Question about Darkseal's products

  • The only issue ive found so far is with Nyla. Side - side on rfoot, lfoot and head breaks the model (see pic). Its listed as daz compatible so ill write this up later.

Nyla was mistakenly listed as Daz supported. This has since been changed on the store page to reflect Poser only support. If you purchased Nyla and only use DS, time for a refund.

So... Hybrid Queen for V4: https://www.daz3d.com/hybrid-queen-for-v4  I noticed that it's a CR2 figure. Does this mean that it's a morph injection that uses V4 or...? Because it seems like it has materials and a head attachment from the promo image.

  • OdaaOdaa Posts: 1,548

No, a morph injection would be a pz2 file, I believe. Cr2 is a rigged figure, like a character, clothing...or a rigged (as opposed to morphing, parented prop) hairstyle. The latter is what the thing *seems* most like, that or a rigged helmet.

Hybrid Queen for V4. Comes with the main suit and a prop, the back tubes. The suit has six surface zones, ArmsLegs, ChestPlate, HeadMain, Hip, NeckPiece and Tubes. The prop for the back (which actually consists of four props), has a surface area for each back tube. There are no morph injections. Fit it to your v4. There are no Mats for V4 and the suit and prop itself uses diffuse maps that can be changed to any difuse color or, find your favorite shader.

LOL that's totally not what I was expecting, but I suppose I can make it work :) Thank you!

Use or own? Shoouldn't I be able to import her in as "poser Format" and have the character work....?

Never mind I just did it. I own poser 9 X but don't use it. Opened her fine in Daz and she accepts parts of poses...but I can bend her limbs at will..

So I consider that a 'working just fine' result.

A .cr2 is a rigged figure file in Poser. It proboably uses the .obj files that come with V4 so you do need her to use it and it probably contains it's own morphs so it doesn't need a .pz2 to inject the morphs.

It's probably a good idea to go to cgbytes or Renderotica as the products have compatibility listed in the description (or any other site that Darkseal sells items on).

From what I've seen, most of Darkseal's products aren't compatible with Daz (or "not recommended for use" with).

Just to save anyone else that gets the Neckro Armor for V4... there's a file path error in the frontab.pp2. If you don't fix, you'll get an error when you attempt to load the Front Ab..."unable to locate v4/Frontab2.obj". I used a free for personal use text editor to find and fix my error (EditPad Lite). I figured I'd post the error location along with the corrected file path.  Not sure why but on Genesis 3 chest prop loads okay but with Genesis 2 and Genesis you have to load chest before figure or it errors out.  Oh, and you'll get a missing bump map error on each prop. I had to add to shaders to the props.  Note: I kitbashed  because she was not TOS. (Item is fitted to Genesis 2 except skull helm which was scaled and parented. Spear was also parented.

I've been trying to load it in Daz, but the program keeps crashing.

I don't really know anything about editing code in the files. Thanks for posting a fix smiley

OK, here are some renders to try and demonstrate the issues with Boon. Boon_1 shows the break at the neck as a result of side - side movement from the neck. It also shows the lcollar/rcoller crimping at maximum forward/back which is not bad at all. Boon_2 shows the same issues when covered with the Boon Top. Boon_3 shows the issue with smoothing applied (10). Boon_4 shows the deformation of the clothing and chains when rotated forward. However, as luck would have it, Boon_5 shows that the chains do have their own surface group so you can always drop their opacity and replace with other chains. Boon_5 also has smoothing applied to the Bottom. The top did not need smoothing. Hope this helps.

Awesome.  So all in all... not too bad I would say.  For such a cool looking character, his "issues" are minor and manageable.

Oh, yah. At those prices, no doubt. I think he might pose a challenge for me as far as iray is concerned but ill manage.

I've tried two things so far in DS and they've both worked as advertised (Boon and The Egg Pod) I changed them both to Triax weight mapping and saved them back to the Daz 3D library as native DS files to avoid any problems and because I changed all the materials to Iray mats. It was just easier for me to do it all at once ;). So far so good. Everything works like I'd expect.

I made the masks for the emissive lights from the blue bits on the texture maps. Real easy :). I also used the bumps as displacement where I could. The pose is a Genesis pose with a little finger fixing.

I actually thought i recalled Daz3D policy was that no products sold here, could be sold elsewhere?  So whereas a vendor may sell other products in other marketplaces, never will you see a Daz product offered somewhere else.  At least, thats what i thought.

So now that Darkseal is here, i dont see any of these same products anywhere else as once before they were.

    -MJ

That's a general policy, but there are notable exceptions like Dreamlight and any company that produces external software products like Reallusion or Stairgerman.

You got her to work by importing her from poser into daz? Is that how you did it?

