I *think* that's a pretty straightforward answer...
It gives you discounts on stuff. So the more you buy the more discounts you get. If you don't buy anything but just pay the fee you're not getting much.
So it depends on you. Unless I'm missing something...
Between free content and coupons, it's already close to even. Any purchases saves you even more.
very worth it
If you intend to buy stuff on a regular basis, sure it is. You get a discount on Daz originals off the top, which pays for the membership alone (if you intend to buy stuff...lol). On top of that is all the stuff in the Platinum Club section. I suppose there does come a point tho where the fee outweighs the benefits when you finally have most of what you want and your library becomes saturated. I haven't reached it yet, but might in a year or two.
Laurie
But that assumes you use/need the free content and coupons right? I think I'm a member, and I didn't even know there's free content and coupons
I've heard of people ditching their Platinum membership because they thought it was a waste. Again, I think it depends on the person.
Wow, thanks for mentioning the Platinum Club section. That's where you select the PC+ thingy in the store listings to show only the Platinum Club stuff? Cool. I didn't know about that. Maybe that will cause me to start buying things again
Is it worth it? One word: YES.
I mean, just look at the HUGE discounts you get on thousands of PC+ items. Look at the default 30% discount on even more Daz Original items. Look at the weekly and monthly freebies. And then there's the $12 worth of coupons each month.
If you've been a member for years, and you already have most of the PC+ items, then it might not seem like much. But even then, the stacking 30% discount on Daz Originals alone is worth it in my opinion.
Of course, it all depends on what you want to buy. If the only things you want are not PC+ or Daz Original items, then you can only use the $6 monthly coupon. If you can get a discounted membership for, say $24 for a year, and only use this one coupon and none of the other discounts or free items, giving you $72, even then the math is straight forward.
It just seems like the stuff that's been sitting in my wishlist for months, and mostly costs about $25, never seems to go on sale. Maybe it's because it's not the medieval sword-fighting dragon zombie type stuff that's so popular, but it makes me question whether I'm getting much out of my membership.
PC+ is absolutely worth it if you like to buy content here. You could sign up for a year, turn off auto-renewal, and commit yourself to getting the most out of it for one year--not much risk.
The brand-new Basketball Kit for Genesis 3 & 8 Males has a list price of $19.95. I got it for less than $5. There are tons of old items for $1.99 and many others for less than $5. Each month, DAZ adds new PC+ releases with prices less than $4.
You don't get magnificent discounts like that on everything, just the DAZ Originals, I think.
You get two $6 coupons each month, but there are restrictions on how you can use them, so it's not exactly like getting cash. But if you're buying content anyway, they're great!
OTOH, all this works against you if you want to model your own stuff. I keep finding things that I think, "that's so simple. I should make it myself. If I can't do that in half an hour, I should just give up this hobby." And then one of the things goes on sale for a buck or two thanks to the PC+ discount, and it seems crazy not to just give up and buy...
That's exactly my issue too. Stuff sitting in my wishlist costing $25, and I look at it and say "dang, I could do that or better with a cloth sim, or some simple Blender modelling", and i end up doing that and deleting the stuff in my wishlist. So again it depends on how much you expect to buy in the store. The more the better.
Are you sure you're a PC+ member? The forum doesn't show you as a member.
Anyway, you can always check the price history of a product to see how often it goes on sale, that can give you an idea about it. I'm not sure which products you mean, but most of them go on some kind of sale at least a few times a year. Most go on sale every few months.
Yeah, I like to make my own stuff but there's so much I'm either not good at or don't really feel like doing.
i mean, yeah, I could probably design a castle and spend a month or two getting it just right. Or spend $3 and have it now
It saves you money if you buy even semi-regularly. Moreso on Daz Originals, but even on PA products there's a coupon every month for $6 off a cart of $18 or more (excluding new releases).
On the other hand, it encourages spending so could cost you more
(but you then get more shinies to play with too).
Personally I love it - it's fun entering the weekly and monthly contests, you get the weekly and monthly freebies, save money on loads of things. The anniversary sale is coming up next month (starts whenever the PA sale ends usually) - there might be a special offer on joining then.
Here's a random PC+ item and the price if you have pc+ membership. $2.79 compare what is regularly sells at $14.95, and do the math. If you are planning to buy some content, PC+ will save you money.
Now, if FirstBastion's stuff was on sale with PC+, I'm all over it. I think a large part of what's in my wishlist is FirstBastion stuff. It's pretty amazing.
Medieval sword fighting poses....not so much
If you spend around $50 a month or more (in at least 2 orders) then almost certainly. If you spend less or tend to have a few large buy ups a year, possibly not so much.
Also there is a good chance you won't spend less, most likely more, but you'll get more product for your bucks. YMMV.
Edit: Based on full price for membership . I'm averaging about $30 a year.
