I don't think she looks like a man at all, although her jaw is a little heavy and some of the make-up options don't do her any favours. The 'petite' claim amused me. I'm just shy of five foot three and can usually get away with shopping petite ranges, but almost every shop I've ever been in has defined petite as five foot two and under. Occasionally it will be five three and sometimes just five feet. I can remember reading somewhere ages ago that the average woman's height is five six, which is Stephanie.

I'm not wild about her mouth, but I quite like her eyes (although not with those make-ups) and I like her shape, particularly the smaller bust. The crochet dress is nice too. but I'm in no rush to buy Steph or her bundles yet. She's not so bad that I can't see her ending up in my runtime one day though.

Still has an extremely masculine face. Diversity is fine and all, but Victoria 8 and Olympia 8 are already masculine women.

    I don't see it.

I think y'all are just used to the super idealized femminine faces that borderline on looking cartoonish.

Anyhow, as much as I love the Stephanie line, ehhh... I think I might need to think a little bit before plunking down on her. I haven't really gotten into Genesis 8 as much as I'd hoped I would, but some of the items look really useful, at least.

Left to right Steph 5, 6 and 8
Stephanie 5 and 6 plus their hair and cloths have had the Iray Daz Uber base applied.
Stephanie 5's shoes have a little lower heel than the other two, but she is still shorter than Steph 6.

Ditto. I loved that V8 had stronger features. It's the same look that I tend to dial on purpose. But S8 looks like her, O8 looks like her...they've all got that chin. So much sameface in the DAZ flagship line. I expect them to have distinctive looks. sad

Also in the first couple portraits she legitimately looks like a drag queen (yet the full body she does not). I have to wonder if the focal lengths on the camera aren't being adjusted for closeups, it can cause that same effect.

I think part of what's being seen has to do with her having more of a tall / narrow head shape.  I'm pretty sure that she's the first Daz person to have that.
Having said that, she will probably be able to be used as a base for some very unique faces.

Well now. Steph 8 has certainly grown up.... surprise

  • So, Stephanie, like ALL the other G8 figures, still has this posted in her promo: "Easy Shape Migration: Reworked heel and simplified toe bending to improve movement with a variety of shoe types." What is "easy shape migration" actually supposed to be? Were there plans to release something like SB's script that got scrapped?

WOW, she is so unappealing! I already pass Olympia 8 & Josie 8, but now have to debate about about whether or not to get Stephanie 8. And no, I don't see Gaga in her at all, Arabella 7 was a much better referance of her, loved her face in that one. Stephanie 8 has a nice bodyshape, still need to be convinced ... hope to see more renders of her.

same here, no interest at all looking at the promos and since I haven't jumped on the G8 bandwagon yet, it makes the decision to pass easier.

Returned!  After looking at the morph with no textures in Studio I felt see was just too bony.  The body shape is about as skinny as dialing in the Emaciated morph to 40%.

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

i don't mind the skinny bod. I can always plump her up a bit with dial morphs if I feel she's way too skinny. I'm more interested in her skin.

  • She does look better at a distance than up close ... is that more to do with the camera used?

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

when you look at the full zoomed in view of the base figure promos...i can't work out whether the original pic was smaller so naturally looks dreadful blown up...or whether the promos are unfinished...or whether she looks that bad.

...  But at the same time, I'm _all_ about the 5'6" character, because OMG the standard ladies are tall.

    ...

a petite character (although Ms. Gaga is 5'1", not 5'6", but in DAZ world terms, 5'6" is their version of 5'1")...

+1 on the "OMG the standard ladies are tall." wink

I laughed out loud when I saw a 5'6" character described as petite. That's 2-3" above average height for adult women in the US (depending on which source you look at). She's not petite, she's just not a supermodel.

Still, I want to buy her - except I can't seem to check out! It just keeps cycling back to my cart without letting me purchase anything. sad

It can. Here's a gif showing how much effect focal length has on apparent face shape in portraits. https://i.imgur.com/XBIOEvZ.gif

Its so weird watching the face change shape when its actually not :P

something's going wrong with the cart at the moment, there's a thread in the forums about it. If you've been hitting that checkout button, for goodness sakes, CHECK your orders or your credit card to make sure you havne't "purchased" her repeateldly or been charged repeatedly.

I like her and I like the bundle. The discounts and free stuff are too good to pass up, so I'll bite. I don't think she looks too masculine, thought there are a few tomboyish renders in the promos which remind me of S3, who did look quite masculine. Glad to see a normal-sized character out, even in DAZland that's petite. (I'm 5'5" and that's quite an average height for a woman.) Playing shopping cart jenga at the moment. Lots of goodies to choose from.

Loving this promo. I think her skin looks pretty good:

I haven't like the face sculpts of any of the leading characters so far.... I'm wondering if they changed who models their gen 8 leading ladies and men. Their bodies are fine, but the heads....

i wanna know what's on her head!! is that hair? it looks great!

I would describe that as aggressively styled hair.

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

I think it's cool! very out there and something unique! That is, if it IS hair. I can't work out if it's a bunch of flowers plonked on her head shaded like hair, or what.

I don't know what database you get your info from, but personal experience in the US says that the average is a lot closer to 5'6" for women that are younger than the "baby boomer" generation. definitely true for women aged ~35 and under. People are getting taller.

  • Getting older actually shrinks you by about 2 inches due to disk compression, bone loss, etc.

  • With the PA sale just over and the PC sale about to start I'm going to have to give this one a pass.  I imagine I'll be picking it up sooner or later, I always do, I just don't see anything there that I have to have right now.  Got all the earlier ones.

  • Is it that the G8 figures are too masculine, or are we too used to seeing overly round faces with barely human proportions predominately in the store?  So a more realistic face shape comes along, but it looks sharp and angular in comparison to the standard fare.

Personally, I think she looks great!  I love her face shape!  I'm not a fan of her skin, still looks a little fake-n-bake and those brows... but that's easy enough to tweak or just use a skin I prefer.  Unfortunately, I'm just not hot on the pro-pack contents.  I'd use one hair and outfit out of it.  But I like Adelaide, though she's not in the pack, of course.

Maybe for you. I'm 66 and haven't lost 2 inches.
