Maybe for you. I'm 66 and haven't lost 2 inches.

Getting older actually shrinks you by about 2 inches due to disk compression, bone loss, etc.

You're lucky to remain the same height, it's very atypical.

I can see in some of the promo renders a strong jaw line which possibly is having the effect of making the face look slightly masculine, but as they say, this could be a trick of the light.

However, what I am still seeing is uniform spray on tan colouring, with no texture colour detail variation. Stephanie 8 and her other character textures all look like tailor shop dummies. I cannot, in my opinion, see one promo image that makes me think this could possibly be a real person. So for me, purchasing yet another re-run of previous characters seems doubtful.

Could the bland skin textures be due to old genesis 3 merchant resources being used for the new G8 characters?  (just a thought)

The orange look is due to (my opinion only) being a little heavy-handed with the dual lobe specular. If it's turned down just a smidge and the roughness turned up just a little the orange look fades a bit. Plus I don't care much for the SSS chromatic mode either and usually turn it back to the regular SSS (I think it's mono). Then the skin looks like what we're used to.

  • I hate to be that guy, but there is no need for any commas in this sentence: "Stephanie 8 is our petite, pop, princess!"

HER ARM IS NOT RIGHT.  When you put it in a raised or bent pose, it leaves a line and can actually crease. Doing a render now, but checked it under my go-to portrait lights, which I use on a daily basis- it is NOT THE LIGHTS.

I haven't like the face sculpts of any of the leading characters so far.... I'm wondering if they changed who models their gen 8 leading ladies and men. Their bodies are fine, but the heads....

that was my morning guess, too.  seems likely.

something's going wrong with the cart at the moment, there's a thread in the forums about it. If you've been hitting that checkout button, for goodness sakes, CHECK your orders or your credit card to make sure you havne't "purchased" her repeateldly or been charged repeatedly.

a petite character (although Ms. Gaga is 5'1", not 5'6", but in DAZ world terms, 5'6" is their version of 5'1")...

+1 on the "OMG the standard ladies are tall." wink

I laughed out loud when I saw a 5'6" character described as petite. That's 2-3" above average height for adult women in the US (depending on which source you look at). She's not petite, she's just not a supermodel.

Still, I want to buy her - except I can't seem to check out! It just keeps cycling back to my cart without letting me purchase anything. sad

Thanks - I saw that thread after this one. Apparently I did successfully purchase Stephanie 8 even though she's still in my cart. Luckily I only hit the purchase button two times - I can't check if I got double billed until the end of the day though (I guess I could call if I wasn't so lazy, but it's easier to wait until tomorrow morning and look online).

I don't know what database you get your info from, but personal experience in the US says that the average is a lot closer to 5'6" for women that are younger than the "baby boomer" generation. definitely true for women aged ~35 and under. People are getting taller.

That's according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. A quick Google search found half a dozen other sites that agreed with that. According to the same source, heights have stablized at about that level in the US over the last 50 years.  People are getting taller in many places in the world, but not in the US.

EDIT: I should correct that - the part about us not getting taller anymore is according to multiple news sources quoting the CDC - I couldn't find anything about it on the CDC's actual site.

@digitallitedesign  Looks great!  Can you pose her with her arm bent up (like her hand behind her head, or her hand behind her neck, arm raised) and see if you get a line on her upper arm?

I'd wondered that too. If it is a different person, they need to get some consultation from the old person ;). What I find to be the case with the G8 figures so far is the mouth that's way too wide, giving a sort of "Joker" expression. The corners really shouldn't go past the center of the pupil and Olympia 8 and Michael 8 especially do this. I mean, it's an easy fix, but....they should look right out of the gate ;).

Average is probably around 5'5"-5'7" BUT petite is 5'4" and below. She's certainly not petite ;).

I like her and I like the bundle. The discounts and free stuff are too good to pass up, so I'll bite. I don't think she looks too masculine, thought there are a few tomboyish renders in the promos which remind me of S3, who did look quite masculine. Glad to see a normal-sized character out, even in DAZland that's petite. (I'm 5'5" and that's quite an average height for a woman.) Playing shopping cart jenga at the moment. Lots of goodies to choose from.

Loving this promo. I think her skin looks pretty good:

It's Sshodan's Nature G3 Hair, i cannot provide the link in this forum though. :)

The hair is converted to metal, re worked via Octane to get the gold foil effect. Happy to hear you liked this effect, thank you.

She's kind of got what would be referred to as a lantern jaw....

Several posts ago I mentioned that Stephanie 8's face looked like it would lend itself well as a starting point for dialing in more unique looking characters.
Here is a dial spin morph using Stephanie 8 and the Genesis 8 Female Head Morphs and Katarina's texture

    Great image, Digital Lite Design!

Hmm, I just loaded up S8 and none of her materials show up in Smart Content. Neither do wardrobe or hair. Something is seriously wrong with that. It's not a huge deal for experienced DAZ users but might throw off some of our beginners who use it a lot. And it's inconvenient.

