So how do you fit G8F clothes on G7F?

I'm really at a loss.  Is this an intentional defect?

No, it's not a defect. It's typical, as far as I can tell. Others who have been around here longer than I can confirm, or correct, but it's my understanding the new generation comes out with support for the previous gneration, but not vice-versa. (I think this is the first time we got more than one generation in auto-fit.) It won't be long before a vendor comes out with a product that will add a G8F clone to G3F, (and G8M clone to G3M, assuming there is a G8M...)

If you are feeling up for a challenge, (relatively easy, actually,) you can go to the Morphs from G3 to G8 thread, find any post from Singular Blues, and click on the clones tutorial link in his signature. Follow the instructions in Parts One and Two, substitute G3F for G2F, and you'll have created your own clone to Auto-fit G8F clothing on G3F.

Change the settings of the clothing.

    (G3F (not G7F btw); V7 is a subset of G3F, basically a morph.)

Edit > Object > Scene Identification > Preferred Base

Change G8F to G3F and accept. Save it, but don't overwrite the original item.

How well it works will vary, but increasing smoothing on some items might solve issues.

I thought about sharing the link to Sickleyields tutorial, but I didn't want to overwhelm UHF. I know it's not always the case, but with only 200-ish posts, combined with the topic, I suspect the OP is still relatively new to all this.

But if I'm wrong, @UHF, Sickleyield has a very thorough tutorial covering the steps nicstt shared. Here's the link: Convert Clothing G3 to G8, G8 to G3.

    Look down.

    LOL... Tag Team!

Being confused is how we learn. :)

... Well, it works for me at any rate. So it may work for some others too.

Sickleyields process didn't work for me.  There is no "Genesis 3 Female" in prefered base.  How do I add that?

just posing her clothes to match G3F and  baking joint rotations should work, I don't own any to test.

I did make a clone though, that works on things I modelled.

If the CMS is running, it should be there; it would probably be listed as Genesis 3 at minimum.

click on the elipsis (...) and add it.

I don't know what that is.  Last I checked, there was no manual.  From what Daz says... its there.  Otherwise I don't know what causes it to function.

I can't figure out what it is or what it does.  I slected Local User, and CMS froze my PC for 2 minutes.  Then it presented the flat and rather huge directory.  Nothing sorted.  And still nothing works.

nicstt.  None of that is there at all.  I added it and rebuilt and rescanned my database.. and nothing works.  Typical.  All I'm trying to do is adapt Genesis 8 Lingerie Robe to Genesis 3 Female.  At this point the arms simply drop when I do the final fit to G3F.

If you load a G3F next to a G8F, you see that 3 is in a T-pose and 8 is in an A-pose. Look at the Rotation parameters for the shoulders of both and you'll see there is no rotation for either figure.

I know it sounds like a lot of work, but I think creating a G8F clone for your G3F is the way to go. You do it once now, and you'll be able to fit most G8F clothing onto your G3F now and in the future. (It really isn't difficult. There are a lot of steps in the tutorial because it's step-by-step. But they are easy steps.)

Shoes are another story. You're best bet there is to use shoes made for G3F.

Funny I just tried the robe and it wouldn't work, despite working with the other items I tried; it adjust the arms correctly without me having to do anything on the item I posted an image of above.

I'll have a look later, I don't have time atm.

    Easy way:

    1. Load G3F
    2. Right click Parameters tab. Zero > Zero Figure.
    3. File > Export. Name it Genesis 8 Clone .
    4. File > Import, Find the File you just created and import it.
    5. Transfer Utility. Source G3F. Target Genesis 8 Clone. Accept.
    6. Select Genesis 8 Clone. Right click > Parent to. Set "none."
    7. delete G3F.
    8. Load G8F Developer load (use this otherwise the eyelash figre will mess things up).
    9. Fit Genesis 8 Clone to G8F.
    10. Hide G8F. Only Genesis 8 Clone should be visible.
    11. File > Export. Name the file Genesis 8 Female.
    12. Clear the Scene
    13. Load Genesis 3 Female.
    14. Right click Parameters tab. Zero > Zero Figure.
    15. Open Morph Loader Pro.
    16. Select the file you exported as Genesis 8 Female.
    17. Accept.
    18. Select G3F if not already selected, and find the new Morph. It will be under Morphs/Morph Loader in the Parameters tab.
    19. Click the gear Icon.
    20. Change the path to Hidden/Clones
    21. Change the Type to Modifier/Clone
    22. Check the Hidden Check box.
    23. File > Save as >Support Asset(s) > Morph Asset(s)
    24. In the Morph save window, drill down to Hidden/Clones and find Genesis 8 Female in the list. Check it. Depending on you Studio version, you may need to add something to the Product field. Or you can leave it as product. Mostly this sets where the file will be saved. That is the file will be in data/Daz 3D/Genesis 3/Female/Morphs/[Vendor Name]/[Product Name]
    25. You now have an autofit clone for Genesis 8 Female. When you load a G8 outfit to G3, the What Figure drop down in the autofit dialog will have Genesis 8 Female as an option.

    Limitations
G3 and G8 have very different shoulders, despite all the vertexes in the shoulders being the same. This may cause clothing to look a bit odd in this area. This limit will apply to any other method, but results may vary.

Custom bones will be lost. SickleYield has a tut on her DA for preserving custom bones for Generation 4 or less figures while fitting to Genesis+. This method will work G8 to G3. In fact, it will work better than it does with Gen 4. This is because the method preserves all the bones, and this can cause posing problems with figures that don't share the same skeleton. G8 and G3 do share a skeleton (3 has a few bones 8 doesn't but they don't matter here) so the SY tut should result in fairly exact transfers (which may lead to different behavior at the shoulders, so this might be worth a try if plain autofit gives a bad shoulder result). Note: Somewhere in the tut you are instructed to convert figure to weight mapping. This is not reqired for transfers between Genesis figrures. It's a Gen 4 or less thing.

For all the ways 3 and 8 are alike, they are not the same figure, and autofit is mostly an authoring tool. It can do a good job (or a great job) transferring between figures, but the intended role was for the author to make adjustments after autofit, so results will be variable.

Singular Blues: Didn't work for me.
I've been following your instructions but whenever I try to apply the moprph (genesis 8 female) in step 15 it says: wrong geometry.
I've set the resolution for G3 and G8 to low/standard. But in step 9 th´here are some autofit options... "genesis 3 female, full body" and so on. Maybe something's important on this step so the geometry will fit in step 15?

    Look down.

It worked! Thank you SO MUCH! The instructions in your PDF were spot on and even a klutz like me could follow them.

Off to the store to look at that G8 clothing I've been bypassing wink

PS You do have one mistake in the PDF, in step 19 'Delete Genesis 2 Female and MyG8Clone_G2F from the scene' instead of Genesis 8 Female

    it works!.jpg

OMG! Thank you for this! *hugs* It was simple, to the point, and works like a charm! First try I was able to start putting G8F clothing onto my G3F! This is awesome!

    Best regards,
