Exporting a scene with instances?

I think I have an understanding of how instances work and I'm pretty sure the answer is no--but is there a way to export a scene that uses instances so I can open it another 3D program?

  • Yes you turn them to objects first. https://www.daz3d.com/instances-to-objects

Nope, instancing in this form is DS proprietary. Instancing is very app specific in my experience. I have tried exporting to 3DSMax which has it's one version of instancing, as does Maya and Unity, but could never get it to work.

  • actually if the other program is iClone you can duplicate stuff with a centered pivot and attach it to the instances in the dialogue tree checking transform and rotations and the duplicates will go to the right spots

Thank you all! I had a hunch that was the case. In this situation it's Daz -> Cinema4D (which I am really enjoying at the moment)

Agent Unawaress, I'll favorite that product. Looks like a solution.
