...S5 almost looks like she's 17 or 18 years old in comparison. I never could get her to look like that without mixing in a bit of Teen Julie5 along with a bit of S4 and the NPMs via GenX, and a hint of Zev0's's Growing Up. If anything, out of the box she looked a bit more "heavy" than "petite" to me which Is why I generally used her for older (middle aged) characters.
..now that looks really good. Reminds me a bit of Billie Holiday.
I'm 69 and have gone from 6 foot 4 to 6 foot 3 and a half, FWIW.
That's an easy fix, LOL
nice renders!
Exactly. These 'Joker' mouths started with the later G3 figures (though Leo 7 was the first), but I noticed that it became worse with G8. Maybe this is what many people see as a 'male' expression in the female figures. They even gave Teen Josie 8 a bigger mouth (and a strange looking jaw). I really like my V8, and S8 seems to be fine, but it looks as if I will pass her like the rest of the G8F figures. No more 'Joker' mouths, please!
She's fantastic! Maybe I should consider Stephanie 7...
...umm Stephanie 8.
Right. OMG, kyoto kid, It's getting late...
Still not seeing why folks don't like her or the rest of the G8 DO females.
Is it just me, but something I'm noticing with the entire Gen 8 line is that the sub surface scattering on the skin almost seems to be turned up way too much, and the lips edges all seem very sharp especially nearing the corners of the mouth.
They really have gone in a different direction with this generation, haven't they? The women's features are all very angular and the men's are soft and puffy. Unfortunately for the kind of renders I do, I'm finding it really difficult to buy into this gen, but I realise that there are others who love it and it's good to have a variety.
I'm 54 and have gone from 5' 12 1/2" down to 5' 12".
(I know, I know, but I get a chuckle out of seeing people's brains spin up when I say it that way.)
I'm thinking of buying Stephanie 6 base for $15.73.
...
Greetings,
Funny...Josie 8's mouth was too small, IMO. That said, my wife's instant reaction on seeing Stephanie 8 was, 'Her head's too big.' I think she's right; I think some judicious head-shrinking, and the right lens (and none of that truly awful makeup) will make her a distinct character without looking awkward. Or, no more awkward than you'd expect from the girl-next-door.
...it's the kind of thing that makes me wonder if someone built her head without taking into account that she's petite, and so the head ended up outsized. But as a professional myself, I really find it aggravating when folks who don't know my field as well as I do make presumptions on whether I've done something right or not.
Stephanie has always had a very distinct face, and Steph 8 continues that trend. The thing about distinct faces is that not everybody's going to find them appealing, and that's okay.

I'll buy pretty much everything DAZ makes, especially figures. But I have to say that G8 has been VERY light on my pocketbook compared to previous generations. I still try/want to buy stuff... but... OMG what are they doing to these figures? It's like the face has a zombie morph dialed in at 50%. The sides of the face are just wrong. It's not a masculine look at all. It's a zombie look. I thought it was a one time thing with V8, but then Olympia and now Stephanie.
She also seems to have a serious butter face.
Lots of comments on the mouth, or jawline makes me wonder. My first thoughts on seeing Vickie 8 was "FINALLY! She can smile instead of grimace." and I really, really like the new face rigging(?) that gives a more convincingly expressive face. So I wonder if the 'weirdness' is related to this new expressive ability? Just wondering idly.
After studying steph and some of the images posted here, her head doesn't really match the body. It is really big, and fairly rawboned for the size and shape of what goes below the neck which is pretty slim and delicate. Its like the two don't match or were designed apart and put together.
+1.
I can't really understand what these complains are about, either. I mean, I see people with similar face forms every day on the street, or when I look into the mirror. Famous singer Björk has a mouth shaped similar to Steph 8.
I know that this are just polygons and maps, but reading such comments, as a female person who also has "squarish" features... um, yeah. I guess I'll just stay away from reading threads about new character releases in the future.
+1
I said it back when Victoria 8 was released and I'll repeat it as often as I have to; I actually had a female supervisor at a previous job that makes the G8 DO females look like beauty queens. They do not look male to me, when remembering mistaking her for a man the first time I saw her. Every woman is beautiful in her own unique way, even if most folks don't want to believe that.
