Hero FX and pwGhost shaders with iray?

These are on discount..

I bet they are 3Delight engine....shaders?

Right? If I have that right, not every shader works with every rendering engine.

What happens if I try and use these in an iray render?

  • Pretty sure the Hero FX packages will work in Iray. If you combine them with some of the emmisive shaders, you should get some nice effects,

Not sure if pwGhost or pwEffect will work in Iray as they were written for 3Delight.

  • pw series shaders are 3Delight only, they're actual shaders. Hero FX shaders use maps so they can be converted.

Hero FX works fine. You'll have to convert then to Iray and put the image into the emission colour slot, and then add the colors from the Diffuse color to Base color, and the colour from Ambient Color to Emission colour. I found that lumiance of 700 k/cm gives a good light.

Left is converted to Iray, right is out of the box.

Yeah, I can confirm Hero FX and it's add-ons work in Iray as I have them and have used them.

  • What do you think of the quality and usefulness?

    I have these already....

For some stuff I just snag bits and pieces from other sets..

Lots of sets have holographic elements....

And if I don't need the effect to throw simulated light, I'll do it in post.

But you can never have too many effects to mix and match....

Like, I've wanted this since it came out, but I can do that myself.....

Even if I had this other much-wanted product....

For my purpose, I find the Hero FX stuff very useful. I use them for pretty much all of my holographic computer displays from consols to pads to wrist units.

The fx-stuff is quite useful if you have the fx light shining on a character etc. I also got almost all of Jepe's fx, and I like the variety.

I tried this last night, using the method mentioned by @BeeMKay.  Worked like a charm.

  • How do you use these?  I have tried dropping a plane in the scene, selecting the surface, double-clicking these, and nothing is showing up.  Can someone walk me through how to use them (the Hero FX Sci-Fi)?

    Thanks

Hero FX Sci-Fi has it's own plane.  You double click on that, highlight it in the surfaces tab, then double click, the effect you want.  I had to search for them and then catogorize them, so I could find them easy.

    Ah!  That helped.  Thanks.

PWGhost stopped working in 3Delight a couple of DS versions ago, at least on my computer.

Not a problem with me.  I used it in 3Delight on a recent render and I have the latest version of Daz.

PWGhost seems to be working ok for me (DS4.10.0.107), it applies and you get the different effects which look as they should from what I can remember

I would try reinstalling it as it still works on my computer.

If that doesn't work, file a help ticket.
