many real people that looked a lot more different from the norm, to put it that way.

Seeing each new G8 character only further convinces me to keep using G7. I haven't seen one yet that was remotely appealing. They all look far more plastic than G7 ever did.

This argument has been already been given frequently, and the answer is the always the same, since G3 and G8 uses the same skins there is no reason at all for G8 to look more or less plastic than G7. You can even use the same skins/shaders on G8 and they should look identical, unless for some bizzare reason it is the shape of the mesh that is somehow making the skin render plastic!

It was the tone that made the music. The way the comments (EDIT to add: comments are now deleted) were phrased that created the upheaval weren't simply stating things about the shape, but in a very derisive matter, as if the fact that they have more masculine features makes them ugly, and they should be in the bin, when in reality, they just look like normal people (even some supermodels!), shapewise.

Wait, how do we know what zombies really look like? I need to know this! I don't pay much attention to the world outside DAZ-land and I might have missed something important.

    *

You know who this strong-jawed look would rock on, though? Monique. Ooh, and Karen. I hope they get the sculptor for these recent figures to do those.

Also, I think Xanthe is GORGEOUS and I think Stephanie 8 totally justifies her and if I had any other G8 stuff I would buy the pair of them in a heartbeat.

I don't know why Monique would be able to rock a strong jaw any better than V8, S8 or O8  Black women have round feminine faces too.

Okay, here is my Stephanie. I'm not going to quit my day job as I'm not particularly talented at rendering women, but I found I liked her skin.... I lowered her eyes considerably as they are too highly placed on her head for me.   too bad I couldn't also lower her brows... I did also give her fuller lips as I like people men and women with fuller lips.

That's a great render! Love the attitude!

Here she is in a fantasy setting:

I think the root of the complaint is the default shader settings; some people would prefer settings that don't mask the skin texture details the way they do, whereas I personally find them to be a more accurate way to show the characters.

HI, anyone else also got this problem ?

    when loading Xanthe -

when one applies the eyelashes material at last - the previously selectet makeup gets wiped of her face.

edit: and it's not EVERY ebot link. Just some. The font looks a tad different here when it's the "download" url......weird.

Here she is with Michael 8. I do find the G8 skin shaders to be way too orange and the translucency too high, especially for Stephanie 8. In these renders I used the default skins but I lowered the saturation to 0.8 in the render tone mapping settings to counteract the orange. Interestingly, to my eyes at least, Rawart's recently released vampire for G8M has very nice looking skin settings. I may have to experiment to see if they would work with other characters.

I'm wondering if her head appears large because she is so thin (classical lollipop head syndrome), as objectively comparing her proportions to available scales, her actual head size looks correct. The strong jaw further emphasises this. ETA She reminds me of Sarah Jessica Parker in this regard - long face tiny body

I don't see myself using the extreme makeups, but remember feeling the same about V7's more clownish makeups. Her petite frame is definitely a nice addition to the female gene pool though.

those are good renders very nice. Well her head looks bigger than michaels. I had to dial it down 5 percent. It is way oversized. It is the head of a giantess. To match a head that size she would be far taller.

Still has an extremely masculine face. Diversity is fine and all, but Victoria 8 and Olympia 8 are already masculine women.

Ditto. I loved that V8 had stronger features. It's the same look that I tend to dial on purpose. But S8 looks like her, O8 looks like her...they've all got that chin. So much sameface in the DAZ flagship line. I expect them to have distinctive looks. sad

Also in the first couple portraits she legitimately looks like a drag queen (yet the full body she does not). I have to wonder if the focal lengths on the camera aren't being adjusted for closeups, it can cause that same effect.

Yeah, I like the basic face shape of G8F and V8, but I don't think O8 and S8 are successful attempt to take the faces in a different direction. The earlier Olympias and Stephanies tended towards heart-shaped faces.

    Okay..

Steph 8, default shape, no expression.
Base skin, makeup 06 with eyebrows, translucency medium (that's 0.75 - still high IMO)
Select skin-lips-nails in surface tab, change transmitted color to RGB 250/210/235 (very light magenta) - This one step makes her not orange, adjust hue to taste for your light setup, the effect is strong.  If you leave her translucency at default this transmitted color will make her look too pink.

FWSA Light FX 05, Eyelight Disk
Camera focal length 135, spectral rendering off
    Shirt coming soon

Wow, that is a huge improvement on the promo images.

Yes it is but changing transmitted color to RGB 250/210/235 (very light magenta) make Stephanies skin dissolve or breakdown pixel by pixel going invisible. does anyone know why?

In render settings- environment make sure that Draw dome is set to on. There is a bug?/idiosycrasy? with the chromatic SSS that makes certain colour combinations turn the character invisible with draw dome off.

  • Seeing Steph 8 in context with a male figure makes her definitely look better. Still the don't care for the face and skin but the body is a very nice petite shape. Almost made me want to buy her to add to the gene pool. But it makes me wonder if I could get that shape using dials or morph packs and just scale G8 down? Hope there are pose packs that uses a shorter female in interactive scenes.

So, all of the models are just going to be offshoots of V8...or every other Thorne Sarsa character. Swell.

I thought the same when I saw Stephanie 8.  "Hmmm...Is that just a slight variation of V8?  Oh wait, that's a new base character..."

...actually the eighth promo pic almost reminds me of Steph4.

The Xanthe character looks the best, no pouty lips and a more contemporary if not slightly youthful look. Adding a bit of Zev0's Growing Up to her could make a better looking teen than Josie 8.  Too bad she wasn't the character included in the Starter Bundle.

So 46$ would get the following:

    Body Morphs for G8F.
    Head Morphs for G8F.
    Growing Up for G8F.
    Steph 8.
    Xanthe for S8.

Already have the base S5 and S6 figures.

Temptinmg, but still trying to save for that memory upgrade.

Xanthe is my favorite out of all the S8 related stuff.  I really wish Isource would go back to just making G8F base characters.  I like that so much more than characters with a bunch of prerequisite models and morphs.  I've passed on the last 3 Isource characters because of this.  And, I'm a big fan of their work.

Xanthe is beautiful.  But, I don't really like S8.  And, I don't own the G8F head and body morphs, yet.  I don't think I can justify spending all the money just to get one character that I like.

Interestingly, Xante's body and face morphs sppear to be slmost entirely custom. Only 5% of Stephanie 8's head and none of her body dials in when you load her. So I think she will work almost the same with or without S8 base.

Without S8 on left, with S8 on the right. Body is identical as it doesn't use S8's morph

She also doesn't appear to use the head and body morphs, only the Navel and Mouth Realism HD morphs.

I like S5 the most, because it's the most unique and DIFFERENT face of all of them. Adding in that face takes things in a new direction.

    Agreed, I like her too.
