I just want to make sure I have everything I need to convert some G2 characters (the morphs) to G8

What all is needed to do this?

    Long as it may be, it would be a good idea to read thru this thread. Then use Redz tutorial for G3 to G8 (G2 to G8 is the exact same process).

    You'll need all three GenX2 products:

    https://www.daz3d.com/genx2-addon-for-genesis-3

     

    That will let you convert Genesis 2 Characters to Genesis 3. Then to move them From Genesis 3 to Genesis 8 you'll need to follow Redz' tutorial: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/2532336/#Comment_2532336

    Ug, why can I never remember how to use genx2? I've done a couple characters before, transfering from generation 4 to genesis 2 and I see that I did those by exporting to cr2 first.

    Now when I'm trying to export to cr2, either I don't get a file (when I just select the character and do file->export and don't mess with any options) or when I select the option to Save Binary morph file

    If I select the option to collect files, I get an error that it can't find Genesis 2 Female object (with a string of letters and numbers afterword) in the temp directory.

    My problem with GenX was the opposite, I only knew how to transfer between Genesis figures not V4 to whichever Genesis. What you have to keep in mind is that cr2 is only for the non-Genesis figures, since it's looking for it as a poser file.

    For Genesis go to Source then select Genesis 2 Female and wait for it to load. I usually dial the shape I want/apply the preset and select get the values from scene.

    Then click Transfer On for all Zero Values. Make sure the values get transfered and then click the transfer button to get them to G3F.

    My signature has a link to some quick tips, aimed at first time users but also for those of us who keep forgetting how to use it, LOL. The video I link to is my favorite, out of all the GenX2 videos out there. It's to the point and I cover the few things he doesn't mention. It may be of some help.

    Thank you both. I use it so infrequently I always have to relearn it every time I use it.

    It's 25 pages long. lol I didn't read it all. I just used GenX2 and downloaded Redz' tutorial. I've gotten some lovely results with it. I've transferred over Lilith 6, the Girl 6, Callie 6 etc to Genesis 8. Transfering dial spun characters can be a pain though.

    The script towards the end of that thread worked just fine for the first character :) so now I have a G8 morph from my G2 character, the final step is to get all the clothes to fit correctly
