This got me laughing hard! After all these years we have finally gotten to the edge of that stupid cliff
Dive or not?
The following is just one study. Not offering it as some sort of absolute truth that has been confirmed using a variety of methodologies in a variety of settings over a variety of time periods. But, someone did say that there had not been any linked studies. So, here is one linked study.

i really like the Ana Lucia for g8f.
she's curvy
It's not hard to say at all because (1) if you're going to comment on something specific to the studies, then you ought to first inform yourself about the facts they contain (instead of just talking off the cuff) and (2) anybody can do their own research by googling the darn subject. It takes 20 seconds. Less time than typing up an answer to a post. No reason to spoonfeed anybody.
and for those who care to inform themselves on the unconscious and how we evaluate faces on whether or not the people behind them are dependable, sinister, trustworthy and other character traits ...there are also those, other intriguing studies to be found out there
will not get sucked into another stupid argument about beauty and standards of art will not get sucked into another stupid argument about beauty and standards of art will not get sucked into another stupid argument about beauty and standards of art will not get sucked into another stupid argument about beauty and standards of art will not get sucked into another stupid argument about beauty and standards of art
that's just one argument going on here .... the other one is more intellectually and scientifically engaging
I recently bought a charater called Jun from the other store. Apart from a few burned-in creases in the texture, she is a very realistic older lady. Those dark texture lines were easy to clone out but that's my preference - I'd rather have shadows caused by geometry or normals than burned-in as pixels in the texture. Otherwise, I use the Zev0 kits to create the aging look - a combination of vascularity and aging morphs with my own dial-spinning. I don't yet have the skin-builder product to add blemishes and age spots (wishlist).
Well and that is another issue...if you do the textures to a specific "aged morph" then the textures/wrinkle/etc look natural with "that" morph but once you try it with others you run into issues as the features of the lines/creases etc don't line up with the creases etc in the texturing. (Good point I didn't think to add in my post)
Ideas of beauty do change over time. She's G2F, I might add.
But it is rather more incumbent on the person claiming that "you should read the studies" to indicate which studies they mean and as I mentiomned (and you cut out when you quoted me) in what studies I have read The main thing mentioned was symmetricality which V8 completely satisfies I have yet to find a study that suggests that unnusually, if not unnaturally, large eyes and lips are intrinsically more attractive however. In fact "averageness" was another signifier of attractiveness, which, given that V8 has much closer to average facial proportions, means once again there is a scientific arguement for V8 being more attactive.
I also find that a lot of these intrinsic standards of beauty can fall in the "pop evopsych" unbrella which... uhh well thats a whole 'nother debate and good lord is there research that one can do on that one.
I think that the unhealthy body weights of modern fashion models puts the lie to that theory. And a look back through history will quickly show that what were thought of as the most beautiful women of an era might be considered downright ugly today.
Nargis, A Bollywood beauty from the 1960 s wouldn't be considered a beauty in this store, I'm thinking.
And look at corsets that gave a hideously distorted body, and many women could hardly breath in them. That was once an ideal for European women to strive for- as unhealthy as you could get!
And look at foot binding- once an epitomy of feminine beauty in parts of Asia. If you google foot binding , I don't think you would try to argue that an ideal of beauty has anything to do with sighns of reproductive health
awesome!!
That is realy nice, Ann.
love that picture .... looks like the mother of V8
it's incumbent on you to get the facts, not me to do your homework ... it's your loss if you don't ... and your gain if you do because you'll be able to properly discuss things with those who are properly informed
Do you keep on skipping over the part where I have read studies. Anjd the thing that most agree on is symmetricality. which V8 is
You are not adressing any of the points I have raised. Just repeating that there are totally studies out there that prove you right but that you wont show because I should totally find them myself it is the girlfriend in canada of arguments
Do I like V8? In a word, no, not really.. but I haven't been overly fond of any of the Vickys, only Daz base figure I've liked out of the box was Aiko 3. I like anime styled toons (loved Hitomi). For realistic characters I like them like I like real women, with more meat on their bones. So unless Daz decides to make a Vicky that's more like Bethany I'm not going think any of them are beautiful (to my special eyes).