I kind of hate the 'looks like a man' comments too. Women are so very diverse and I think some of the G8 figures look quite delicate. I do think Stephanie has a big head and Josie has a big mouth and so on, but.... real people are often pretty funny-looking, especially if you study them too closely, feature by feature.
ETA: that said, I recall so many people wishing for a Stephanie 7. I hope this experiment is going well from Daz's sales-perspective.
Exactly my thoughts. Not a single person has symmetrical features or sizes.
Yeah, all these comments are getting very annoying, and are reaching the bandwagon stage I think. I have liked all of the new models, of both genders, and have purchased the pro bundles for them because I liked the characters and the items in the bundle. I really wish they had a better bundle with Steph though, this time there just isn't enough items I would use to justify the bundle for me. With a character that may be an experiment to see if she's still wanted, hope they don't use the pro bundle sales as a metric since I doubt this one will sell all that well. I am definitely getting the base character, because, as I said, I do like her. There's just only one other item in the pro bundle that I would rate as a must buy for me, and one that is "eh, not bad". And with numbers like that, I just can't justify getting the pro bundle (and yes, I know about the other free bundles, but they all have the same issue and I've purchased what I want out of them individually over the last year)
"She doesn't look more masculine, she just looks less feminine" is approaching bandwagon levels too, IMO.
And how does "She looks like a normal person" sound?
SEriously, google female&square face, and you get tons of people, many of them models, who are having the same, or very similar face shapes. No one calls them "masculine". https://www.herinterest.com/top-50-hairstyles-for-square-faces/
-shrug-
She does.
Sorry, but NO ONE has a face like the current G8 Gen has. NO ONE. Stop the silliness. They look like zombies. And trying to equate these fictional characters to real people is really absurd.
Sure they do.
(it's even the same hairstyle please don't kill me thanks)
Most of the G8 series so far seem to be character actors rather than "Stars". Unless you only do pin-ups, this can be a good thing.
Count me as another who wasn't all that impressed with the Pro Bundle contents. The hair is nice enough, but none of the outfits are things that I think I'll ever find a use for. The poses are rather nice, at least, and the add-on characters.
I do agree that her head is too big for her body, but that's an easy fix. And the makeup is awful. But then, the makeup is usually awful. I was rather glad to see her, and having the earlier versions and their discount, it was an easy purchase.
Stephanie is one of the iconic characters, but since Genesis launched, a lot of the reason that she existed disappeared. I can't really speak for the first couple of iterations, since I never got into using gen3 or earlier. But unless you were a modeler, I don't remember there being anything like the variety of morphing packages that are available now. If you wanted anything shorter than the stock V3 you had to scale -- which was not always convincing -- so there really was a need for a smaller female who was *built* smaller. And younger. Trying to make the gen3 and gen4 characters older or younger than they came was a struggle.
Stephanie4 was pretty special. She came late in the series. V4 originally launched at the end of '06 and Stephinie4 didn't show until something like 2010. And she showcased a lot of the development which had gone on under the hood in the preceeding 3 years.
For that matter, she hit the store with enough morphs to almost count as a teaser for Genesis. She came with (or launched with) a whole group of additional subcharacter morphs which added something like half a dozen new girls to your potential runtime. And iirc, you could *mix* them. This stretched the capabilities of gen4's unimesh like very little had before. The original Stephanie's were separate figures which shared a UV with Victoria. But gen4 had collected all of the DAZ base characters into a single mesh, with only a gender split.
It was pretty revolutionary, but Genesis went back and started over from the ground up, and once it was on the ground, you didn't specifically *need* a Stephanie base to get a smaller younger female. You could morph your own, practically from day 1. Later morphing packages like the NPM morphs helped a lot, but the potential was already there.
I truly don't SEE the 'man' look. I know I joke about it, but I honestly do like the new matured, non-cookie-cutter-pretty that the figures are looking like. But that said, I am absolutely hating the skins so I'm not buying into G8 till the skins get better.