I don't know any of the ins and outs aside from OPENING the character by clicking on the product/figure. No special technique or extra steps.

I'm not selecting IMPORT. I need to choose my words more carefully. Sorry about that.

Normal stuff. She opens up and sits in the window like any other product.

When I use Gen3 poses on the figure (don't really have any other kinds/version of pose sets), some parts/limbs take the pose and other parts do not.

So for poses, I'd have to make some adjustments.

Those of you using these products in Daz, is anyone using DS2 or DS3?  Are these all DS4+ users?

Oh, you know what, I didnt even think of applying poses. I was just trying the manual method. Oh well, maybe ill make a second attempt at some point in the future.

Hi MJ, just installed an old copy of 2.3 (I normally use 4.9) and after trying to work out how to use it again manged to load the pet slime & the Rift Walker in okay and pose them, I don't have DS2.3 compatable Mat files but they seem to work as well as they do in 4.9.

Got to go now, need to get to work.

It crashes my DAZ Studio also if I have Genesis 2 or Genesis in the scene first. If I add the armor pieces before I load up the genesis figure, DAZ doesn't crash for me. So, maybe give that a try. FWIW, I have no clue why it crashes Studio if genesis is in the scene prior to bringing in the armor pieces.

As to the text edit, you just copy the path from one of the prop pieces other than the front ab prop. Highlight the incorrect path in the other pp2 then paste.

The file you need to edit is the Front Ab.pp2 file located at Runtime<Libraries<props<Neckro Armor for V4...Front Ab.pp2. In the text editor I used, you just drag in the Front Ab.pp2 file and a second .pp2 file from that set I used Chest but really doesn't matter which one. You'll get each in a tab in the working space for each .pp2 file. You can click on the tabs to switch between files. First, visually find where error is in the Front Ab.pp2 file...it's near top. Once you've found that line of text, click on tab to view the other prop file. Highlight the text with the correct file path; then copy to copy the correct file path. (Note: It'll be in same location as the path error in Front Ab.pp2.) Next, click tab for Front Ab.pp2 file to switch to that file; highlight incorrect file path; then paste. Double check (visually compare that line in both files)  that the file path is correct...spaces and colons got copied correctly. Now, save the new Front Ab.pp2 file. Lastly, exchange your new FrontAb.pp2 file with the "bad" file in your props folder.

I would post the corrected pp2 file but not sure if that is allowable.

Had a bit more time this afternoon, not much but a bit, this morning was a very quick play before heading to work. I have found 1 slight issue with the egg pod in that the main open/close morph does not seem to work but the individual ones on each flap do so it can be worked around, also as I noted in an earlier post some of the meshes show tears in odd places (below the right eye of the pet slime) converting to SubD seems to solve the problems in the ones I have tried.

Hi All! I never knew there was a thread in the daz forums for my items. I see there are lots of questions about "if this item works in Daz".

Now, I do not work in Daz, I don't really know the UI, the rigging method, the general step by step of the daz process.... but what I do know is that anything I make in Poser that I keep Poser 6 compatable, WILL work in Daz. That being said, all items will need material tweeks (as mentioned earlier in the thead by someone). Everything will be a bit glossier than it should be. but, if you change the white to a grey for the spec value, everything should render right. I know it can be a pain, but if you do this for all materials andd then save your own material pose it should work ok. I have tried to make mat poses for any item that comes with multiple material versions (like a blue version or a red version for example).

Other items like Boon, for his head movement, try moving his neck instead, or if you were moving his neck, try to move his head...

Bioskin for nearme does not have the foot issue to my knowledge.... I should be able to be solved with falloff zones, but again... I don't Daz. Wish I did. I will probably be looking in the winter time for tutorials on Daz rigging to see the differences between the softwares and maybe make the move over to daz.

So.....TLDR: Poser 6 items "should" work fine in daz as long as you tweek the spec values of the materials (.... as long as it is not a pose injection file.) Poser 7 items have a different fall off zone type on them and might work ok. Poser 8 or above items either have weight maps on them OR have sub surface materials applied. In which case I cannot say they would work. But, if a poser items does not specifically say "weight mapped" or say "pose injection" or "pose inj" or "pz inj".... or say it requires a figure that is a poser only figure... then it will probably work just fine or with minimal effort.

ps yes, a lot of my items are "anitomically correct"   devil

  • AllenArtAllenArt Posts: 7,175

So far, everything I have of yours has worked just fine in DS (love the egg pod - now I need a facehugger...hehe). I made my own Iray shaders for them, which was pretty easy (but then I'm a shader nerd, so take that for what it is). So far tried the egg pod, Boon and Cave Troll.

    yes
