out of the box not so enamoring imo, but when morphed with other characters' features she becomes more versatile
Raiya's morphs for V8 are also great too and I use them a whole lot :). I used one in this image.
Note: I did shorten her legs in this image. I guess it's all in what you're used to I guess. I'm so familiar with my own short stubbies that they look more normal to me :P. Different strokes :). Petite girls of the world - arise! (and bring a step stool if you have to. LOL)

From memory, it's normal for a new model to go on sale, shortly after it's released. It's not necessarily a sign of failure.
But, for me, V8's keeping house and raising babies, because I don't render female characters and, regardless of the discount or how she looked, I wouldn't buy her. Besides, there are morph dials that can be used, to change appearance to something more pleasing to the beholders eye.
true ... I read about that too and saw the pictures and the features considered to be instantly pleasing to those who were a part of the scientific studies out there. features considered to be (in men and women) masculine, feminine, sinister, trustworthy, etc. were all identified as things we instantly unconsciously pick up on
That looks like what'd you would get if you crossed Jay Leno, Julia Roberts, and Skeletor to me... and those eyebrows... wow.
That render is really tough on the eyes for me, please make it stop! lol
One thing to understand; the results of the study don't automatically mean that anyone other than those that participated in the study found certain features more attractive than others. And, honestly, if you're surrounded by advertizing that constantly shows people with a certain appearance on a consistent basis, you're apt to unconsiously adopt the viewpoint that they are the norm even if that's not the case. Like I have said before DAZ released Genesis 8 and people were complainning about them looking too young, I've met enough folks that are older than what their appearance would suggest to know that looks are deceptive.
My render?
Well I thought it came out nice..oops (though in fairness I don't render tons so it could be lack of skills on my part) That's ok though as everyone has different tastes. I can remove the image if it's hurting your eyeses
I would describe V8 more as a handsome woman rather than a pretty girl, and I think she's a nice change from the overall look of the Genesis 3 line with the prevalence of overly large pouty lips and baby faces. But beauty is subjective, and what I like is only reflective of my tastes.
@Daz_ann0314
i didn't actually mean remove it!!! I was goofing / exagerating.... (though the part of me that doesn't feel bad about the miscommunication is very happy you did... however, it would probably be better to put it back for the purpose of discussion & science of course.)
Your render wasn't bad... lighting was good.... it's just the model I can't stand to look at.... My brain is not adjusting at all to that combination of features.... I would almost go as far as saying I'm allergic to it... lol.
I like V8 more than the previous iterations. I didn't buy her because I don't want to get into another round of stocking up with all the morphs and add-ons I use constantly with G3F but I do like the renders I've seen. More natural to my eyes. I also like Ceridwen - again no pin-up glamour girl but very appealing.
It depends on whether you want to render realistic people or more toonish idealized ypes of beautiful women. Either is fine, but you can't really compare a toon girl to a real one. They are different styles.
The type of women you see in the store with the huge amount of body fat on the face, and chest with the deformed spine is actually not very realistic. Lots of body fat in the face, lips, and chest area will mean bodyfat elsewhere in the natural world. Oversized eyes are more common in children than adults, and yes it is conceivable that adult women have huge eyes, it is not very common. The spinal issue is also quite sad but seems to continue in this generation.
So, if your standards of beauty are towards idealzied women, Victoria 8 might not suit you. If you like a more realistic female model she certainly has more normal everday features and proportions,
(1) if the study was large enough, then you can infer general population reactions to what is/isn't pleasing
(2) this has nothing to do with advertising if we are talking about -- as the studies do -- trustworthiness, sinisterness, etc. These are character traits that are unconsciously infered from looks. We all do it.
It doesn't sound like you bothered to first read the studies, but are just falling back on well worn cliches.
I didn't remove it
I left it to torture you and give you nightmares
(kidding) though I didn't remove it..it's just on the previous page where you won't ever have to see it again...unless of course you go back to page two BWAHAHAHA
Saying someone is hollywood brainwashed is one of the perfect example of "hollywood brainwashing" in practice! Injecting other people with your own view.