Silent Winter pretty much nailed it. The membership will save you alot of money. It will also encourage spending. If you already plan on buying alot of 3d content then id say go for it.
You know, this is a loaded question. You can ask this about anything.
Is an exercise bike worth it? A weight set?
Are you going to lift weights and ride the bike?
You should know that?
BUT, this is more like a club membership. Literally.
Everyone WANTS to be in shape, who's dedicated enough to actually KEEP working out?
Time will tell.
Hang around, buy stuff, use stuff and see what you spend over time.
When you spend a certain amount and see how much time has passed, you can figure out IF you'll actually be into 3D or just noodeled around for a bit and this isn't for you.
If you really enjoy it and want a library- then yes- a membership is a MUST.
PC+ is completely worth it... I've been a member for 11 years, and don't regret a thing.
Now, the items in the PC+ are specifically PC+ items. Other store items don't get rotated in unless there's a special buyout (as has been happening with some of ImagineX's catalog), and PC members only get a discount on Daz Originals and PC+ unless there's a special sale that will extend the discount to select PA's for a few days. So most of that wonderful Stonemason or First Bastion stuff... PC+ won't save you much on that. Jack Tomalin on the other hand... well, most of his stuff is PC+, and he seems to regularly (though not always) participate when DAZ wants to extend the PC+ discount to PA stores.
Personally, I use the coupon on Daz Originals pretty much every month. The $6 off $18 coupon I may or may not use, depending on a lot of different variables, but it still gets used more often than not. Between that the price on PC+ items, the monthly and weekly freebies (which, admitedly, may not always be of use, but I grab them anyway because you never know) and the 30% off (or sometimes more) off Daz Originals, it's certainly saved me much more per year than the cost of membership. But I buy a lot of stuff too, since I only break out Hex to model things I'm 90% certain I'm never going to see in the store (usually because I need it to look a certain way, and can't kitbash it.)
The coupons can be confusing (at least until you learn how to recongize which items are Daz Original and what still counts as "new") and a lot of people don't know how to find them, or even that they had them (and there seems to be no easy way to handle this, as having them posted in a sticky thread in the PC+ forum doesn't seem to help). And the PC+ can be frustrating when it comes to clothing for new figures (or just going out figures) depending on where it is in the figure's cycle. And as I said above, the freebies aren't always useful depending on what your usual genres are. (I don't do a lot of sci-fi, for example.)
I'm not going to say that the PC+ is for everyone, but it certainly works for me.:) I'd probably have dropped this hobby a while ago if not for the PC+
I don't spend that much a month (in fact my annual spending id less than many seem to spend in a month), yet for me it is totally worth it. The freebies and the $6 DAZ original coupon alone make it worth the price. Sure, some of the free stuff I don't use right away, and some I never use, but I'm quite amazed how much I do use. The huge discounts on PC+ items and 30% discounts on DAZ originals are also a huge benefit, especially when a new generation of Genesis is released. For example, with Genesis 8, I got a 30% discount on all of the base morph packages, plus the introductory discount, plus the 30% on the V8 Pro bundle in addition to the introductory discount and the special discount for owning earlier generations. This made getting into Genesis 8 much more affordable (the PC+ discounts alone more than paid for the cost of the annual membership - which I got on sale).
It also helps with purchasing back cataloged items as well. I've picked up some earlier Pro bundles for Genesis and Genesis 2 for ridiculously low prices. For example, last Nov. I got the Callie 6 Pro Bundle for about $8.00, and the Dragon 3 Pro Bundle for about $8.00 in a stacking sale (I think it was the end of the PC sale). I've been a member for 11 or 12 years, and it has saved me a lot , a great deal more than it has cost.
It also give you access to the Platinum Club Members only forum, which can be a plus too. I've actually been fortunate enough to place in a couple of the monthly render contests there, which made the annual membership even less. You can also wait for when the membership goes on sale, and it's an even better deal. Unless your a Poser only user, or you don't buy hardly anything ast all, IMHO it's well worth the price. Even if you don't buy much, it may be worth it for the free stuff.
I personally don't spend alot a month, but I am willing to give daz $7.95 a month to get 5 guaranteed free items every month(1 monthly & 4 weekly). Even if I never use the coupons or buy anything else, those 5 freebies for $7.95. That to me is worth it.
Let me give you some hard numbers. Last month I paid my $7.95, and got my 5 freebies for that month. They and their original prices were:
If I had bought these Items seperately I would have spent $89.75 without the standard new item 30% discount. Even with that 30% off I'd still have spent $62.83, still a goodly sum. But I got them all for free, if you don't count the $7.95 a month entry fee to the PC+ Club. And every month the freebies are different, so sometimes it'll be stuff you need right now or since it's free, pick it up anyway and use it in a later project. All around a great deal for only $7.95 a month. And even if you don't spend another dime in the shop those freebies are there for you each month. So, yes, in my humble opinion the PC+ Club is extremely worth it.