Now if I could get Olympia 6's face with Bethany 7's body.. hubba hubba..
I agree. Jaw and the nose both bother me. She has an extremely hard look to her. Maybe with a bit more "meat on her bones" it woudn't look so bad. Like this, I can see using her for a dominatrix scene at best, or a more realistic female warrior (rather than the super pretty ones). Overall, I think part of the problem is that her face is just way too thin and sunk-in looking, which contributes to the more masculine look. (I'm a huge fan of Rune and her morphs, so I usually don't mind stronger or more average looking female characters)
And no - I don't think she looks more like an average woman. Average women do not have that hard, half-starved, yet muscled look to them. So far, I haven't liked any of her morphs either (not even the ones from some of my favorite creators). They all have that same look underneath.
I've never been a great fan of any of the Victorias, but they all had very nice morphs. We'll see what comes out for V8/G8 later on down the road. As of now, I won't be purchasing her (which is a relief to my bank account).
LMFAO... oh man.
And here is a scientific study (well more an aggregate of studies) helpfully entitled "Facial attractiveness: evolutionary based research"
Category 1: symmetry, according to some studies we find symmetry more attractive. As mentioned V8 is perfectly symmetrical.
2: Averageness, some research suggests that faces closer to the average of many faces are more attractive. As people has mentioned in this thread V8 has more average features whereas previous generations have had more exaggerated features, although I suppose to clearly we would have to take the victorias render them and compare them to a composite of many faces to see which is closer to average
3 Sexually dimorphic features. well this was a fun read. The study was quite circumspect in how much dimorphism plays into attractiveness of important note the features they specifically noted as more masculine were "Larger jawbones, more prominent cheekbones and thinner cheeks are all features of male faces that differentiate them from female faces" no mention of eye size nose size etc. also fun note several studies mentioned indicated that more feminine features were seen as more attractive for both women and men I enjoyed that tidbit. also one of the composite images (figure 3) showed they shrank the jaw height for both genders so... I dont know what to make of that. When it comes to V8 some here have accused her of having a masculine jaw, as a connoisseur of masculine jaws I personally don't see it, but I suppose that one is arguable V8 definitely does not have super defined cheekbones or thin cheeks so even If we give her the masculine jaw on the balance there are still several other listed features where she would qualify as more feminine.
Also worth noting all of these studies are asking people alive today so it is rather hard to prove the intrinsic universality of them within some of the studies footnoted there was some evedence of differences between cultures which would indeed argue against it.
And really I just straight up dont see the strong jaw thing.
This is not a strong jaw
This is a strong jaw
Daz loves mature women, that´s why
Victoria isn't supposed to be ***average***. And V8's face has features more commonly attributed to men. That's why it's offputting. It's just a fact. Most women do not have those features. That's why I have no problem saying she's butt ugly.
Yeah, practically the whole Zev0 catalogue every time a new generation is released. I'll probably skip this generation - I haven't seen much that makes G8F/V8 worth all that investment.
Love v8. Ugly? A big not from me. She simply looks a little older than 17. Or 14 with silicon. Thanx big time DAZ!!! Hope she is around a while although I don't see a lot of new things being made for her, so I wonder.
To me, it's not what the base character looks like, it's what I can do with the morphs!
Nope, you are not alone. I don't really find her that attractive either. I really liked the look of old V7, and when comparing the new V8 to her, the new model looks really masculine. Of course that is just my opinion, and there's really no point of arguing, since like they say, beaty is in the eye of the beholder. I also understand that later there will be more characters which I'll probably like more, but since pretty much every piece of clothing in Daz world supports Victoria model, I build my own characters based on her. Maybe I could use V8 body ( which I think is ok ), and some other character face as a base, but I'm still really happy with my old V7, and probably stick with her until next generation comes after 2 years.
PS: Maybe it's just me, but I think it's just as rude to call characters duck faced plastic surgery queens as it's calling new V8 ugly ( you can say ugly in so many ways ), and then trying to defend it by saying that new V8 looks more like "average" female.
...Steph 5 was not all that "attractive" either in comparison to the other Gen5 females, however I found her great for middle aged and older characters Yeah she lost the "petit" moniker after the Gen4 version but that still didn't make her "bad".
