G3 hair adjustment on G8 model issues? *solved*

Hi guys! Just wondering if there's a way to get G3 hair to adjust style (movement, length (when available), pose etc.) on a G8 model? Auto Fitting doesn't seem to be an issue with most styles, but once it's on the G8, I can't seem to do anything with it! Even going directly into the hair to bend, twist, side, rather than use provided sliders doesn't shift it properly. Any help would be appreciated - or is it just the way it is? TIA. Kristy

Moprhs should be preserved by AutoFitting - custom bones, however, won't be. The usual solution is to simply parent the hair to the head, adjust so that it fits or clips into the skull, and then use a Smoothing Modifier with Collision on to fix the clipping - that preserves the custom bones.

This is how you do it.

For G3 hair with custom bones (which is what it sounds like you have) you would follow these steps outlined here.

While the tut says it's for Generation 4, the method will work on anything. However, the more different skeleton, the poorer the results. Because previous generation figures have fewer bones in the spine chain, this typically gives poor results with hair. However, G3 and G8 have the same bones in the spine chain, so this method will work just fine

    DO NOT DO THAT

If you have G3 hair you want to move to G8 with custom bones, use the clothing tutorial instead.

It's incredibly easy because G3 and G8 have basically the same head shape and size.  You really just need to change the scene identification and it will fit, don't distort it by running it through clone conversion or autofit.