Check the PC+ listings. See if you like anything you see there. Calculate what you would pay with and without the PC+ price. Add in the coupons. If that is less than the enrollment fee, its worth it.
For me it more than pays for itself. I've been a a member for a couple of years now, so my purchases are slowing, but new stuff coming out is of incredible quality, so I see a long term membership for myself.
If you spend in the range of $100 a month on content it is more than worth it.
Its worth it to me because I break even just off the coupons, there is 30% of daz original items and I do buy those. I wanted a lot of the older club content but only at PC prices. I got loads of older items on a sale for .60 per item. You should give it a spin just to see the mark downs for club members. I let my membership expire and it drove me nutz. I didn't understand how different the store looked to non-members price-wise. If you want to build a little collection of stuff and feel you have a enough of a selection to get creative with, there is no cheaper way than with Platinum club. If you want to buy only what you need for a render as you need it, any item that happens to be a daz original will be 30% off plus you will get the coupons, so even then it will pay for itself.
I lost my PC+ membership four days ago (and can't really renew it right now) and I'm already missing it. Let me tell you, if you buy here on a regular basis (at least a couple times a month) then PC+ is definitely worth it. Between all the freebies and the $12 in monthly coupons and the additional discounts on Daz Original items, it's something I can't recommend enough for people who are regular customers of Daz. :)
There's also the PC+ banner that's always in the first position in the big rotating banner at the top of the main store page; click on that to get to a page showing all the PC+ benefits, including the current special weekly/monthly freebies.
I have been here for 11 years and eventually it all goes on sale in my experience.
PC benefits new users more since they don't already have all the older stuff that is heavily discounted in PC. I was a PC member for quite a few years then let it laspe because I had everything that always seemed to be discounted. Then I got some great deals on consecutive memberships and have been a member for the last 2,5 years and have really taken advantage of it, so I plan to stay a member when it comes around for renewel. I have found that the free rooms from Imaginary House they usually offer have been VERY useful. So much so, that I have actually bought more of their items.
And let's not forget that quite often the PC+ memberships go on sale and the PC discount applies on top of that, which frequently stack to crazy low prices. My current annual membership cost $24.50, so for that price I got 48 free PC+ items, another 12 Monthly freebies without having to meet the usual qualifier of having to buy something else from the store on the same invoice, plus $72 in coupons for DAZ originals, so I'm way out ahead even before factoring in the additional $72 in $6 coupons with the qualifier of having to buy an additional $12 of non-new product from any vendor.
Yeah, it's easily one of the best values in the 3D industry.
Greetings,
Back in February of 2012 I first encountered DAZ and the store and stuff, and I wanted to make a purchase. Back then, if you _weren't_ in the PC, they showed a little annotation on every DAZ O or PC item's price that said how much it would cost if you were a Platinum Club member. It took me maybe 10-15 minutes to realize that my first (non-free) purchase HAD to be a PC membership, and it was.
I don't think I've let it lapse since then; through massive store changes, forum changes, and more, it's been absolutely worthwhile, both for myself and DAZ. I _feel_ like I'm getting a good deal, and DAZ gets a pretty steady drip of my money.
A lot of folks will talk about 'I could model that...' and they probably could, and they have the time to do so. I have a painfully small amount of time to do fun stuff (after I subtract out work and time with my family), and it's split between programming, reading, and 3D illustrations. If I try to pick up modeling as a serious extra hobby, I take time away from everything else that I could be doing. Is it worth $6.99 (or $4.89 during the new item markdown!) for an amazing Jack Tomalin environment, with coffee tables, gorgeous floors, a pool table, moving blinds, doors, amazing architecture, as well as lighting, chairs, and a dozen props?
How many YEARS of dedicated modeling, architecture study, and texturing would it take before I was good enough to build that, at even near that quality level, in less than $10,000 of my current hourly rate? All of them, I think.
If I want to render scenes to get them out of my mind, the Platinum Club is worth it because it brings me amazing props and tools at astoundingly low prices, compared to the time that it takes to make them and the value they are to me in providing a digital library.
I originally intended to respond to this with a one-word post, 'Yes.' but I don't think the forum allows that...and I wanted to talk about the issue of the value of your time versus the cost of items.
I think it's worth it, and I have for years now.

I wanted to make a purchase when I first encountered the Daz store too, but I'll never forget how daunting the idea seemed. I'd been here at least a month before I joined the Platinum Club, mostly because when I first showed up they were having a sale which involved acquiring and spending Punches - totally baffling and incomprehensible to me as a newcomer. Picking up a bargain seemed like such hard work that I could feel myself turning pale at the thought of pursuing a process that would allow me to make multiple purchases each month picking up lots of them!
Evidently I've gotten over my confusion because I've spent a small fortune here since then. Without Platinum Club it would have either have been a much bigger one or I'd have got a lot less for the same money.