You certainly have not been to a communist country where brainwashing actually exists
Tho, I argue that hollywood brainwash does not exist. You simply can't just "Inject" someone the idea of perfect beauty, but rather the other way around - they adapt to what is the most popular sense of "perfect beauty"
In the end hollywood is still a business community that generates income through apparences, if they produces a movie with famous models and everyone loves it, they will keep producing it because thats where the demands are. We don't live in north korea where some certain things are bannished, forcing everyone to believe otherwise - that's brainwashing. Any of the producer in any hollywood blockbusters can choose who they want to include into a movie, but the sales might differ, or it might not
I just want to emphasize here that the two sides always exist, one that loves this new figure and one that does not, and no one is wrong there. It's common anywhere in the world and we should learn to live in a world where opposite side exists, rather than branding the other side "ridiculous" and prove the rightous esteem that "My ideology's always right".
For beauty, it is really just about "the eyes of the beholder", choose anyway and you are not wrong
Here I find both V8 and V7 equally as appealing to me, just a different style
That was an really awesome warrior type render btw. I really love all the details there and the coloring
She definitely looks more "hardcore" (is that the term these days..bah Im getting old *sniffles*) than the usual looks I've seen. She looks like a video game mockup to me there...
Truly that we all are influenced in some way, sure, but keep in mind that they are not manipulating your brain, and you still have your own control. Be the change you want to see in the world, but don't force others into the same
I'm just going to drop the bomb here, but where is the mid 40, 50, 60 women in daz? *Searching under my bed*
Or someone with bad skin?
I guess no one finds them sellable?
A soccer mom would likely be a big hit.... especially if she was bundled with a mini-van
Are you claiming that physics and statistics we have is not reliable because they are based mostly on sampling and estimation of a small proportion of something?
lol ... the bomb ... lol
Hahahaha
Well said.
This is the second thread that I'm aware of that has entertained this difference of opinion regarding V8's appearance. I've avoided participating in either discussion because I recognize that everyone has his or her own opinion on the topic and my opinion makes no difference--nor should it. You like her? Fine! Add her to your runtime. You don't like her? Fine! Don't add her to your runtime.
She's just one of a gazillion options to create 3D art.
And one of the gazillion gazillion of judgements you gotta make for the rest of your life
including a makeup kit with hairdye and botox injections .... everything the 40s on up woman needs to keep her dignity /sarc off
I didn't say that .... the other fella did =)
Haha apologies! Quoting the wrong guy is definitely my habbit
but your argument was spot on =)
There haven't actually been any linked any studies to read, so its rather hard for you to say anyone hasn't "read the studies"
In what I have read Symmetricality seems to be the most supported univesal sign of attractiveness and good news! V8 just happens to be perfectly symmetric! so she therefore scientifically must be perfectly attractive. ;)
Slightly less facetiously, I personally find V8 the most attractive Victoria to date, because I find her facial proportions more realistic and less stylized; and personally close to realistic but stylized features veers right into the uncanny valley for me and creeps me right out so I always found the somewhat more stylized features of previous generations were incredibly offputting.
She also has the nicest expressions to date. As I'm also not a fan of the dead mannequin stare that's another checkmark in the better looking box for me.
As someone who did characters for a really long time, the issue is two fold:
1) There is a severe lack of photographic resources in that age range. You can find photos of younger women and sometimes much older women but middle aged women dont seem to wanna strip and take photos (maybe its the school aged/high school kids in their lives?) IDK but there aren't tons of references to use. Granted you can go with trying to build from scratch but that takes a very long time to work all the individual details in which leads me to issue #2
2) Sadly, the market is smaller for older women. Now that isn't to say that there is not a market for it or that it isn't something someone should attempt..the issue is more (from a merchant standpoint) time vs payout. It would take longer to do (due to issue #1) and you would also generally make less money as less people seem to be interested in women that are more distinquished/life experienced (AKA my age or older ROFL) So where as you may be able to recoup your time on your usual "younger woman", its much harder to when you do less "run of the mill" characters and because of that people tend not to take the gamble (since it is their bill money they are gambling with)
PS that is not me speaking for Daz 3D or anything..just relaying my personal experiences PA wise.
Haha thanks! Being an Science/Engineering student myself I can't stand people saying: "Guess what your sample is not large enough and it does not cover everyone"
I guess they will have trouble getting into their car in the morning because by their theory, it might explode the minute you turn it on because it is not the sample they inspected in the factory
