    I think I understand.  You get a real mess when you hit crickets with a cricket bat so you probably get a bigger mess when you hit fruit with a fruit bat.  Is that right? indecision

    Depends if you studied botanical or culinary sciences.  Botanically they are fruits, but in cuisine they are used more like vegetables (cf. tomatoes).

    ....long day today.  Got up early for the prupose of being a "concerned citizen".  Morning was rainy, bones and joints didn't like going out. but again it was for "civic duty's" sake.

    While in town (I rarely go to the "real" downtown), decided to check out one of the old neighbourhoods I used to live in. Totally changed. it once was  pretty affrodable but now pretty much all upper crust. My favourite coffee and bagel stop is no more (destroyed by a gas explosion last fall, the building was totally blown to splinters, and the one next to it pretty much gutted extremely fortunate that nobody was hurt).

    The corner is still vacant and the frame of the building next door still pretty much looks like the second picture even 6 months later.

    The other two coffee shops on the avenue are no longer there, both turned into hoity toity restaraunts.

    Headed a couple blocks east to NW 21st and there it seemed everything was still normal, save for one hole in the ground (across from an historic apartment building) which most likely will be more totally unaffordable flats or condos can't remember what used to be there. Here was where I found one of my other old standared coffee shops which I stopped in at, very lovely eccentric place.   Afterwards headed down to the old Blue Moon Pub where I was a regular denizen when I lived in that neighbourhood.  Sat by the old firepit (indoors) an quaffed a couple pints of my favourite ale (Hammerhead brewed by the pubs owners) before heading back to my 'hood.   Late afternoon early evening actually truned rather nice  with partly sunny skies and somewhat mild temps. Took the scenic ride on the streetcar across the new "transit only" bridge (only buses, streetcars, LRT trams and bicycles allowed, no cars) to make a connection with my bus back home.

    All in all an interesting and slightly adventurous day.

    Yes it is a controversy, iz black olives anyhow, and you can process them green which is another controversy. Also some arborists here say olive trees are a weed, no idea why. Ours is around 20 years old and grown from seed, is just starting to produce big time.

    As long as we're talking about destroyed buildings.  My local area has been experiencing many arson fires recently.  Most of them were abandoned houses in the city of Jamestown, NY but the last one was in the row of 100 year old brick buildings in the village of Falconer, NY (between me and Jamestown) that had businesses and apartments.  Three sections in the middle were completely destroyed and the connected businesses and apartments on either side of it were damaged also.  Clean up and removal had the main street through town closed for a week.  I didn't follow the stories very closely in the news and just figured it didn't concern me because it was mostly in the poorer, typically bad-newsier parts of Jamestown, but when the fire in Falconer happened on the main street I started paying attention although I didn't think it was arson at the time because the buildings were old and probably had electrical problems.

      After a month of these known arson fires they finally caught the kid (19) doing it.  Then to top things off, during Easter I was having Easter dinner with relatives and they started talking about the arson fires.  I innocently asked if they ever find out what caused the big fire in Falconer.  Everybody popped up and shouted "He did!"  And then step-family members added that they knew the kid! surprise  I think they even said that they were related somehow!  That's the problem with living in a small, generationally old area, you're related to everyone. frown

     Fires are bad enough, but arson fires are worse because you can't predict them, it's like terrorism.

    Black olives on Subway sandwich.  Mmmmm...,  Been ordering the same thing for years.   "Foot long, wheat, no toast, no cheese, turkey breast, lettuce, tomato, yellow peppers, a good handful of black olive slices, four jalapeño slices evenly distributed, one squirt of yellow mustard, to go".   Spicy, salty & moist but not soggy.  Keeps well in the refrigerator for a day or two.  I actually got complemented by the "sandwich engineer" the other day.  He said "great combo".  Ah, it's so nice when one's genius is acknowleged by experts. devil  Either that, or he says that to all the old farts with a memorized order. frown

    ...slept in late this morning as felt good not to put any weight on the legs after yesterday.  More of the same old same old "bleah" weather outside, may just stay in all week as that is the forecast until next Caturday.  Hopefully I will finally be over this bug by then.

    is a big machine they tow behind a truck, takes out the roots as well & leaves a huge pile of sawdust um don know what they are called tho :)

    ...even worse here as it isn't car parks but more overpriced upscale apartments and condos (that often don't have off street parking and when they do its gated) which often replace even perfectly good older homes and buildings.

    I'm pretty sure that will be what happens ot the house I'm currently in as the land value is probably worth more than the structure.and the lot is a big enough lot for a small (say 8 unit) apartment building (most likely at 1,600$ - 1,700$ per unit).