Looks like it was just me. Now it's updated. Something about my CMS maybe.

I also can't get her eyebrows to show up. Eyebrows don't show up in the viewport but do in the render.

I don't have S8 yet but have been enjoying the renders and pondering.  Here's S4, S5 and S6 side by side.  The same exact lighting, but they each have very different skin shaders.  The V4 Steph is an HSS shader for DS.

I thought right away that S5 (Genesis) had the most boyish face out of the box. But her omhumansurface skin next to that orange AoA Subsurface on S6 is shocking.

I finally figured out where I'd seen her face.. She's definitely inspired by Meghan Trainor.

I like S5 the most, because it's the most unique and DIFFERENT face of all of them. Adding in that face takes things in a new direction.

Here's the arm with the white band where the arm creases. In the viewport, there's definitely a crease. When rendered, it shows up as a whitish band. I didn't do any postwork on her (saturation, midtones, shadows) as over in my Art Studio thread, I had done renders of Cadence and we were comparing apples to apples with the lighting for skin tones. So not a "finished" render so to speak, I'd add a bit of blue to cool the skin. Wanted to show you that arm though.

Here's a closeup of her brows/eyes/lips. I like the bump in the lips and the fact there's not long vertical lines like some of the characters in the past couple of months. The mouth seems more realistic to me without those.

I do wish the eyes had flecks and not so many lines. There's not many good eye colors either, they're mostly ultra light so you'll have to Surface pane> darken the base color if you want darker options.

  • Something wierd happened when I was loading this into my cart--The Stephanie 8 Pro bundle was 58% off and I was promised an extra 20% because I had a previous Stephanie Pro bundle. However, when I was about to check out, I discovered the initial 58% store sale had vanished!

Fortunately, I halted my purchase before I could press the commit button. This happened just about 1345 on October 3rd, EST.

Looking at the Stephanie 8 promo pics I'm thinking 'dog'

The promo says 'Stephanie 8 is our petite, pop, princess! ' c,mon, in those promo those pictures she looks 40+

However she looks better in her natural condition, as seen in pictures promo-01 and promo-02

At least we have a browless skin this time.

But yet again we have a square jaw with sunken cheeks

The make-up options are few and gross, I will never use her 'out-of-the-box'

The skin (as far as I can see in the promo pictures) is blemish free, devoid of any 'character', I expect daz are leaving 'characters' for the PA's to sell later

It would be nice to see some lighter (western european) skins on these daz models too

Luckily I have already bought makeup and brow packs for Genesis 8, so hopefully I can turn her into something worth using

The only redeeming points are that the pro version is  $45 in my cart (with 20% discount for buying previous Stephanies, a couple of other new releases in there too) and if I add FWSA Adelaide HD for Stephanie 8   the price comes down to $37.78, the two hairstyles look useable, and Xanthe looks OK, so probaly worth buying pro.

The skin of base Stephanie resembles Gia 6 skin a lot. I haven't loaded her to see but that Orange skin and big skin creases looks like Gia 6 reborn

Stephanie 8's base, starter and pro bundles are showing at full price for me.

Completely unrelated to today's purchases, but I was having problems with checkout last night. I paid on the Paypal site, but I couldn't be redirected back to the Daz site.

I know I've said it before, but I was trying to morph G8F into my OC using my G3F OC as a reference. Except my G8F version of my OC looked very masculine. Maybe it's something to do with the base model. I managed to sort it out using an older version of my G3F OC, but the G8F version still doesn't look right. Maybe it's the fact that the G8 models are meant to be more realisitic... But, I'm not sure.

If you're getting the pro bundle for Steph 8, DO NOT forget to add the Steph 4,5, and 6 pro bundles to cart as well. During checkout, they get discounted to free. I already had #4, so i got alll of this content ( which will conform and work on G8 because of daz's awesome refitting technology ) for less than $50. Happy Friggin Birthday to me, Thanks so much DAZ :)

Here's Steph 8 with medium translucency, brow 3, no makeup. I find giving characters white/silvery hair and clothing really brings the orange out, so that's why I did it here. The lighting is Sveva Lumiere Pro, with white lights. The closeup doesn't look that orange, but the full-length does. Could play with different translucencies and dual lobe spec settings, etc to adjust.

I love her figure, it looks natural, no "bolted on" silicone implant look. Her facial features are lovely. I think she'd make a great fantasy character- elf, angel, etc. She would work well in romantic renders too. (Click for bigger pics.)

Frankly, looking at Victoria, Olympia, Stephanie, & their Pro Bundles, I suspect that Daz has begun phoning it in (halfheartedly going through the motions), as though their attention is elsewhere. In the mostly defunct art of journalism, three examples were considered a trend. I hope they get their act together, because I really liked Ophelia 7, and I hoped she was a taste of things to come.
